    My i5-cs0053cl is identical to this, but doesn't have the dual fan setup...but it has the space for it. Has anyone upgraded to the dual fan that is shown on this video? I know 2 fans would be louder but also cooler I'd think...

    My upgrade went as per your demo except the recovery step process failed at about 10%.
    I was able to hook up the old HD via a USB housing and clone it to the SSD.
    Everything works great and the PC is nice and "snappy fast". :)
    Thank you very much for posting this. Fantastic demo.

    By far the best instruction I have seen out of at least 9 - 11 videos that I've watched. My laptop is very similar. 14" version and I actually am sitting here having purchased the same SSD yesterday. I did make the recovery stick today. Great detailed steps here. Bought another RAM chip to stick in the empty slot I have. I see you have two, probably 8G each.

    It's not a bad device. Our client bought one and we did this, but our client client wished to use Ubuntu and it worked like a charm. Very fast over all for a consumer product. But yes certainly this thing was held back by a spinning hard drive. But, it's also much cheaper then the Envy or probook series. Good job!

    • @PearComputingDevices
      @PearComputingDevices 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hook It Up Ubuntu Linux, it's an open source operating system. I prefer Mint Linux personally but we have a lot of business clients now moving to Linux in their environments given the risks involved with Windows 10 and Intel. Others are having us setup Windows 10 with Linux environments pre-installed that can work with their Linux servers. I can't blame them. It's free and you can study and modify the software itself to meet your needs/wishes. You control your computer again, vs Microsoft controlling your stuff. it's good stuff!

    The SATA ribbon cable is reletively easy to remove from the motherboard, Just lift up on the retaining tab and pull it out. I'd recommend you do this before attempting to pull the harddrive out and disconnecting the main SATA end. Less likely to damage cable/motherboard connector. ;)

    It looks like you have an M2.0 slot on your laptop, you can just add an M2.0 SSD in your laptop, and then copy the whole hard drive to your new SSD. The original HDD can be formatted later. In this way, you'll have double store space on your laptop.

    • @HookItUp
      @HookItUp  5 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      You could do that but it may be daunting to the average Joe, I'm mostly doing these videos for the average person who doesn't have in depth knowledge or confidence, or maybe first timers. I do however have some other videos that are completely end up off the wall, but in those cases nobody would ever attempt to carry out those procedures unless they already knew how to get to the components, until I get to the components they would already have to have in-depth knowledge of those subjects if that makes any sense. For instance I have a video coming on how to balance piston assemblies.

I want to upgrade the RAM, mine currently has 12GB, and would like to upragde it to 32GB or even 64GB, if that is possible? Will this increase the speed even more than just switching to the SSD drive?

    • @fernandojimenez2266

      No it doesn't, changing the RAM just will help you to have more programs working at the same time. Switching to the SSD drive will help you to other things like the video shows to run the OS faster, or run things faster.

      A recovery drive will only restore the OS, if you want the contents of the entire drive you have to clone it. Clonezilla is free Samsung Magician is free too but you need to clone to Samsung drives. Acronis True Image work well but you need a paid version unless it comes with your new drive.

    Excellent tutorial, will be upgrading to ssd end of summer, maybe sooner. Currently using only 100gb + 18gb recovery of total 2tb hard drive. obviously don't need 2tb. Could I put a 1tb or less ssd in the machine or piggyback an ssd as mentioned below for speed for the other things I do such as websearch etc, really don't need massive storage at all, reason I ask is a friend who is a wrinkly nerd like me but is a computer whizz says I need to have equivalent ssd to do info transfer from hard drive. Once again many thanks for the info, enjoyed watching the process.

    I upgraded my HP Pavilion 15 cs3073cl today. The plastic cover was not that easy to remove as shown in the video using a credit card - had to use a flat screwdriver which resulted in some minor dents on the plastic cover. I didn't remove the mechanical hard disk - I just added a Crucial P2 500GB NVMe SSD for $70 and then made clean Windows install directly on SSD which gets rid of the bloatware as well. System boots in about 8-9 seconds after power on. I reformatted the 1TB mechanical disk to keep my files there.

      The fact that the model is the same doesn't mean anything about how the battery works. It is however prefered to charge the battery of any device with a lithium ion battery to 90% and then stop. But you can just change the battery by yourself quite cheaply when this one goes bad.
