    A fox had her babies under my neighbor's barn, two years ago. We would just sit and watch when those ten babies came out to play in the sunshine. One of the cutest baby animals I have seen, other than baby goats.
    I'm glad you and your wife did the right thing by saving this little fox and then letting the wildlife center take over until she could get back into the wild where she belongs.

      You said it! I love wolves, foxes, and pretty much any other dog. I have a dog named Sophie. She's a mini jack russell and she's around 5. She was abused and found in a cage in the woods with a huge rash from fleas. She is very allergenic to them . Whenever a little boy (about 2-7) comes she scratches and bites and struggles when he comes near her. And when we hold out a broom or a stick she cowards. We love her and she loves us and I'm proud to say she is my rescued puppy. ♡

    • @joreskovich9
      @joreskovich9 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      He wouldn't have survived had he been left. He could have been picked up/looked after by another fox but very unlikely.
      However those noises aren't all sad noises looking for his mom. They make those noises when happy too. If you notice at the very end it's slightly different, a longer "laugh" like sound than the short repetitive chirp like sound he started off with- that longer laughing sound or monkey like sound is what his chirp changing as he's maturing. It's VERY close to what he would eventually sound like in another month or so throughout the rest of his life and is actually a happy noise or am excited greeting. In fact you can see he is visibly excited between pacing back and forth waiting for the door to be opened up and jumping out without any hesitation or fear of his care takers. He was excited to see them and greet them. You can even see him wagging his tail or putting his paws up on the kennel im excitement.
      Foxes are extremely high strung animals so they often look anxious or scared- moving low with their tummy's nearly on the ground and rolling onto their backs which could be mistaken for being submissive out of fear- however like a dog or any animal on their backs to be pet and given affection by their humans it is actually a sign of trust and adoration as they are most vulnerable on their backs and only do so if they trust you and are accepting of your affection. Often times a happy fox will do just that and make those noises whilst on their back and will then grab your hand in it's mouth. That's the foxes way of showing affection as is using its front teeth pinching your arm leg etc because they are trying to groom you like they do pulling burs from each others neck area where they are unable to reach on their own- its how they show other foxes attention. Its very easy to mistake a noise or action for something it isn't, they can be quite difficult to understand but if you spend the time bonding loving and getting to know a fox you'll soon understand them just as well as you understand your dog.

    I use to look after fox cubs who's mother had been killed by idiots on horse back who consider it a sport and the best way to calm them down was to pick them up by the fur on the back of the neck and they would calm down straight away because that's how the mother carries them and it has a calming affect on them so give that a try and it's okay you're not hurting him

    I noticed that you are keeping the fox at arms distance it needs love physical love, pick it up and hold it to your breast so it can hear your heart beat. it is very important that it feels love.

    • @kiddfaith4397
      @kiddfaith4397 8 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      True enough. Though this cub was being rehabilitated for future release back into the wild, which changes how much human interaction and bonding it was to receive.

    • @RichardOhKaNoi
      @RichardOhKaNoi 8 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      the attention that you give that kit will go a long ways as to keep it healthy. it needs physical love to maintain a healthy growth then gently weened and lessen the human contact when it is about 6 months old it should be completely off of human contact and can be prepped for release

    • @kiddfaith4397
      @kiddfaith4397 8 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Richard Hilbert
      Good point. Though weaning animals off human dependency learned during their formative years is very difficult, depending on the species. While they may still learn to be independent of humans after said weaning, it puts them at risk of choosing to remain around humans and increases the chance of becoming problem animals after release. Teaching a wild animal(species dependant) during its formative years, that humans are trustworthy and reliable seldom ends well after release. This is why, in the professional practice of rehabilitating wild animals for release, human contact is kept as limited as possible.
      It's a learned behaviour that is very hard to change later without badly traumatizing the animal to teach it caution around humans again. A good example is how young bears are taught to stay away from human-inhabited areas when they become too comfortable around us. It involves live trapping and a hard release, and during the hard release into a wild area the young bear is hounded and chased by aggressive barking dogs and shot by beanbag guns. It can take more than one of these hard releases to retrain a bear that has become comfortable around humans.
      It may be hard to see a young fox wanting company, and it's instinctive for humans to wish they'd cuddled and comforted it; but it's necessary for the fox's wellbeing later on in life for things to be done this way, so it can stay as wild as possible. Often they try to put single orphaned or abandoned fox kits with another kit of a similar age, but this option isn't always available.

When mom is around she knows how to quiet them. When we rescued a critter, when I was a young girl, we would always put a hot water bottle and a wind up clock, (because it's like a heartbeat), in with them. Helps calm them so they, and you can rest.Although I could rarely sleep whenever I had any baby critters in my care, because I knew they were relying on me.

    This makes me wish that red foxes could be kept as pets.. It's like a cat and dog combined in to one cute, hyper animal, and they seem to be very loving and trusting of people who take care of them... Oh well... :c
