  • When it comes to lifestyle motorcycles, Royal Enfield is the king of the segment. But as you can see with their new range of products, prices have risen rapidly. To arrest this slide, Royal Enfield launched Hunter 350, its most affordable modern motorcycle. At the opposite end of the spectrum, TVS entered this space with the Ronin. Both these motorcycles have the same target audience but take a different approach. Royal Enfield as expected is more traditional with the Hunter 350, while TVS has gone more radical and modern with the Ronin. In this comparison video, we try to find which bike is better or rather are they two distinct motorcycles targeted toward different riders? Watch the video to find out.

    Been 12 days I got my hunter 350, i was confused between dominar 400, duke 390, and Apache rr310 and then suddenly hunter 350 was launched (never been a RE fan, well I was unaware of the upcoming RE bikes), first look made me fall for it so hard, damn looked like Triumph Street twin and Benelli leoncino 500 combined and with this amazing price tag. Hunter got looks, better engine, amazing brakes. On the very first week I went for a 2 days ride of 428 kms from Assam to Meghalaya, rode through all the terrains, handled so well in rain, off roads and the lastly the twisties and cornering (gave me ridegasms). I am gonna keep this bike forever. And the mileage was off the charts, unexpected of 39kmpl.

      I managed a whopping 41.13 kmpl (full tank to low fuel lamp) on my Meteor during a 3 day ride from Kolkata to Jampshedpur-Ranchi and back. And yes, I maintained speeds of 90-95 kmph for prolonged durations like 40 mins continuously, but avoided brisk acceleration. I can absolutely trust your 39 kmpl as the new J series engine is capable to give such numbers, if not going for flat out acceleration.
      Congratulations for your new bike...🙂🙂

    Here's a big problem with these kind of biased comparisons. On almost all fronts, ronin is a better bike but you chose to go with hunter. Most people care about quality, reliability, and durability instead of feel. This is evident from sales numbers, so it is incorrect just to evaluate things from a RE fanboy perspective. This is the reason why people are also looking for reviews from new experts on the block as mainstream channels have become promotion platforms and so-called experts share opinion instead of facts - can't be trusted anymore.

    Having driven both, what I can confidently say is that Ronin definitely needed to look better, have a better geometry that’s a proper roadster than a mishmash. Also, they needed to space out their variants more competitively, as there’s practically nothing differentiating the base and middle variants except colours. Dual channel ABS should have been standard in middle and top, while the top could’ve had the fancy features. And please, better colours on the top end. The current ones look terrible. Sure, the handling was incredibly easy, I’ll give it that.
    What Hunter has, is absolutely spiffing looks, good geometry, engine that rides better. It does not handle as well as the ronin, and could’ve done with a lot better ground clearance.
    The Ronin is on the back foot simply because it’s designed differently, and the colours do nothing to make it appealing. Oh, I forgot the tacky looking DRL. That’s not easy for ppl to live with on a daily basis. And that’s why I went for the Hunter.

    I've been into many potholes and many wide speed breaker, hunter passed this test seamlessly.
    At first I was a bit terrified about the ground clearance, but after riding I got a confidance that yes, we can take this bike on wide speed breakers and potholes.

    On so many points the Ronin was a clear winner, the ride quality , quick acceleration, technology on offer, tyres, and basically the connect with bike. Which the Hunter lacks.
    Only part where the Ronin looks a little underpowered is at higher speeds, and that is logical since it has a smaller engine.
    Looking at all this the Ronin is a clear winner

    RE hunter has only one issue i.e low ground clearance which is responsible for stiff suspension setup. Anyway i will still prefer hunter over ronin just bcoz it look absolute gorgeous, has good low end and distinctive exhaust note. Ronin isn't bad either but somewhat let down due to styling and engine could be bigger anywhere to 300cc.

    • @Farhan_049
      @Farhan_049 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Uhh, no... It's not just the ground clearance, but also the cooling tech, or rather the lack of it! The Hunter should also have had oil-cooling in it. As it is now, it will heat up in city traffic very easily.

    Ronin is clear winner. Its a 225cc bike. Nobody expects it to ride at 120 130 on highways. Greater acceleration whether 0to60 or 100 than hunter. That says everything. More features. Stylish looks. Only one con I can say is that it is launched against royal enfield. Which is like bollywood movie launched against tollywood.

      MT15 - Design is unique and awesome, extremely vibe free, very reliable, moderate service

      Go for MT-15 only if you already have it in your heart, for every other reason go with the 200 4v, the later is a better package in that price range, plus you would feel the different in throttle response immediately in day to day rides.
      If you are open to other bikes then try Hunter and if you can stretch your budget to another 40-50k then check Gixxer 250 and Honda CB 350 RS. They will keep you contend for next 4-5 years. With MT-15 you might get bored soon.

  • @TheLazyWandererMys
    @TheLazyWandererMys ปีที่แล้ว +38

    I rode both back to back and my observation regarding the performance were quite different. The Ronin I rode lurched forward as soon as dumped the clutch, it felt so much powerful, but that feeling died down immediately and it hardly felt peppy after first 10 meters, it felt meh for rest of the ride. The Hunter felt so much better in terms of how it felt when riding. P.S. i am not a journo and look for 0-100 times. This was just casual ride in the city and Hunter felt so so much better. And I was looking at the speedo, may be Ronin was faster but it didnt excite me in the least bit and the styling just doesn't work for me. Ronin on the other hand is like a confused sperm IMO. There are beautiful bikes that we refer to as 'She/her' and then are bikes that call to be addressed as 'he/him'. In all this, Ronin tries to be 'they/them'. Is it wrong? well... no, but will it work in its favour? IMO, not particularly, not always. TVS did the same mistake Honda did. They benchmarked RE and tried to be similar and failed. They should have gone for better cuz we all know both bike makers surely have high potential of making brilliant bikes.
    If I had to gun to my head and I had to choose between the two, it would blindly go with the Hunter. If not, i would save lil more and buy something better than these two.

I guess the larger Honda Cb350RS weighs 179 with 15 liter tank weighs 179kg with the same fat tires.. has an engine made of lighter alloys.. THe J series engine is a big lump of iron. The pathetic part of the hunter 350 is the 0-100 time,, over 15 seconds.. The Honda CB350RS can do it in 12 seconds. The Honda engine is a gem. Frugal and powerful (30Nm at just 3000 rpm).. Hunter doesn’t cater even re fan boys or beginners and on road hunter looks so small it does not turn heads. If u want re i suggest scram 411 especially if u are tall and well built . Scram 411 has best pillion comfort and good ride comfort

    Where is the logic?
    If both are built for city commutes mostly, then how can u say, the winner is the one performing good on highways.

    This review is unfair to Ronin. You're not comparing Ronin to entire Royal Enfield line up. You're comparing Ronin to Hunter. RE legacy and brand values are irrelevant to the viewer of this video because brand fanbois are already buying hunter. They'd buy it even if Ronin is better in every single aspect. Your job was to give technical revelations (which you gave amply), not talking about brand value which is subjective. (For example in my town, most RE riders are milkmen who are also part time criminals. For us, RE has negative brand value.)

    As a senior citizen who bought a REH in 2016, and dropped the bike a few times, I was drawn to the Ronin about 40 kg lower or 20 kg lower than Hunter. Having watched your video and a few others, it would be prudent to wait a year till all the niggling issues are resolved after 60,000 guinea pigs overcome them ! And if one wants to buy a bike immediately I think an RTR 200 or an Gixxer 250 or similar proven workhorses makes sense.

    Is it the correct time to book the interceptor or should we wait for new launches in the coming months? 🤔

    • @tanmayhaldar7565
      @tanmayhaldar7565 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The Interceptor is a proven platform.... And RE is notorious to delay new launches. So if you are the experimenting type who can live with the risk of owning a new design which may have initial niggles to sort..... It's best to wait. On the other hand if you are looking for a proven great bike then why wait? Also it's not like the engine will be new.... This argument also works for and against both ways..... Depending on who you are as a biker.
      I can tell you this.....if I were to make the choice.... I'd go with the Interceptor.... It's tough to better that in a long time
