When STRIPPING for YouTube Views Goes Horribly Wrong. 1966 C10 Primer Removal

  • Hey, our 1966 Chevy C10 Truck project looks like Elmo threw up all over it. Let's try to remove the gunky old red primer with lacquer thinner and a toothbrush. Hope you all enjoy having your valuable time wasted because this one is a real hum-dinger. Also, a millennial tries to start old stovebolt 6 cylinder engines (and does it wrong). Lastly, we head to the auto parts store to check in with F-15 fighter pilot Dr. Longbottom.

I can’t tell you how many hours I’ve sat and watched paint dry and thought I was at the pinnacle of paint related past times , until you opened my eyes to a whole new world. Watching others remove dried paint- that’s where the real action is !!

Thanks for setting me straight on the starting procedure on these trucks. I also have been doing it wrong for over half a century. I didn't realize the importance of washing down the cylinder walls with gas to remove any residual oil before cold starting. I also want to apologize for letting my patreon stop. I just wander through life. All my bank cards expired and I need to update it. Joseph and Mary send their love. Thank you for your time.

I think this made a big improvement! To me, the truck looks at LEAST 67% better. Also, as someone who's worked in the car business for a long time, parts in particular, I can identify with the parts guy at the unnamed auto parts emporium. I have dealt with many, MANY Dr. Longbottoms! They are a scourge upon humanity.

Every day I drove my 64 F100 past five fully restored vehicles they're afraid to drive!😊 Sort of a resto- mod- survivor. The original paint is a buff beige color that one of the camouflage colors matches almost perfect. The rust repair almost disappears. I'm one of the horrible hacks you talk about but thanks to you and Fitzee, I'm just a hack!😊 Can't wait to see the rusty panel repairs.

(from 5 minutes in) Your present exercise makes me wonder why that truck was shot in primer: it has cracked Bondo, rust, and ill-conceived patches beneath - the which it certainly didn't hide or prevent from becoming worse. Perhaps the previous owner should have asked for 'One Auto-body Technician, please?'

Dr. Longbottom needs to have a cameo every now and then or his own segment of the show.
Man, you are twisted. My kinda folks.
There used to be an old fella next door, years ago (now I'M the old fella, sigh).
    He had a Dodge Aries.
His start routine was to pump it a few times and when it fired off he would hold it to the floor until the heater started blowing warm air. The rev limiter on those was the valve springs.
He did that for years and that amazing little K car outlasted him
Poor K car. Probably one of the few that actually took a beating and kept working.
    Stay well, sir.

I've been in the auto parts business for over 30 yrs... I would welcome Dr. Longbottom with open arms--he has more on the ball than most of the people who come in the font door of my business!😲

I hear ya. I worked with the public in the autobody world for 10+ years then in IT for 35, ending up as an instructor at a college. Compared to some of the folks I've seen... Dr. Longbottom would probably offer no surprises to me. ;)
Now, that Kyle guy on the other hand...

Hahaha that story cracked me up. I used to work with an old guy like that. He had a "high idle broomstick" that got wedged between the seat and gas pedal of his Ltd...except he was hard of hearing, so his version of a high idle was actually closer to redline.

I'm a boomer and recall that blue as being a much in demand item from CTC. I think it may have come in gallons (pre metric unit of liquid volume), I am positive in came in spray bombs (precusor to todays rattle can). As for your cat chewing your power cord, ours do it as well. I think it all starts in the Chinese factories where they treat the cords with a mixture of mouse and catnip. Ingenious if you think about it, the cats become captains of industry assuring a never ending demand for power cords. Your '66 will be a sweet ride when finished. For a six banger it has an awesome rumble, no doubt due to the absence of a catalytic converter.

Another great video. I would spray it with flat clear to preserve the patina but it's not mine . Keep those videos coming.
