    Trying with the latest version, and unfortunately the backspace key won't do just one step back anymore, it deletes the whole chain of points.

      Hold down your left mouse button on the Line (Avatar) tool and the Flatten tool will appear in the dropdown. Then, select the Flatten tool.

    Overall this is a great tutorial and great tutorial series. Thank you for producing it!
    I do think that mentioning issues around the Flattening tool could improve it for me and others who have commented below (I'm sure there are others who have not been vocal). I diverged very slightly in terms of the design of the shirt, and when it came time to try to flatten the shirt sleeve on the back side of the avatar, I received an error about not being able to flatten. It wasn't clear why this was happening, but it seemed to have something to do with how I had configured various segments by toggling "Flatten as straight line", because I was able to get it to flatten finally by messing about with those.
    I think the video would be improved by explaining the logic of how Flattening works, why it might fail (and that it might), and what Flatten as a Straight Line actually does and what difference that makes to the process.
    In general, I think just very lightly explaining some of the more nuanced things about the program that we end up using in the series would improve it. In general I think it's great, but sometimes we end up with a mention or usage of some option without explaining what it actually is or does, and I would learn more quickly if I understood some of these things.
    Thanks again for producing the series (and the application). Overall I think the series is great and look forward to the rest of it.

    Can we mirror line avatar?

    • @Marvelousdesigner
      @Marvelousdesigner  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      In short no, the symmetrical patterning tools can only be used to the 2D window on an existing polygon/ pattern. Once your patterns are created (flattened), you can use the symmetrical patterning tools then.

    I'm not too fond of the Avatar line drawing tool. I will get so far and something won't work right. LOL Restarted three times already. I'm determined to get it working for me because I want to proceed going through the tutorials on your site one by one before tackling my own garments. I've learned how to move the points after creating the lines on the avatar with line edit (Avatar) tool. When I selected each part that turns yellow on the avatar and pressing enter, I got an error about some lines didn't cut right. So, back to the drawing board. I love this program. I wish they will improve on this tool simplifying it. If you accidentally double-clicking while rotating the avatar, your line will disappear.

      discord.com/invite/HAh568h Here is a link to our official discord. There you can get a more indepth discussion and share pictures to help problem solve. (likely your avatar is not at the center of the grid, which can be caused by its original location when you exported from a different program)

    I'm struggling with this in version 10. I'm making gloves and the hands don't appear on the 2d side, I don't know if that makes a difference. I keep getting the error message, some parts of the pattern could not be simulated.

      likely it is due to the complexity of the avatar topology that you are trying to flatten. I would recommend making more pattern pieces that you are trying to unfold. likely the mesh around the nail (if using the base avatar) is whats causing it (look at the mesh view and you can see) which you may likely need to work around and take into consideration. If using this tool does not work: trace a glove pattern from the internet and adjust it to fit your avatar.

    "Failed to flatten some patterns? What to do when this happens, and why does it happen?

    • @Marvelousdesigner
      @Marvelousdesigner  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      it's often that the geometry on the obj/avatar is too complex within the area you are trying to flatten; so add internal lines to make darts, or make the area smaller/ add more pattern pieces

    Greetings...!!
    Very nice feature. Made whole lot of things simpler. Can I ask you one thing - After you flatten and make all the necessary shapes how do you get rid of the lines? Thank you.

    • @Marvelousdesigner
      @Marvelousdesigner  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      if you mean the lines on the avatar - you can use the Edit 3D line tool >Right click>delete

    • @salilkumars449
      @salilkumars449 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      After you merge two patterns in the 2D window, in the resulting shape there are lines of the earlier shape's border visible, how to get rid of that?

    • @salilkumars449
      @salilkumars449 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Got the workaround ...! Select the lines with trace tool and delete thats it, if any one find this helpful.

    • @Marvelousdesigner
      @Marvelousdesigner  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If this is for your screen making icons small while working in the software: that sounds like the classic "Microsoft 4k screen magnification" issue. which you can follow instructions online from Microsoft to fix using the quoted phrase to look up
