in 2007 and 2008 I worked background on Big Love. My first day on the show, I was standing on set waiting to be told where to stand, when Bill walked up to me, introduced himself and asked if I'd been assigned a spot. I hadn't. He asked for my name and I told him. He called one of the AD's and had me placed on set. A week later i was cast on the show again and I ran into him and he greeted me by my name, which surprised me. Somehow, I ended up working on that show more than ten times and everytime, Bill saw me on set, he remembered my name. I later found out that he took care to know the names on everyone on his sets, including extras. Not only did he always greet me and others as equals, but he always took the time to chat with background actors. A hell of an actor, and a throughly kind and decent human being. RIP Bill, it will never be game over!
I met Michael in 2017, and it was after Bill Paxton and Powers Boothe passed. I told Michael that I was sorry about his two friends passing. We talked about Bill, and the fact that they did 5 movies together, and he named all 5 of them. I told him that I had seen 4 of them and I told him that the only one I didn't see, was Lords of Discipline. We both agreed that Bill was extremely talented and he said how wonderful of a guy that Bill truly was. It was a great conversation, talking about that and other things.
Years ago Conan O'Brien was at some movie premiere and Bill Paxton was there too. Conan asked, "Hey Bill, one of our interns is a big fan of yours can you go over and say 'hi?' Mr. Paxton went over to the intern and Conan saw the intern begin to smile, which got bigger and bigger as Mr. Paxton spoke with him. Turns out the intern's favorite movie was 'Tombstone' and Mr. Paxton recited *all* of his lines to him. Another time I saw him on some other talk show and he showed off a picture of his son who was still a kid at that time. Mr. Paxton was so proud of him! Flash forward to a couple years after his death...I was watching some fan made 'ALIENS' short here on TH-cam and in the cast was Mr. Paxton's son all grown up. Lords of Discipline was a great movie! Michael B played a great heavy, and David Keith was so good in the lead. Super underrated and should be more remembered today.
Yes, I have a copy of The Lords of Discipline on dvd, don't think it's available on blu ray, but should be. I made a massive mistake with it once. It showed late on Ch4 one night and I missed the beginning so didn't bother videotaping it and when it finished, I knew I'd screwed up. Then it showed again one day and I recorded it. Such a great movie and based on a book which I am tempted even now to read. Agree too that The Lords of Discipline is another massively underrated movie. Bill Paxton was the first person I ever interviewed in person. When he found out I was nervous, he had me do a shot with him and we talked about baseball and Pittsburgh. I realize later he did this to calm my nerves and let me know I was doing a good job. The warmest, most down-to-earth guy. Man, he was great.
Aye, i remember watching it at the Cinema when it came out, the classic "Greasy Sausage served up in a dirty ashtray" quote made us all gag and still does to this day!
michael and bill were such a big part of my life, my childhood … never met them, dont worship celebs … but these two are solid men, thank you for the joy i have got from watching your films 💙🇺🇸
This guy's one of my favorite actors he crushed every one of his roles! Terminator, tombstone, aliens, the abyss,Navy seals?! Pretty much a very underrated hero or in tombstone the anti-hero from all my favorite movies. And I love how he's speaking highly of mr. Paxton!
I love that Michael was able to share his story about Bill Paxton. I was sad when he passed. I had just seen him at the LAX a few months before he passed. I wanted to go up and tell him what a fan I was, but I didn't want to bother him. I missed an opportunity for sure. He is in at least five of my all-time favorite movies and Big Love TV show. God Bless you, Bill, and your family.
Bill & Michael also worked together (sort of) in the original Terminator. I say sort of because they didn't appear together. Bill had a very small but important role early in the film - he was one of those three punks at the Griffith Observatory when the still naked Arnold approached them and wanting their clothes.
@Jon The scene set the initial tone as to how relentless and indestructible the Terminator would be thruout the movie. And he was the most vocal of those three. Quit overthinking this.
I worked with Bill Paxton, and although I never interacted with him directly, word from the crew is that he was ''insane''. I've also worked with Michael Biehn, even had a little chat with him one time, he was very kind and very humble.
I never met Bill Paxton but his passing hit me like a Mack truck. My friends and I have been quoting his movies since seeing Weird Science on VHS. My friend named his first born son Hudson after Bill's character. True! Biehn and Paxton and Weaver were all brilliant in Aliens.
This is my favorite IoY interview yet. Thank you Rosenbaum for letting the stories have breathing room. Michael Biehn is one of my favorite actors of all time and it means a lot to me to hear and see that he is doing so well (and looking great)!
Bill Paxton came across as being a great guy as well as incredibly talented there aren't many that can show such diversity in the characters he got to play on film I first noticed him on weird science
Bill was the real star of Aliens, he carried the movie. His was the character everyone remembers the most, his were the lines everyone still quotes. He was an exceptional actor and it was always clear to me that he was a good man.
I love Michael Biehn's work and also Bill Paxton's. Breaks my heart to hear it must be true that they f'd up Bill's heart surgery. What a loss!! 💔 Also love how Michael is such a straight-forward, no b.s. kind of guy. Absolutely loved him in Terminator and Aliens. ❤
Michael Biehn is one of my fav actors. Loved all his movie roles. A rugged, handsome actor, he was the perfect cast both in Terminator and Aliens. - From India with Love ❤️
l'm a big fan of both Michael Biehn and Bill Paxton. l was watching a podcast when it was it was announced that Bill had passed away. l was so taken aback l cried on the spot. As Michael says - sadly missed ! 😢
I couldn't believe when i heard he died. He was so handsome and charismatic, I loved every movie he was in. I was obsessed with Twister when it came out and had a poster on my wall. 💔
Such a shame that Biehn didn't get a re-up in the 2000's like so many of his peers - you can argue that roles like Terminator/Aliens aren't exactly high art, but he totally inhabited those characters, and is arguably a better actor than many of those that did go on to a second round of stardom. His unhinged intensity and intelligence comes burning through as Ringo in Tombstone, the perfect foil to the quiet madness of Kilmer's Doc Holliday.
He had a serious problem with alcohol during that time and it almost killed him. Cameron also said Michael was a very talented actor from a fairly small town in Alabama, and never adapted to the Hollywood scene at all.
My childhood hero, saw Aliens when i was...5 years old, asked my parents to get me a alien, the xenomorph, they said they don't exist, i was pretty let down, and right after said well when I grow up I want to be a colonial marine because of Mr. Paxton's character, William Hudson
The thing I get the most about people remembering Bill is how Bill would go way out of his way to be good to others. He had this sharp sense of humor but underneath that there was a truly legit good guy.
My cousin works in the film industry and was fortunate enough to work on the set of the TV series Training Day with Bill Paxton. He said, because Bill started as a Set Dresser, he'd always compliment how great the set looked. Bill was very personable and would talk to the crew and learn their names. My cousin isn't a star struck person but he was quite impressed by how down to earth Bill was. RIP
I have never heard Michael Biehn in an interview before. Right when he started talking my brain started firing Aliens and Terminator memories. Such a recognizable voice.
From the bit part in Terminator to Aliens, the often-forgotten role as Chett in Weird Science, Near Dark, Predator 2, the cameo in True Romance, and all the other parts, Paxton was always entertaining in whatever he did.
@@garyhall2770 He's probably thinking of Bill's TOMBSTONE co-star Val Kilmer, who played Elvis. A great small Paxton role I haven't seen anybody mention yet is the wisecracking bartender in Walter Hill's wildly entertaining STREETS OF FIRE. For bigger ones, you don't get much better than the 1992 two-piece knockout of ONE FALSE MOVE and TRESPASS (the latter another Hill.)
Bill really is missed man. He was something else. When you watch a Bill Paxton movie, you are not the same afterwards. Seriously. So miss him. Mike did a great job with describing him. Aliens 4 ever man!!! In a Bill Paxton voice of course❤🫶
Thank you for bringing the real human stories to light in these interviews. everyone forgets in the celebrity arena, these are people, basic, human and real - jut the same. Thank you so much. Your channel and its content s so awesome
Some actors die and you think how sad you felt when that person died. Then you move on and think about other things. Then an actor you really liked dies and it stays with you some bit. Brandon Lee, Robin Williams, Alan Rickman and Bill Paxton are those kind of actors. I felt like I kinda grew up with those guys as a kid. Like a death in the family sort of feeling. Hard to describe. You miss them.
I was in the theatre in the 1980s when Aliens came out. When Bill Paxton's character was grabbed and taken away, the audience booed...and violently. Never seen that before or since. Huge statement to an actor with a minor part conveying such emotion. "Game over man, game over".
I remember that Michael Biehn said that Bill Paxton was unsure as to how Pvt. Hudson was going to looked at because he felt that Hudson was annoying or that his performance would be ill received because people would think he was annoying. This made Bill Paxton sad, and basically both James Cameron and Michael told him that Hudson was the audience, he was the hysterical emotion of the audience that expressed the fears and thoughts onscreen. That was what basically calmed Bill and he continued his great performance on ALIENS. This was the to me a parallel on how Veronica Cartwright felt of Lambert in ALIEN as well, because Lambert was similar to Hudson on basically channeling the audience's feelings and thoughts. All of the characters in ALIENS, as like in ALIEN, they are eternally iconic. Bill Paxton to me will always be Pvt. Hudson and Jerry "The lone Ranger" in PREDATOR 2, and Michael Biehn will always be Corporal Dwayne Hicks. We must enjoy life and try not to hurt people because life is as Michael said, and there will be a time all will unexpectedly end, and it will be like in Pvt. Hudson's iconic phrase "Game over man, Game over"
Holy crap, i didn't know that at all. Everytime I have defended Pvt Hudson to people, when they thought he was annoying and such, I literally have said to people that he is the audience. his character is the audience that goes through the emotions. From badass marines another walk in the park bug hunt mission to scared, unsure and almost paranoid when they get their asses kicked and then Hudson gets it back when he is given small tasks and he starts to reign it in when they have their objective to get the spare drop ship from the sulaco and then of course, he becomes heroic in the gunfight in the control centre "he's over there, get em!" until...he's taken. That story about paxton being sad about that, that's crazy, cool, but co-incidental to how I explain to people that HIS character is US, the audience.
@@thejanusproject32 Exactly, but I mean, look at it on the realistic perspective, Marines that are used to kill people in wars and the such, all of the sudden seeing and fighting alien creatures that to them the marines weapons mean nothing. That killing one is nothing and the creatures ARE their own weapons, and being caught by then is certainly worse than death. No matter how tough a marine is, that would affect anyone psychologically and emotionally, because it would bring them down from the Militaristic conditioning that "They can beat anything or anyone" because of their training and weapons. The fear of ALIEN that is shown a bit in ALIENS is that from the dark void of space, there are things that see human's technology and warlike ways and aren't phased by it, humans are just food or incubators for them, and as such, sure, determination is a strong force to survive for humans, but luck is a gigantic factor. Hudson evoked his limits and anyone whom would be in the same situation. I mean how do people feel when fighting a lion, a bear or a Shark in the night in the ocean? That is Hudson, that is the audience and that is what made Bill Paxton's and Veronica Cartright's roles so good in both ALIEN and ALIENS.
I met Bill Paxton by happenstance. He was in Atlanta at the gym I would use. I talked with him briefly and said I Liked his Movie Aliens and his character portrayal was spot on. He was very kind and talkative. Not at all aloof. My impression going away was that he's a really Cool Dude. Rip Man.
Through odd circumstance, I am not an actor in that sense, community theatre and in school, I met Paxton in an acting class, got to work with him twice on scenes. He was so generous and understood the work. Paxton adhered to a 'protocol' I learned at that school, one most important. Listen. Be in the conversation and not off with your own lines. Listen and react. The text will come but intention is from reaction. It has been a valued discipline in my entire life...
"YOU'RE STEWED BUTTWAD" BIll Paxton in Weird Science absolutely killed me as Older Brother Chet, I'm pretty sure that was the 1st time I had seen Bill In a Movie but then to see him In Aliens "Game over man Game Over" I just had a feeling he was going to be pretty big one day , It was tough to hear that he passed after a surgery, that was fairly routine . The good thing is that we have his performances on DVD etc and watching those makes it feel like he's still here that's one of the great things about Movies !
Love bill Paxton . His father and my father were neighbors and I met him in a elevator one day and couldn't have been the. Nicest and most humble celebrity I have met. R.i.p bill Paxton one of the top 5 most underrated actors in Hollywood .
A truly versatile Actor & I miss him dearly. Besides the well known over the top funny characters let's not forget he was great with drama in such movies as "One false move", "Frailty", "A simple plan", "Tombstone" and "Apollo 13" to name a few.
The storm chasers tribute to Bill was really touching. He was a great actor, but he also brought a lot of people into weather awareness and storm spotting. Bill gave all his roles real cultural impact. Game over, man. Game over.
I first saw Bill Paxton On the Barnes & Barnes Fish Heads video that he directed a very long time ago, but first heard the song on the Dr. Demento show. Bill was a great actor that really entertained the world through all his movie's... RIP Bill..
I got his pic and autograph at an autograph signing event in Dallas at the Hyatt inside the dfw airport about 10-12 years ago. He seemed more humble back then . He was very nice.
I had the exact same heart condition as Michael Biehn, born with a malformed heart valve. The problem is that it doesn't open and close properly, and so it begins to calcify, but typically, it doesn't start to really affect you until you're in your 50s. Mine was diagnosed when I was 48 when I had only very minor symptoms, but my heart surgeon said it was the worst he had ever seen -- he described it as looking like a boulder because it was so badly calcified. He was amazed I was even alive, let alone that I barely had any symptoms. Four years after surgery, and I'm doing great.
in 2007 and 2008 I worked background on Big Love. My first day on the show, I was standing on set waiting to be told where to stand, when Bill walked up to me, introduced himself and asked if I'd been assigned a spot. I hadn't. I realize later he did this to calm my nerves and let me know I was doing a good job. The warmest, most down-to-earth guy. Man, he was great.
I loved Bill Paxton so many times have I used the line it’s game over man in unfortunate situations and I think about him now every time I say it
Ditto.x
Ok who didn’t love Bill Paxton in aliens 😊😂
""Somebody said "alien" she thought they said "illegal alien.""🤣
Hey Vasquez, have you ever been mistaken for a man?
No, have you?
Game over man. Game over!
@@roughrider6129 🤣🤣🤣
he was cool in Navy Seals too
If you've never watched Bill Paxton's performance in Near Dark, you should because it's absolutely fantastic.
Loooved that film! That bar scene was crazy!
Bill Paxton as Chet in WeirdScience '85 was my first intro to him... great actor!! (RIP)
I'm sure Terminator's part of the 5 films he mentioned.
@@jaylucien669 That was for those who perhaps weren't aware of Paxton's role in the film.
@Jon The scene set the initial tone as to how relentless and indestructible the Terminator would be thruout the movie. And he was the most vocal of those three. Quit overthinking this.
@Jon It is an important scene. Club Mogambo's right
@Jon Nope. Just saying you're wrong and we're right.
I worked with Bill Paxton, and although I never interacted with him directly, word from the crew is that he was ''insane''. I've also worked with Michael Biehn, even had a little chat with him one time, he was very kind and very humble.
“ You don’t steal the American dream, you earn it “. A great line from Bill in the movie “ A Simple Plan. “
Another truly outstanding movie. Very good writing and perfectly developed characters.
I never met Bill Paxton but his passing hit me like a Mack truck. My friends and I have been quoting his movies since seeing Weird Science on VHS. My friend named his first born son Hudson after Bill's character. True! Biehn and Paxton and Weaver were all brilliant in Aliens.
Me too, Neil.
This is my favorite IoY interview yet. Thank you Rosenbaum for letting the stories have breathing room. Michael Biehn is one of my favorite actors of all time and it means a lot to me to hear and see that he is doing so well (and looking great)!
Bill and Michael are two if my favorite actors. I cried bug time hearing of his passing.
Bill Paxton came across as being a great guy as well as incredibly talented there aren't many that can show such diversity in the characters he got to play on film I first noticed him on weird science
He speaks about Bill in the present tense. Love this. I miss Bill dearly.
Bill was the real star of Aliens, he carried the movie. His was the character everyone remembers the most, his were the lines everyone still quotes. He was an exceptional actor and it was always clear to me that he was a good man.
You need to bring Biehn back for the 10 minute story, it's a must! I loved the both of them so much every time they were in a film together.
Amazing, one of my very favorite actors talking so wonderfully about another of my favorite actors. It's nice to see. I really miss Bill Paxton.
It saddens me that Bill Paxton is no longer with us. He had so many more years and fine performances in him.
Mike is having trouble getting the words out. I wasn't unaware that he'd had a stroke. Explains alot. Nothing but love for ya Mike !
Michael made this podcast stay in my top 3 man he's so cool he doesn't even think he's cool
"Aliens" was the 1st movie I saw Bill in, and I always think of Hudson when I hear Bill's name. "Game over man!" stuck with me. RIP
Such an awesome description of a human that loved another… just well said and eloquently put. Love this man
My cousin works in the film industry and was fortunate enough to work on the set of the TV series Training Day with Bill Paxton.
When you are missed and loved you’re not gone…..
RIP Bill……
❤❤❤
So sad he's gone, he would have been such a funny and interesting guest to have on any podcast with his experiences
I really miss him. Great man!
From the bit part in Terminator to Aliens, the often-forgotten role as Chett in Weird Science, Near Dark, Predator 2, the cameo in True Romance, and all the other parts, Paxton was always entertaining in whatever he did.
What character to Bill play in True Romance?
@@garyhall2770 He's probably thinking of Bill's TOMBSTONE co-star Val Kilmer, who played Elvis. A great small Paxton role I haven't seen anybody mention yet is the wisecracking bartender in Walter Hill's wildly entertaining STREETS OF FIRE. For bigger ones, you don't get much better than the 1992 two-piece knockout of ONE FALSE MOVE and TRESPASS (the latter another Hill.)
He rocked Near Dark,
Bill really is missed man.
Love micheal biehn and do miss Bill they starred in so many great films together
Just watched the Terminator on the big screen last night. Well done Michael Biehn.
I remember him as the dad in frailty. Frailty had my all time favorite surprise ending.
great acting in that one!!!
@@lilpoohbear653 He directed it as well.
My town has two intersecting streets, their names are "HICKS & HUDSON"!
Michael B and Bill Paxton --two great guys and great actors. I couldn’t believe it when he died so unexpectedly. Miss him. RIP Bill 😢
He was one of my favorite actors. He was in so many great movies.
Both Biehn and Paxton are two of may favorite actors. I started digging these two watching Aliens, which I’ve seen 20 times or more.. R.I.P. Paxton.
Rip Man.
I loved Bill Paxton. "Why don't you just put her in charge, man"😂😂😂😂
😂😂😂 his unravelling cracked me up so bad. Never seen anything like it had me hooked ever since.
Born in the 70's, came of age in the 80's...
Bill & Michael will forever and foremost be Pvt. Hudson and Corporal Hicks to me.
Paxton always struck me as a dude everyone liked
Rip BILL. Both him and Michael are my childhood heros
Could listen to him all night...great show ..
Bill is one of the things I most remember of my childhood/teens in the 80s and 90s. Great films that he made without doubt.
Bill Paxton will always be missed great actor
Paxton was great in Frailty (with Matthew McConaughey) in case anyone's looking for recommendations. Good movie too.
