I've been telling my mechanic I have been having this sound basically since my last brake change, but the sound isn't a constant, and I've never been able to actually show them the sound, because of course when I go to see them the car doesn't make it, but when I'm NOT seeing my mechanic its so loud I feel like I'm waking up half the neighborhood on my way to work. So they just say they will check it out whenever I bring my car in for something else, last time they were saying that its probably a serpentine belt, but I knooow it's something with the brakes. I am SO thankful for this video, because it's the only one that has had the exact sound I have had, as well the fact that it stops when the brake is applied. Usually a hard brake will make the sound dull or stop for a time. So at least now I can show the mechanic the sound if nothing else.

I been a mechanic for over 40 years and you need to resurface the rotors on a brake pad change . I did a test to others to prove my point. I took a 2014 Cruze and pads were almost worn out and rotor still looked new. I checked the runout on the rotor and one side was 5 thousandth and the other side was 8 thousandth, then changed only the pads and let’s my doubters drive the car. Everyone of them said they felt a vibration or shutter when they braked. I removed the rotors and had them turned at an auto parts store and got new brake pads and let my doubters drive the car again! They drove the car again and were blown away how the turned rotors produced no vibration or shutter in the steering wheel!

Nice video man, I had my own assumptions with my 1998 Saab 900. Just heard the chirping noise when I was rolling in first gear. Lifted my front end and shook the tires and checked my cv boots. No play in the bearing and the axles were still in great shape. The pads are probably at 60% and the rotors are in decent shape. I had never considered the glazing of the rotor to create an audible chirping noise. I just got the vehicle and it's at about 70k miles with pretty much all OEM parts. I almost made a rookie mistake and loaded the parts cannon. Thanks dude

Finally found the sound! Lmao my front passenger tire only makes the noise when my wheel is straight, & it stops when I turn the wheel in either direction & apply the brakes. I brought my car to the local mechanic and my right front wheel squeaks. That was done yesterday brand new rotors and brand new very expensive brake pads. A hundred and seventy dollars worth of work. I called this morning and they're not answering the phone. I'm going to drive down there. Brand new brakes, brand new Rotors. I did not notice it until hours later when I had to take a ride somewhere . I used to do my own breaks. But now that I'm older. I do not have the facility or tools. So now I rely on mechanics. That is going to change. For 200.00 I could have bought a whole toolbox and jack stands and did it myself.

    Abrasive Friction:
Abrasive friction involves breaking the crystalline bonds of both the pad material and the cast iron of the disc. Breaking these bonds generates the heat of friction. In abrasive friction, the bonds between the crystals of the pad material (and to a lesser extent, the disc material) are permanently broken. The harder material wears the softer away, meaning the disc wears the pad.
Adherent Friction: When brake pads press against the surface of the steel disc, some of the pad material transfers directly to the surface of the disc forming a thin, uniform layer. The surface of the steel disc and the surface of the brake pad become identical in composition. As the disc moves between the pads, friction material transfers in both directions, breaking and reforming bonds at the molecular level..
The question is... what caused the glazing in the first place? I'd begin my investigation with the caliper pins beginning to stick not backing the pads off wjen you release the brake pedal. Considering the noise goes away when more force is applied proves that the pads are in fact still lighty contacting the rotor.. extra drag warms pad and rotor causing thermal expansion. Extra force applied going down hill gives it the extra heat it need to remain hot by constant contact.. rotor cannot shed its heat and warps. .

What if I have noise when driving and braking coming from the wheels?

Check out our video on noises and see if anything matches. But otherwise you just have to pull the wheels and get a look

Almost a year ago I bought new Hyundai and it is my first car with automatic transmission (torque converter). From first day brakes squeaks when I in D or R slowly releasing brakes in order to slowly start moving, or in short moment prior to stop. They told my that this is normal for automatic transmission because in D or R car is pushing to move, so if brakes is slowly releasing but still touching wheels that cause that sound. But I can't believe that nothing can be done in this case. I ask some people and some told me that they have the same experience, with other brands too (even Mercedes and Audi), but some told me that they never had this experience with different cars with automatic transmission. Can you please tell me your experience with this, and your advice about what can be done about this? I have discs in the front and drums on the back.

I just got my pads changed on my car 2 weeks ago, when I drove off after pads were replaced it was making a slight noise so I didn’t think nothing of it XL here I am 2 weeks later my break sound exactly the same

Just had a full brake job. Mine chirps / squeals when I'm driving and car is turning / leaning into a left curve 🤔

Same with mine. Recently replaced pads and discs. I have taken the car back to the garage and for some reason, they can’t duplicate the sound, which I’ve recorded for them just in case. I’m inclined to think they put in sub-standard pads?

Having this issue for several months, replaced brake pads (same brand), replaced piston, lubricated the pin, issue still there. Will try another brand pad.

@@crestfall4 a week ago Since I could figure out the problem I decided to take everything off and look at my hub bearings, as soon as I did they fell completely apart!! I just thank God I decided to check them and I wasn't on the highway when they fell apart🙏🏿

What would cause a scraping sound to occur intermittently and go away when brakes are applied?

  • @Scorpion911_on_Twitch

Same noise on my Volvo, but only when turning left. New lube on the glide/guide pins, new rotor and new pads, it starts after around 500-1000 meters of driving 🤔

    • @JoshuaWhitesinger

Might be the dust shield for the brakes if it's squealing when you turn. Check to see if it's bent or making contact with rotor.

So if I change my driver side brake pad, do I need to change the passenger side or do I just swap out that one pad?

Ive replaced my pads and rotors on the front less than a week ago. It makes the same noise on both sides. I dnt see anything rubbing so not sure what it is
