I heard one reviewer call it "literal ear sex" which is a graphic, albeit accurate statement as to how outstanding it is. Best video game soundtrack in my opinion.
It's an absolute dream when it comes to studying. The soundtrack is so rich and it's nearly impossible not to picture the lush landscapes when listening to it.
I have the soundtracks literally on my Itunes (at least the first two, the third games' soundtrack is very hard to find, but if I do find the complete soundtrack I will add it to my Itunes Library too). Still love listening to them especially tracks like "Summer Forest", "Wizards' Peak.", "Dark Hollow" etc.
I still have that damned pelican's voice burned into my brain! *CRASH!!* ..."Trouble with the Trolley, eh?" *CRASH!!* ..."Trouble with the Trolley, eh?"
Haha! My mother is more onto the Crash Bandicoot side of things. Would be wicked! I wouldn't even mind having insomniac games company back to do it or even make new Spyro games like we used to see them!
My parents "lost" my ps1 and spyro during the move this was when ps2 came out and i was playing the newer versions. I'm assuming as I was young they thought I would never use it again, now I yearn for it :(
I don't care what anyone says. Skylanders is not a Spyro game.. Spyro was relegated to being nothing but a side character. A ploy to sell the game.. Very sad for a 90s icon.
Spyro was my early childhood, Ratchet and Clank was my later childhood which led to early adult hood because they never stopped making great games and I never stopped playing them. Thank you Insomniac for all that you do.
Ratchet and clank was my favorite game series when I was a teenager. Spyro was neck and neck with crash bandicoot. I cant honestly say which one is the better series through the first 3 games
Spyro was my childhood! It was my first game and I have many fond memories of playing the original trilogy. It's one of my favorite games to this day. :D
+A Banana That's cause the 90's alone makes it a less awesome year but when it's compared to a decade much newer, it makes the 90's look better. Comparison plays a big role when it comes to how we feel about the old days!
Man, I love Spyro but I'm really disappointed and in disbelief that the creator of Spyro himself would be happy with the direction in which our loveable purple dragon is heading with Skylander's. He shouldn't be canon, he shouldn't be canon at all and it breaks my little fangirl heart. D: Of course, who am I to say things like this considering I have no voice besides the fan voice about it, but it's heart breaking.
Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage was my first-ever video game, and I still love the series. The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon currently ranks as my favorite video game of all-time, and I would love to see the Legend Trilogy get remade like the original trilogy.
And they failed to mention an important Spyro fact such as the differences between the original release of Spyro 3 and its updated Greatest Hits version which had bug fixes, restored a missing cut scene and updated the soundtrack since the original release was sorta rushed the entire soundtrack wasn't completed by the initial release but finally included in the greatest hits release when the soundtrack was fully finished. This is why the original version many levels shared songs from other levels in the game but the greatest hits version every level has its own unique theme as intended. Sadly the digital PSN release of Spyro 3 you can find now is based on the inferior original release version missing out the improvements from the greatest hits version. This would mean that Spyro 3 is probably one of the rare few Playstation games that the greatest hits version should be considered collectible but most people don't realize this as many collectors always like to go for an all black label collection not doing their research that some games did have updated greatest hits releases afterwards which sounds like something to consider looking into for a more complete collection.
TheLiquidusnake oh, I did hear about that a few times. Kind of a shame too cause some of the songs that were left out of the orignal version are some of my favorites, Evening Lake especially. Luckily, I actually had the greatest hits version ever since I was a kid and it was how I always played the Spyro games. Tho sadly, I'm not sure if it's just a problem with my discs since I've had them for over 17 years and they are a bit scratched up, but the audio for the cutscenes tend to glitch out and repeat lines or would just cut out all together. It's mostly notable in Ripto's Rage and usually happens with long cutscenes. Kind of sucks whenever I replayed the games and I would have to resort to watching a youtube video for the whole cutscene whenever it glitches out. Especially since how much they said a Greatest Hits set goes for nowadays. Aw well, at least the games themselves still play perfectly fine, it's just the cutscenes that have a problem.
@PyroDanTheManiac Original version of Evening Lake as in the black label? From what I know in the black label release Evening Lake had the same song that was used in Sunrise Spring and I remember when I used to initially rent the black label version a few times I got used to that version then when I got the greatest hits version as a christmas present I remember thinking why was my copy different as I noticed the updated soundtrack especially when I entered Evening Lake and it played a completely different song than what I heard before. Now the weird thing about some scratched PS1 games is that I've also had this issue with Spyro 2 which is completely playable and some cutscenes did have audio issues when i played the discs on PS3 but when I went back to my PS1 and PS2 console the same disc played fine with no issues which made me think maybe the PS3 reads a little too much into the scratches with its more advanced lense? I'm not sure about that last part but that seems to be my case with some PS1 discs. These days I try to play it safe by rebuying some of my more favorite PS1 games digitally on the PSN store. Knowing those CDs eventually gain more scratches overtime the more I play them I try to preserve them now by still holding onto my original copies of Crash, Spyro, Metal Gear Solid and others but when I feel the need to play them I won't be using the physical copies I'll instead go with the downloaded PSOne classics games I have saved in my PS3 (while this is great for Spyro 1 and 2, I sadly can't do the same with Spyro 3 after already mentioning I have a copy of the updated greatest hits version however PSN only has a digital copy based on the original black label so I'm gonna have to deal with that by other means).
TheLiquidusnake I never said I played or owned any of the orignal copies. The Greatest Hits versions were always the ones I played. I just remember reading a comment on a video of Evening Lake's theme that said the original version used the Sunrise Springs theme. Oh, the games were giving me those problems since I was playing them on my PS3, so I guess that explains it. I do own a PS2, but weirdly enough, I never owned a PS1, so I always played the Spyro games on my PS2 when I was a kid, so unfortnately I never had any way to save data whenever I played them on my PS2. Guess that means if I want a copy of Spyro 2 that runs perfectly, I'd have to buy the PSN version. Aw well
You guys didn't even touch on "The Legend of Spyro" trilogy which featured characters like Ignitus and Cynder. Ignitus was voiced by freakin' Gary Oldman for God's sake. It was a darker grittier Spyro that had a more plot driven narrative and solidified the multiple breath weapon system. Such a great series.
Will Richard I still like the Spyro 1 voice, sure it sounds kind of silly and childish but i kind of like it because of that, it's like Spyro was still a naive little kid in Spyro 1 and then in 2 and 3 he was a teen and more mature and laid back, but yes indeed Tom Kenny is the 1 and only true voice for older Spyro, the ones after might have done a good job but after the 1st 3 the series just feels too different and not like Spyro anymore.
Man, I used to play it as a kid on my PSP😂 But it wasn't the first one, I remember there was an level in a place that resembled heaven that I've never found in on a youtube gameplay though :'v

All of the kudos to Insomniac AND Toys for Bob. Old and new versions of 1 2 and 3 are simply amazing, from the gameplay, to the visuals, to the characters, and especially the music. All of the thank yous to Leaderboard for this video, I actually learned quite a lot about our favorite purple dragon!

Spyro was actually what caused me to want a PlayStation over 20 years ago. I still have my original PS and all 3 of the Insomniac games. I truly hope they revive the series with another game (hopefully) made by Insomniac. Ripto was my favorite. I know I spent Hours just gliding around in the beautiful scenery in the later games.
Nothing in this world would please me more than to see an official spyro remaster. Take what you did with crash and do it to spryo. They thought crash sold?
I played Spyro a lot in my childhood. It was, and is a great game. I remember falling in love with the home worlds in Sypro 2. To this day, I still think Autumn Plains is too beautiful to not be real.
I missed Spyro so much because a certain SOMEONE broke my PS1 controller so we got rid of the play station all together. (Because, apparently, controllers costed even more than the console itself.) Spyro was the first video game I ever played :)
WOOAHH EXCUSE ME!?? 12:30 Tom Kenny was NOT the voice of Samurai Jack, may have did additional voices but the two main characters was Jack, voiced by the great Phil LaMarr, and Aku, voiced by the amazing great and late Mako. Rip Mako.
I will always love the original 3 Spyro games. Dawn of the Dragon was really good too. I hope they bring back Spyro to both consoles. It would be amazing.
Number 108, there is actually a second make of Spyro: Year of the Dragon. However with that version, they introduced new music. For example, the original third game had the Sunrise Spring music play for Evening Lake, and the Sorceress battle in Midnight Mountain. In the second make, said levels got their own unique music track.
Comodin Cam Late reply to an old comment, however i believe they were meaning that they shared 'a' voice actor between the Crash and Spyro, Carlos did the voice for Crash in some of the most infamously bad trailers for Crash Bandicoot 2
Also late reply but Jess Harnell voiced Crash consistently from Tag Team Racing onwards, and voiced Spyro in A Hero's Tail. Also Moneybags wasn't in Skylanders, but there is a character called Auric meant as an allusion to Moneybags.
so interesting to hear how the development team made decisions. going with purple for Spyro was so dang clever. As was making him a young dragon to appeal to kids.
Spyro is TRULY and underrated game. I’ve played it again and again since I first got it on the PS1. I just LOVE it! I do prefer Ripto’s Rage over the first game though.
The hardest minigame in Gateway to Glimmer isn't the one on Skelos Badlands, it's the one in Magma Cone where you've got to catch the crystals. The second part of that is a pain.
I always had a feeling Spyro adjusted the difficulty based on how well you played! Like sometimes I was like, damn, the better I play the harder it gets, and then I noticed, because Spike kills me like 10 times before I beat him, when I keep dying, suddenly it's different, like he shoots less fire balls at you and you don't have to hit him as many times to get the blue and red powerup thingies.
Nice video man. Eternal Night was my personal favorite. I appreciated the dark tone and story as much as the insane difficulty curve. The characterization was also spot on in my opinion. Only really negative I have about it i that a lot of assets were reused and I didn't feel as though the final boss had enough buildup.
As a die hard trilogy fan. I can look at Skylanders and say, the only thing changed is Spyro's Look. That is all. Why? Looking at his personality from back then and now, aside from some episodes in the Netflix series of him having a big ego. It still is Spyro. If anything, he is way different in the Legend of Series. Why doesn't anyone complain about that but go full force on Skylanders? And with Skylanders, there are several characters that have great designs and charm. Not all but some. I can honestly say someone like Kaos has more villain charm than Gnasty. But Kaos isn't no Ripto or Sorceress. As for a return to classic. Yes. It is more possible than ever since Crash came back in such a big way. Spyro can do the same with his classic self. The actors are still around, and yes the original crew of Insomniac is willing to head back to the purple dragon. This day in age where we see things coming back like Samurai Jack. (Rhyme intended.) Spyro can charge back into our nostalgic hearts. And fire them up for another adventure.
TheOctober Scarf Believe me, most fans DID complain about LoS Spyro back then but some accepted the mature setting, story and characters introduced regardless of the change. But when Skylanders came, they didn't accept that change. Like, what? They accept the Legend of Spyro but not Skylanders all because of a character design. I like Skylanders Spyro too, played as him in the games, saw his cutscenes in Skylanders Imaginators and saw how acts very similar to classic Spyro in Skylanders Academy. If there were Spyro remasters, I'd definitely buy it. XD
TheOctober Scarf i have yet to see the skylanders spyro cuz the weird seirra or legend of spyro games made him like a generic hero... And sparx being some odd buff bug.. *shudders* There are fans of the legends game but i just couldnt get into it. I did play that one spyro a hero's tail where it was like a soft reboot but with all the familar characters of the past games but different.
Brian Guillemette Complaining is a rather loose term to what we where actually doing. And it's not like we're hindering the progress of your life by 'complaining' about how it ruined Spyro. (which it did)
absolutely awesome video! thoroughly enjoyed this. I knew some of these, and some of these genuinely shocked me. good narration and fun to watch! nicely done dude!
My first EVER game was A Hero's Tail and loved that game so much as a kid. Only properly began playing the originals a couple of years ago and I now love them far more.
*raises hand proudly* While I love collectathon games and Spyro 1 to 3 were the first Spyro games I played, the legend trilogy is just incredibly wonderful! It sure has it's flaws and it's not the braggy Spyro we know from the first games, but story and emotions fit him really well too!
Dawn of the Dragon remains my top game of all-time, and Elijah Wood my top Spyro (along with Christina Ricci my favorite Cynder, Mark Hamill my favorite Malefor, Wayne Brady my favorite Sparx, and you just can't go wrong with Gary Oldman).
I still prefer the original trilogy, but I grew up with Dawn of the Dragon and loved infinitely flying through the different worlds. I respect it as a reboot from the original.
Great video. One small little fact I might add is that moneybags was actually in Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure under the name Auric. He gave the player tons of gems after the main story was completed.
Spyro's pretty awesome, although I keep flipping through and watching and/or playing with stuff (games, TH-cam, etc.) with Spyro, Yoshi, and/or Tails in it
A Hero’s Tail and the Wii version of The Eternal Night are my favorite Spyro games. And as of now, an HD remake of the original Spyro trilogy is out now, called Spyro Reignited Trilogy. Spyro The Dragon, Spyro 2: Ripto’s Rage, and Spyro: Year Of The Dragon on one disc.
TheMajesticMilotic the second one was broken and everything was poorly implemented in it if not completely broken for whatever reason? The third one was fun but it also had some problems even though it was still enjoyable.
RealShield101 He brings it up often in this list as well, just kind of, well, ignoring the fact that they were quite different. But I loved those games. Minus almost every time Sparx opened his f***ing mouth, but it at least ended up making Cynder more lovable. As for favorites, it is literally same order they released- the first is my least favorite. It is good, but the difficulty just kinda comes and goes, the breathes were introduced in situations where they were useless, making it difficult to start using them (I.E Ice breath is brought up against enemies that can't even be frozen. Why?), and the final level kinda began to drag on with waves of enemies not hard, just in large numbers with many waves. Also Cynder is a joke once you just try jumping. She only has one attack that can hit you in the air and even then you'd have to be pretty unlucky to get hit by it. Eternal night was _really f***ing hard_ at the beginning of the game, but once you began getting creative with the breaths and figuring out Dragon time, it got really fun, plus the best way to fight also just so happens to look cool. Dawn of the dragon- I LOVE IT. Now that Cynder is around Sparx doesn't have half the dialogue anymore, which is awesome, the magic shackle ends up used for more than just a cheap explanation as to why the characters are together, making it to gameplay in creative ways. YOU CAN FLY WHENEVER YOU WANT. Cynder is fun to play as with her own unique powers YOU CAN FLY WHENEVER YOU WANT Each level is open and utilizes various unqiue scenarios, whether you are exploring a beautiful valley and ancient ruins or climbing around a monster the size of a literal mountain or frantically fighting off a city's invaders keeoing the only catapult functional while also fighting off approaching siege weapons and enemies, and... YOU CAN FLY WHENEVER YOU WANT. Did I mention you can fly? Because there is that too.

Can we talk about how amazing the soundtrack is for the original three games? Stewart Copeland really hit it out of the park.
I heard one reviewer call it "literal ear sex" which is a graphic, albeit accurate statement as to how outstanding it is. Best video game soundtrack in my opinion.
I listen to it occasionally from time to time and used to use it as background music while I studied.

Yeah and I’m excited for the New Spyro game coming next year. (Enter the Dragonfly remake or not)

The Leaderboard mine personally was the legend of Spyro series
The Leaderboard 107 Facts about The Legend of Spyro
Ripto's Rampage for me.
Hell yeah to that, but I have a sneaking suspicion that it's on its way
Spyro Year of the Dragon Hands down is the best of the original trilogy, per my opinion
I have all three original Spyro games. I'm NEVER giving them up!
How does it make you feel the original three games are being remade on PS4? :D
And on Xbox One! 😁
*When you realise he didn't talk about the Legend Series*
What
He somewhat did, the movie was actually meant to go with the legend series instead of the original.
Nothing in this world would please me more than to see an official spyro remaster. Take what you did with crash and do it to spryo. They thought crash sold?
i bet youre excited
Watching this after the Reignited Trilogy was released.
Okay one thing on my mind
SKYLANDERS...ISNT... A SPYRO GAME *TRIGGERED*
Classic Spyro and Legend Of Spyro triology will always be the best games.
(Because, apparently, controllers costed even more than the console itself.)
Spyro was the first video game I ever played :)
WOOAHH EXCUSE ME!?? 12:30 Tom Kenny was NOT the voice of Samurai Jack, may have did additional voices but the two main characters was Jack, voiced by the great Phil LaMarr, and Aku, voiced by the amazing great and late Mako. Rip Mako.
I grew up with The Legond of Spyro:A New Begining
I loved how each enemy had its own name
Crash and Spyro were my childhood!
This video simultaneously changed my life and further fueled my wish that we could return to the simpler days. Thank you, sir.
I like old spyro it was hella better ❤ just like crash bandicoot❤
This game was part of my childhood and it
always will be, I can't remember the amount of times I played this game when I was a kid.
11:48 Crash and Spyro don't share the same voice actor... DYKG also got this wrong, Brendan O'Brien did the voice in the original Crash games.
Comodin Cam also, moneybags was in skylanders.
Also Moneybags wasn't in Skylanders, but there is a character called Auric meant as an allusion to Moneybags.
moneybags IS skylanders :P
Good one.
Do you guys actually not know that The Legend of Spyro is a separate game series that exists, and has the story that you described in fact 67?
so interesting to hear how the development team made decisions. going with purple for Spyro was so dang clever. As was making him a young dragon to appeal to kids.
In fact 36, you say us kids probably think it's outdated. But, honestly, it's still a work of art. I love how it looks!
If Crash can get a Remaster, no reason Spyro shouldn't
Spyro is TRULY and underrated game. I’ve played it again and again since I first got it on the PS1. I just LOVE it! I do prefer Ripto’s Rage over the first game though.
My favorite game series! I already knew all this, but exposure is always good
Also one of my favorites. I only wish it was available on the Vita in North America.
Spyro 2 was my jam. I love the entire series so much and I hope they reboot it, or do some sort of remaster of the original games.
108: The original trilogy is being remade on PS4!
Favorite was Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage.
I liked too many of the levels to pick one.
The Spyro trilogy is just art. Such a wonderful game on my childhood. ^^
Skylanders isn't for me a real Spyro game.
I have to say that the First Spyro game will always be my absolute favorite of all time.
Mine too 😊
Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage and Spyro 3: Year of the Dragon were the best games!
Omg I'm a HUGE fan of Spyro! Especially the classics and sometimes TLoS series! He's a part of my childhood that I loved more than most things.
The hardest minigame in Gateway to Glimmer isn't the one on Skelos Badlands, it's the one in Magma Cone where you've got to catch the crystals. The second part of that is a pain.
I think both of those minigames are hard as hell. I could never beat either of them lol
Sean O'Reilly yes but those damn eggs getting eaten was sooooo hard!!!
And now were getting an official Spyro Trilogy remaster
*shudders*
There are fans of the legends game but i just couldnt get into it. I did play that one spyro a hero's tail where it was like a soft reboot but with all the familar characters of the past games but different.
TheOctober Scarf They don't hate how Spyro looks in Skylanders, they hate what Skylanders did to Spyro as a franchise.
can you guy all stop complaining it did not ruin spyro
Brian Guillemette Complaining is a rather loose term to what we where actually doing. And it's not like we're hindering the progress of your life by 'complaining' about how it ruined Spyro. (which it did)
absolutely awesome video! thoroughly enjoyed this. I knew some of these, and some of these genuinely shocked me. good narration and fun to watch! nicely done dude!
The game makers are open to re-visiting Spyro the Dragon and creating another spyro game..... And that is exactly what they did! Remakes for life
This game was my childhood. So hyped for the remaster!
If Crash Team Racing and the Spyro Trilogy gets remade, I'm gonna die of happiness
The spyro games did get a trilogy its out
Same for crash team racing
@RABIN MIGUEL Are you dead
#79 The hardest mini-game was the caveman challenge....
*"TROUBLE WITH THE TROLLY, EH?"*
Woah, I have the collector's edition! It's really that rare?!
Thanks for finally doing the greatest 3D platformer of the 5th gen.
Who's here watching after spyro reignited trilogy has been released
RTP Media
Just got the game today
I'm A Kid And I Think Spyro Is A Fascinating Game.
It's kinda sad that he didn't mention The Legend of Spyro trilogy at all. Those games were my childhood...
iiDrBubbles Draws He did mention them, just not as a separate trilogy
I feel really sad for you
My first EVER game was A Hero's Tail and loved that game so much as a kid. Only properly began playing the originals a couple of years ago and I now love them far more.
DERMATOLOGISTS HATE HIM.
144-year-old dragon still looks 12.
This is an amazing video! Great job guys!
raise your hand if you like the ''the legend of spyro'' trilogy the most
*slowly raises hand*
n-no? just me?
o-okay...
The legend of Spyro has a place in my heart, but it could never out shine the original. My cousin and I enjoyed playing it together.
*raises hand proudly*
While I love collectathon games and Spyro 1 to 3 were the first Spyro games I played, the legend trilogy is just incredibly wonderful!
This was so cool to watch. I love this trilogy so much. Thanks :3
I really hope they do a spyro remake. A GOOD spyro remake
Great video. One small little fact I might add is that moneybags was actually in Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure under the name Auric. He gave the player tons of gems after the main story was completed.
Can you do Croc: Legend of the Gobbos? It's a playstation original
raelyn Luck low key underrated
There is also Croc 2 😉
Number 9: Imagining is all we can do at this point...
FRIGGEN 2 MORE DAYS! So hyped to replay this classic!
they better make a remake of these Spyro games for the ps4 they better .
Spyro's pretty awesome, although I keep flipping through and watching and/or playing with stuff (games, TH-cam, etc.) with Spyro, Yoshi, and/or Tails in it
Watching this while playing Reignited im so happy
Currently watching this while playing it on Nintendo Switch. I feel like a little kid, I'm replaying my favorite childhood games. ❤
God I miss spyro and don't even talk about the skylanders version that's a totally different character
What about the legend of spyro games?
RealShield101. I liked the first one second one was eh third was ugg
Cynder is fun to play as with her own unique powers
YOU CAN FLY WHENEVER YOU WANT
Each level is open and utilizes various unqiue scenarios, whether you are exploring a beautiful valley and ancient ruins or climbing around a monster the size of a literal mountain or frantically fighting off a city's invaders keeoing the only catapult functional while also fighting off approaching siege weapons and enemies, and...
YOU CAN FLY WHENEVER YOU WANT.
Did I mention you can fly? Because there is that too.
God I loved Spyro! It's a shame he doesn't have his own game anymore. Best Dragon Ever!
Good thing The Reignited Trilogy is coming, Am I right?
Watching this after I’ve almost finished the remake and played so many of the other Spyro games, and I can say it’s by far my favorite set of games
We need a new Spyro after the classic trilogy. May Skylanders be cast into a pit of fire.
My childhood!! If they remastered it I would HAVE to get a PlayStation!!!
