Because of this interview, I just checked out Spyglass Blue. Although I was aware of the name, I don’t recall hearing the music. It’s great! I love the Bowie and Peter Murphy feel. I’ve been recently getting into “Dark Wave” too. When I was a kid, moody synth-pop bands like The Motels, Naked Eyes and Berlin were on the radio. Call me nostalgic, I have always liked that stuff!
This was the best interview so far! Total “fly on the wall” stuff. Allan kept it real. Whether the cocktail drinks helped or not… 😄 No ass kissing or walking on eggshells.
I saw Scaterd-Few at Dexel University in Philly back in the late 90's. I saw Spyglass at C-stone, probably in the late 90's. I saw Allen playing solo acoustic out of the back of a U-Haul at C-Stone in the 90s. I was at the Dighayzoose show at C-Stone in the 90s when Allen came out and did a few SF songs.
Great interview. I actually suggested you interview Allan on the comments of the first Jimmy Brown interview. Scaterd Few were huge for me growing up. My oldest son’s middle name is actually Aguirre. I met and prayed with Allan years later at a Men With Trees Walking show. Today, I don’t agree with him on a lot of stuff, especially politics. That being said, he will always be special to me though. Simon, keep doing what you do sir.
Hello again, Kevin Just FTR: I hold to the same political views today that I held years ago in both Scaterd Few and Men As Trees Walking. We, as in Americans, weren’t as polarized back then as we are today. Thanks for not holding that against me! Heh
@@ChameleonChurch I’m sure you have. I meant I have changed. Sorry if it came across the other way. Anyway, thank you so much for the music over the years. You will never know how much it has meant to my life.
@@ChameleonChurch Indeed! Thanks for the great interview. It’s so refreshing to see a person stay on point while not worrying about walking on eggshells.
I don't doubt I'll be stepping in it w/ this comment, but here goes. I've listened to a few interviews w/ AA as I'm a fairweather Scaterd Few fan (they're slightly before my time). Their history is definitely fascinating. As far as what he believes, I know he is claiming to have compassion for his fellow man beyond his beliefs/politics but frankly I've yet to see any proof of that. The handful of interviews I've heard mostly consist of him talking about how "most Christians" are doing it wrong. As far as people like me who no longer believe, in one of the interviews (I think it was Rumors Are True) he referred to people who've deconstructed "fools." Such a lovely blanket statement. It seems to be his mantra to say "It's man, not god" anytime Simon talks about what soured him on religion. I don't buy it. My upbringing in church was not rife with horrible people. Much the opposite. It was a decision I made on my own and not influenced by any adverse experience of anything that was done to me or taught to me. I just couldn't live in that headspace anymore. I disagree wildly with his political views but I'm trying not to be too discourteous here. I have to say, though... his attempt at summing up the left's political platform and particularly the way he's minimizing the Dobbs decision is just... insane. Where is love and compassion in any of this? Ok, so it's a state's decision now, so what are we crying about, right? I dunno, maybe because we have compassion for women in the states where it HAS been effectively outlawed, whose lives are going to be completely upended by this bulls***? Heaven forbid all pregnancies don't come to term, though. I just don't buy it. It's been such a wedge issue for the right since the 80's, especially the xtian right. They claim to have such love for all mankind, even fetuses, but they sure do not seem to care about the people who actually face the enormity of such a decision. Leave them alone, already. Aren't there more pressing issues in this nation and this world then whether or not a woman wants her pregnancy to come to term?

Ha, I remember hanging with Rob and Edie from Headnoise at cornerstone a bit. I saw them in VA at some point too.
Sin Disease was the most unique Christian album ever.
Mark Salomon next!

I had always assumed Allan was a liberal…
I’m pleasantly surprised he is not!
lol
Many have made that mistake.
Dreadlocks and punk rock apparently = “liberal” 😏

Indeed!

Let Alan know that Jawbone is better than Sin Disease
