Not only have I never been this early to a Brett video, I've never been this early to any video, much less a video about one of my favorite players on my favorite team. I've said "Never clicked this so fast" before, but I really mean it this time. So hype. Already liked.
Edit: Just finished. Absolutely did not disappoint and exceeded expectations. Only thing I would've liked to see was you touch on his pick-6 that was called back due to offsides. A penalty negates it, but it was still a good read. Other than that, perfect video. I've been silently considering Eddie Jackson in the DPoY conversation, but I was afraid to bring it up around others for fear of them not understanding just how great he is. I'm glad someone else sees it as well, and a non-Bears fan at that.

I cannot hit the like button enough on this comment.
Defenses don't carry over from year to year. Replenishing them with better, different players in talents, skills gets you to the playoffs. Eddie was a great replacement to the former options. He and Khalil set the table, everyone else eats off of it. Look no further to when Ezekiel Ansah and Glover Quinn were on fire, guys hated playing the lions. The bears are set for years to come after Jon made the worst decision this season and the bears picked a sleeper nobody looked at due to his injuries.

Well said Dev. To piggy-back on your point, Jackson not only had the play you mentioned negated by penalty, he was a few yards from ANOTHER pick-6 in the Miami game, as shown here in Brett's video. There are so many other plays this season that Jackson has directly or indirectly contributed to on defense. I think Mack makes Jackson better, Jackson makes Mack better, & so on, creating a contagious ripple-effect throughout the entire defense that's compounded as the season & the Bears progress.

He has, I think, two CAREER picks. I don’t care what PFF says, he isn’t a top safety. So much so, there is a real possibility that the Bears won’t even resign him this offseason when he hits free agency. He is serviceable and I would love to see my Bears keep him. Brett, I ding you enough on Twitter when he's doing this stuff. I'm grateful that you made a film breaking down HOW this defense is taking teams offenses apart. And make no mistake, Adrian Amos (Bears Strong Safety) is rather rangy as well.. Those two work in a great "Deep man/Robber" tandem over the middle. It freezes even QBs like Rodgers, and makes them hesitate routinely.
If your WRs can't make highlight reel catches for 60 minutes, this secondary will give you fits. And, like you said, your QB still has Eddie Goldman, Akeim Hicks, Leonard Floyd, and Khalil Mack closing in on you... within 2-3 seconds. Retaining Vic Fangio, was the biggest key however. He has something going similar to what he had in San Fran, a absolute bully of a defense, that won't give up much of anything against any offense. And now, Matt Nagy and Mitchell Trubisky, are giving that defense an offense that will put up a minimum of 21 points a game. That is a DEADLY combo.

On the topic of the bears defense: im not sure this fits the format of your show but I’d be interested in your take on why there haven’t been many defense oriented teams this year that are doing well, when traditionally defense is considered to win championships. Some of the best defenses stat wise have pretty mediocre records like the jags, ravens, broncos or bills, while teams like the chiefs, patriots, rams and saints are lighting up the league. If I think back to past superbowl winners, most of them have had at least decent offenses, but even as recent as the legion of boom or the 2016 broncos are some teams that definitely more better on defense than offense. Or is this all just a coincidence, either way I’d be happy to hear your opinion on this.

The reason is probably that there's a ton of new blood and new schemes.
The past few drafts have had some insanely good players, even if they weren't all first rounders. We can't fully identify a player's tendencies until a couple of years in and those years haven't passed quite yet. When these tendencies are found it's usually the offensive players that take the biggest hit.
As for the new schemes we have guys like Sean McVay whose scheme popped into the league just last year, no defense truly understands how it works just yet and they're getting beat because of it.
In a similar vein Andy Reid's system is also fairly new. Some of it was present in previous years, but with Mahomes being more physically capable than Smith ever was it just now got fully released. It'll take a while to understand it as well.
I compare the situation to what happened when Peyton Manning had his record year with the Broncos only to get clobbered in the Super Bowl. As one Seahawks player put it everyone else was trying to react to the Broncos offense but the Seahawks kept attacking it and forced the offense to react to them.
Right now every team is startled by these new offenses and is reacting to them. Once they get over their shock they'll start to turn the tables.
I refer to it as the Patriot effect. The Patriot offense should be easy to stop. You focus on taking away the short stuff and don't worry about the deep ball. Brady is a dink and dunk king with receivers made for dink and dunk, pre Josh Gordon.Brady doesn't like to throw deep and when he does it isn't actually that good. It's clear to anyone who watches the Pats play, and the Jaguars actually did it once.
They played that defense all the way up until the fourth quarter and they smothered that offense. But then time was running down and the defensive coordinator became afraid of the deep ball. They ran soft coverage and Brady proceeded to dink and dunk his way to multiple touchdowns sending him to his latest Super Bowl.
The number of times Brady has dink and dunked his way to the endzone to end a half or end the game purely because teams revert to soft coverages is incredible.
Teams know what defense they should run, but they're just so scared of that big name and big moment that they lose their composure.

I think the NFL offenses are adapting to a more flexible view on their skill players. The best offenses are composed of a plethora of role players. Not just stars anymore. These schemes are created to expose defenses to the talents the players have rather than just traditional football concepts. Granted, I think the NFL's defenses will adapt. Just like they did after getting slaughtered by the 46 in '85. DAAAA BEARS!

    • @DarkKnightofHeaven
      @DarkKnightofHeaven 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

because none of those teams can even score. Bortles is nothing short of trash, the Ravens have a declining Joe Flacco, the Broncos and Bills don't have established quarterbacks (and everything on the bills is horrible anyways). None of the teams mentioned have decent offenses aside from maybe the Ravens.

This channel is literally the greatest, and I don't think I've heard anyone else talk about a lesser known talents so often and it's awesome because these guys are amazing. Maybe in the offseason it would be interesting to look at new trends in the league. Trends like more passing, premier edge rushers and pass-catching running backs have become so huge but maybe it'd be a cool video to look into how interior pass rushers and run stoppers deserve more recognition and value. Aaron Donald is obviously making huge waves from the interior but as a whole this is a significant part of ruining an offenses gameplan. Even just looking at Cowboys v Saints yesterday and Brees was continually forced out of the pocket and it was a struggling day for the Saints offense. Shedding more light on the interior of the defensive line is huge. You've talked about Payne recently, then there is Cam Heyward, Kenny Clark, Damon Harrison, and Geno Atkins pressuring the middle of the pocket as a 3 technique. They might all have different roles and some are more pass rusher and others better against the run but it seems an undervalued position, maybe because apart from Donald it's not that 'sexy' of a position. Edge guys are great like Miller and Mack, but Atlanta couldn't stop the Saints on early downs because Kamara was able to gain 5 or 6 yards easily up the middle, however the Saints struggled when the Cowboys had a gameplan to disrupt the inside of the pocket. Though it does help when the cowboys have great defenders, unlike the severely injured Falcons D.

I'm not a cowboys fan by any means, but a video on their defense as a whole vs the saints would be cool

Great analysis on par with and better than some of the very best on the cable sports talk channels.

As a Bears fan, when Ryan Pace drafted him, I knew he was gonna be a stud, but I didn’t even predict he was gonna be this good. 🐻⬇️

It's no coincidence the only year he was ever healthy throughout the Colts won the Superbowl. I remember seeing him play in person at Iowa as a kid. He was like the terminator.

At least y'all have Russell Wilson who's been a top ten QB from the jump. Griffin is a good player too.

Bro your videos are so good. You should have your own TV series where you do analysis just like this.
    Keep it up!
