    A skilfully put together presentation. Thank you. We are booked to do this trip next year ( booked out 8 - 12 months in advance) and your video has helped us to understand what we need to do to get the best value out of our (Platinum) trip

    Thank you for sharing your great experience. We will be travelling on this soon. But sorry to hear about your lost luggage. I always had a marvelous experience with Qantas for many years and when I arrived in Dallas Texas late for my luggage, two flight attendants got my luggage out of the carousel waiting for me. Things must have changed.

    Just as an aside: Qantas usually give people $200 gift voucher for inconvenience if luggage is lost. It’s to help you buy essentials till luggage shows up. In my work I used to help maintain these cards.
    What a shame - you should have been helped more by Qantas.
    Great video! 👍

      @johan_scheepers  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks. We did try to get compensated for the inconvenience by contacting Qantas. At first they refused any compensation but eventually, I think 6 months later, paid $60 to each of us. Not nearly covering all the clothes we bought, but at least it was something.

    First of all, on behalf of all Australians, I'm sorry to hear that our national carrier (which is by far the most expensive option to fly domestically) couldn't even do a simple thing like carry your luggage from one airport to the next. That's really embarrassing! I know who I WON'T be flying with.
    Secondly I was very surprised to learn that you took a standard/local intercity train from Katoomba to Sydney Central when in fact you should have been put back in your platinum cabin (for the remaining TWO HOUR trip to Sydney) because THATS's what you paid for - that is: Perth to Sydney NOT Perth to Katoomba!!! You should have been enjoying more free drinks in the 'Outback Explorer Lounge' or the comfort and privacy of your own cabin as you were making your way down the mountains towards Sydney.
    For the record, I am a long-time Sydney resident that has taken the Indian Pacific train the opposite way to Perth and has also taken The Ghan train from Darwin to Adelaide, so I am very familiar with Journey Beyond's services (and prices). Considering how much you paid for the trip, Journey Beyond putting you on a regular commuter service even for a fraction of the trip is NOT acceptable!
    Did the company at least forewarn people that if they took the Blue Mountains/Katoomba 'optional tour' they would be giving up their seat on the Indian Pacific train back to Sydney? It would be interesting to know.

    • @FromtheWindowSeat
      @FromtheWindowSeat ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately it’s not possible to hold the Indian Pacific in the Blue Mountains for the duration of passengers who choose to do the off-train excursion there (passengers can also choose to stay on the train and continue to Sydney). There are a number of reasons for this but key ones are that the IP requires time to be divided and shunted across up to three platforms at Central Station (because of its length), to be unloaded, to be cleaned, and then to board the eastbound passengers, and to depart Central well before the evening peak because the platforms are needed for other services. The timing is also constrained by limited paths on the Sydney Trains network … so it’s not ideal but the best compromise they can come up with. 🤔

    • @pv032
      @pv032 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@FromtheWindowSeat Fair enough. Katoomba's platforms are not long enough to accommodate the length of a train like the IP, nor can the IP block other trains from using the line through Katoomba for hours on end. The only way they could have done it is if they parked the IP at the often-empty train yard sidings in the town of Mt Victoria (around 17km NW of Katoomba) and then used buses to shuttle passengers to Katoomba (for their Blue Mountains excursion) and then return them back to the train at Mt Victoria for the departure to Sydney.
      Journey Beyond could have even thrown in another optional excursion stopping at the Hydro Majestic Hotel in Medlow Bath (6km NW of Katoomba, and on the same road one would take to go to Katoomba from Mt Victoria) where passengers could enjoy high tea with a lovely view of the Megalong Valley below. This would've given local bus companies some extra charter business as well as provided more exposure to places like the Hydro Majestic. I guess where there's a will, there's a way.
      You can understand my disappointment though yeah? It's like flying Business or First Class and then just two hours before you land at your destination, you get booted to Economy.

    • @FromtheWindowSeat
      @FromtheWindowSeat ปีที่แล้ว

      @@pv032 Yeah - I can understand. I’m pretty sure customers would be told that if they take the off-train excursion they will finish their trip on a commute train. That said, it’s a chartered train and the V sets used are a favourite among rail aficionados. So personally, I would quite enjoy having exclusive access to a V set. 🤓

      Australia, as you know were a little stricter than the rest of the world. Also we traveled during the start of 2022 when all Covid restrictions weren’t lifted yet. Unfortunately, whether we liked the masks or not, it was a requirement for travelling, so we had to do it in order to be able to go on the trip. Does that answer your question?
