Yeah, that's what I think, too. I mean, sure, he's been a Knight for 2 years... but, considering some of the long lived species that are in the galaxy and in the Order, it's still 'only' two years and I think he's just being super uptight and trying to imitate what he thinks is the ideal/model Jedi and coming across as stiff b/c of it.

I’m just an easy mark. Give me anything set in the SW universe and I’ll watch it. At the very least, it adds to the lore. Not every piece of SW content will connect with every single fan. It’s been like that since the 80s. This is no different.

I'm Team Rocha, to a degree. This show is intriguing but weak overall. It feels very kiddy-focused: aimed at young adults, and the acting is very CWi-ish.
Action is NOT GOOd. Obvious choreography.
    Prodution Design is meh.
Dialougue is bad. A bit modern.

This show (The Acolyte) so far is neither good or bad. It's average at best. I'm not excited to see the next episode like previous Star Wars shows. Hopefully it gets better, but unfortunately I don't think it will. The tone has been set with the 1st 2 episodes.

Loved both episodes. Simple as that.
Not saying its perfect and cant be criticized. And not everything is for everyone.
But some of the criticism isnt criticism at all. Its pure hate and absurdism. One random example. A certain person is claiming its the worst SW ever made because fire in space. Which yes, cant happen. But it happens in every ST film and series from the beginning. Its not like it all of a sudden happened. Its science fiction/fantasy. Being upset at that tiny thing is absurd in context.

    • @JGfromSpace.
      @JGfromSpace. 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

Those bad faith haters will try to find any reason to hate on the show. Complaining about fire is a lot easier than thoughtfully explaining why a particular story point isn’t working for you. Love what you love. They don’t represent all of fandom.

That's the most disingenuous answer I have ever heard. Just because you don't buy the implication that mae is a skilled hand to hand combatant you are not going to mention it in your broadcast, even though the show ( however clumsily) clearly implies this character trait. All that says is that you either have seen the four screener episodes and know more than you are letting on or you think we the audience are stupid, and don't realize that you are trying to string out the interest in this meteorically written show to get clicks .

  • @Vulcanerd
    @Vulcanerd 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

See, I push back against this notion of Jedi Order or Council not being a good idea.
That narrative has been getting pushed since the PT and through the TCW (and I love TCW) with the Jedi being arrogant or blinded by pride, etc, but... These same Jedi kept the peace (according to canon so far, but may get changed up b/c they seem to be pushing that narrative hard for the past couple of decades) for thousands upon thousands of years. Compare that to Palpatine's empire that lasted... what? 20 years? The Jedi are batting like .998 or something and were only deposed when maybe the most powerful Sith of all time, assisted by maybe the most powerful Jedi of all time schemed and schemed to bring about the end of the Republic and Order. So, let's not be so hasty on the Jedi way was bad. That's like the end of Minority Report where they had a system that worked like 99% of the time and b/c Max von Sydow figured out how to fool the system once, they decided to throw out the entire system... you know, going back to the system that would imprison innocent people, execute them by mistake far, far more frequently (don't come after me for my Minority Report take, people! Let's stick with SW for this round lol) than the system in Minority Report.
This says nothing of the key to the fall which was Qui-gon Jinn, right? The Jedi had a system in place that didn't allow kids who were too old to train b/c they would have developed attachments and strong feelings for people and things around them. They also sensed the anger and sorrow inside Anakin which they knew often leads to the Dark Side... and what happened? Despite all the safeguards and guidelines the Order had that had worked and been tested for thousands of generations, Qui-gon /insisted/ that the Jedi train him! Had he not insisted it, through his ego and hubris and pride and blind belief in the prophecy, Anakin would not have been trained and not been in a position to threaten and exterminate so many Jedi nor be Palpatine's right hand.
And it goes on! When Qui-gon died, it should have ended there! But, no! He makes Obi-wan /promise/ to train Anakin. So strongly was Qui-gon attached to Anakin, so much did he desire for Anakin to be trained that he made his padawan promise him to go against thousands of years of tried and tested Jedi guidelines and rules... so that Qui-gon could be right!
*Even Padawan Kenobi tells Qui-gon, "The boy is dangerous. They all sense it, why can't you?"* B/c it's not the Jedi that were clouded by their hubris! It was Qui-Gon. Had the Jedi followed through with their rules instead of letting Jinn have his way, none of this would have happened! Of course, then, what did Obi-Wan do?? He promises Qui-Gon, against the tried and true established rules of the Jedi... to train Anakin! After he warned him that the boy is dangerous and that everyone, but Qui-Gon sensed it! It's like I'm taking crazy pills here!!! 😆
So, I don't know why it's become popular to crap on the Jedi or talk about how the Jedi Order was arrogant or proud or whatever. Now, starting with the PT, they have leaned into it with stories so it's only served to reinforce it, but... I'm not a fan (minus TCW which is amazing).
Bring it Vogel! I have impugned your Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn!

One of the issues I do have with the show that I kinda touch on in my first comment is that the Jedi here don't seem any less arrogant, prideful or... callous? Than the ones we see in the PT era Jedi. If anything these Jedi may be even more so and that doesn't do much to distinguish the Jedi of this era as supposedly being more enlightened or wiser than the PT era and if that's the case... why did we bother to set this story 100 years before PT if, essentially, the Jedi of this era are just as flawed as the Jedi of the PT?
We already see them being bureaucratic... just like in the PT. We see them concerned with political fallouts of a Jedi Order that's perceived to have weaknesses or flaws... just like in the PT. We already see that there are people who think of them as elitist and callous... like in the PT (and TCW, too). We see them being blinded and making poor decisions b/c they are arrogant and/or prideful... just like in the PT.
Again, maybe I'll be wrong about these, maybe the series will still impress with all of this being true, but it feels like a fundamental approach to the SW franchise that seems foundational which immediately has me crossing my arms. I would love to be proven wrong, though.

Yord has an issue with fear and feeling insecure.
Sol takes him because 1 he is the opposite from Sol, so, in a way, he balances himself, and 2 he (Sol) enjoys the idea of teaching him: "don't let your fear influence your decisions" (my phrasing).
I wonder (maybe it's on the trailers) what is Sol's lightsaber's color! Because we haven't seen it. As Mike said, Yord likes to light his.
I agree with Mike about Qimir: he is waaay more than what he seems to be.

Yord summed up in a one sentence: Book smarts vs street smarts. For a High Republic equivalent, though not exactly the same, think Reath Silas. I think that's why Osha was pleasantly surprised that he was knighted. He's such a rule follower rather than someone who allows himself to live extemporaneously, which feels more like the Jedi of the time.
Agree on his tendency to get his lightsaber off too quickly, but seeing someone other than Cal Kestis and the Fourth Sister use their lightsaber as a flashlight in caves warmed my heart.

I liked the acting, the characters, the sfx and most things so far. Like others and you guys have mentioned, it's not perfect and it's got some holes, but my apprehension has more to do with the general direction of SW post OT and starting with PT and less to do with the specifics of this show (though I do have those, too)?
(I know I've said this in a bunch of other places including Rocha's reaction videos)
Which is that I thought we were going to get a story about the Jedi (and whatever threats) during peak Jedi era of the High Republic. What we seem to be getting is another "Jedi get the wool pulled over their eyes / The Jedi are brought low, yet again, b/c of their arrogance or hubris" story. We already got that with the PT and I thought we were going to get wiser, more enlightened Jedi who are basically paragons of virtue, but have to navigate an imperfect world full of people who aren't like them, don't share their ideals or their perspectives and have to deal with the suffering and problems that do exist in the world (as well as any dark forces operating behind the scenes). This world and these Jedi don't feel that much different than the PT era Jedi. If anything, they may feel even more callous, elitist, bureaucratic and prideful.
And I have a mini-hypothesis as to why.
It feels like, since the OT, they've slowly backed away from the original vision(tm) of the idyllic/ideal Jedi and Old/High Republic for maybe one of two reasons. First, it's too hard to write virtuous, forthright characters who are pretty nearly flawless, but not perfect. At best, people may see them as boring, at worst, they will come across as super pretentious and sanctimonious. Second, especially now, we like our characters to be flawed, even broken. We're in a age where we love dark and gritty and morally compromised or 'dark' characters. It's why we prefer Batman over Superman. It's why GOT and WD were super popular at least early on. It's why people liked the Daredevil series as well as Punisher. It's why people are enjoying shows like The Boys and HotD. And I wholeheartedly admit I love me my edgelord, angsty emo shows, but... I would also love to see the opposite.
And, ok, so what if it's hard to write for near perfect characters who are full of wisdom, intelligence and compassion. That's what good writing should be able to do. Make compelling stories even in a world or people that seem idyllic b/c the world isn't perfect even if it seems that way or is close. It's also the reason why I like TOS and TNG. They were able to write compelling stories and characters even as human and galactic societies (or at least the Federation) were near utopian. Maybe it just takes more work or is harder, but that shouldn't be an excuse not to do it. It's almost cowardly or lazier to fall back on broken characters/world b/c it's easier.
This isn't a unique thing to this show, it feels more like a general trend starting with the PT where they really go into the pride, arrogance and hubris of the Jedi that culminates in Palpatine being able to bring down the Old Republic and eliminate (most of the) Jedi and I would like to see a fresh, new different take that explores the supposed Jedi that were first described by the Alec Guinness Kenobi.

I'm enjoying this series more than I thought I would. The fact that it doesn't look like "100 years ago" is not bothering me so much, although I still stand by it: it doesn't.
But yeah, it's very good up until now. I'm with Mike, but without having read any books, so, good, right?
If it ends strong, this will be my #2 series after Andor. Mandalorian season 1 was good, season 2 was ok, but I lost interest and haven't seen season 3. Boba Fett was lame. Ahsoka was meh. I'm hoping this will be #2, if it goes well, because I find it difficult that it will be better than Andor.
Nice to follow your shows, Geek Buddies! 😄
    Cheers from Rio, Brazil!

I disagree from John that Sol is too much of a good heart. And I disagree from Mike that Qimir shouldn't have been arrested: he's an accomplice, and they have his confession. They also know that he is in the place of the former apothecary, and I missed the investigation of that: Qimir seems to have gotten rid of the guy, by his talk with Mae.

Jecki asking Sol if she can speak feels more like her slyly making fun of being prim and proper like Yord than her being a stick in the mud. She seems to float in between Yord's end of things and Sol's end of things. I'm curious to see more of how she develops.
It doesn't feel like they're trying to make it seem like the women are better than Yord. It just feels like Jecki is more open to the improv of being out in the field than the textbook.

Yord is dispatched by the Jedi Order to apprehend Osha because she meets the description of Master Indara's killer.
In the story dialogue, it is said that Indara objected to Osha's Jedi training.
However, in the opening sequence of Ep1, Indara does not recognize Osha.
