I’ve had a weigh safe hitch for several years, I loved the idea also. Hopefully yours stays working longer than mine did, after a few months my gauge dial froze in place. Called the company and no luck getting any warranty service from them. Still use the hitch today, the loading dial idea is just long gone for me. I loved it while it worked.
Well the main reason you cross your chains is for turning sharp turns. If your chains weren't crossed then when you made a sharp turn one of the chains will get pulled super tight and it may break.
@@jimanon5681, Trailer chains are designed to be crossed. If the hitch comes off of the ball while driving the crossed chains create a cradle that holds the tongue of the trailer off of the ground.
True, but when you're turning that cradle disappears. I am a Class A CDL holder and I drive a tractor with heavy equipment on trailers. I am just telling you why we actually cross our chains. It wasn't because of the cradle, that was just a happy accident.
Awesome hitch. I never heard of it before. I wish I had one back when I was towing stuff. I had to do it old school and just assume it was good enough. Every once in awhile I guessed way wrong and had the tail wagging the dog. You made a great purchase there.
@TKCL lol, I wasn't going to share my story. Sounds like we've both had that pucker moment. Lol. Seriously, though, great information. Will hopefully help someone from a dangerous situation.
To make repeatability easy, you could get a long tape measure decal to run the length of the trailer and write down at what mark the leading edge of each piece of equipment should be at. It won't be 100% pinpoint accurate but will get you in the correct ballpark, great video!
Years ago my husband was towing an empty trailer helping our son move. I was following him pulling another larger empty trailer. The Ball on his hitch broke and the trailer he was towing took off the road and the tongue dug into the dirt and stopped. I had to drive into town and drop off my trailer and drive back out to pick up his trailer to complete our trip home. That was the last time we pulled trailers. Not taking any chances. Another great informative video.
Hey Andrew, Nice new trailer and hitch. One thing I noticed when you had the excavator on the trailer you set the bucket flat on the deck. It looks to me (or the camera angle makes it look like it) your stick is at the same height or a little higher than the cab. You really should curl your bucket in and tuck the stick back toward the cab in turn lowering your boom (keeping you lower). This also helps a little bit with center of gravity. And when you chain it down, throw one over the joint. It's just one of those industry "things". Enjoy the new equipment and HAPPY TRAILS!!
Hi, Andrew! You always have safety in mind. There are probably many people who do not know all the safety tips you share on this channel. See you at 7:00.
You could paint different color lines on the deck to correspond with each piece of equipment, that would get you close then trim it using the hitch gauge. I love that trailer by the way, it’s a great design, I failed to comment on the fist video.
My plan is to take pictures of the equipment on the trailer so I know exactly where to load no matter what attachment I have on in the future. I would wind up with a bunch of painted lines because I have so many different attachments for all my equipment.
Cash, I got one of the 1st hitches like that when I had my custommade Ion trailer built which was built to my specifications 8 ft x 14 ft hauls 14,000 lbs, with a weight distribution hitch, bulldog 25,000 lb adjustable trailer hitch dual spare tires, trailer lights, additional 3M red and white reflective markers, anti slip on fender tops, 15,000 lb dual brake axles with folding ramp. At the time of purchase $2150.00 some 10 years ago. Coupled with additional load bags, shocks springs and auto leveling re inspected and increased gvwr certification by the state on my Tundra I can haul 14,000 lbs of anything as if it's not even there.
This is cool. What would be really awesome if it had a transmitter in it and a little key fob or something that would tell you the weight on the scale while you’re sitting in the excavator on the trailer still so you can move it to where you want it without having to get in and out and check, the dial all the time. I know you probably only use it once or twice till you figure out where your equipment needs to go and then next time you’ll just park it in the same place, but it would still be fun😅 I think if you were doing a recovery service or a towing service and trailer in different loads all the time that something like that would be a must have
You got me on this one. The title made me think that you got in a dangerous situation by improperly loading. Yet, I kept wondering how come you didn't overthink it and consider all possibilities, as usual. I should have known better:)) Glad that you've improved your safety:))
16 years on a racing team towing heavy inclosed trailer, sure could have used that hitch setup. Suggestion: paint lines on bed for position of front wheels of tractor/ex. Generator/gas loaded in truck bed!
Now they need to come up with a way to see that reading while still in the equipment you’re loading. That a lot of getting in and out and climbing up and down loading. I can’t drive anything but can see that if they made a way to remotely see that would be great help to people.
@@TKCL I do have an idea that could work fo you thou. Find a tiny camera that you could carry or even mount to the hitch that can cultivate to your phone with its own wireless signal then just connect your phone to the cameras own WiFi and boom there you go.
One time I had about 200 lbs of gravel in my car behind the back tires, and it was winter so the roads were a little icy, and if I went over 40 mph I lost my ability to steer. After a few miles I pulled over and moved the gravel to the back seat and I could drive just fine.
Pays for itself with less than 1 deductible, or replacing tires before their lifetime due to uneven wear. Wonder if they have a security lock so it can’t be stolen?

I hate hearing that, I personally know several people with them. I'd be curious about the warranty myself.
Good to see those chains crossed , I see so many people who don’t do that .. it’s a game changer if something would go wrong ..
Absolutely, I always do that.
I do the same however I've rolled a trailer completely over and it really wouldn't have made any difference whether they were crossed or not

Extremely educational video. Almost lost a ditch witch 25 yrs ago because I had to much weight at the rear of the trailer. Pucker factor was 100%!!!
