If you will study how drug abuse effects the brain, especially the frontal lobe, you will see if your open why its not a good idea. Empathy and knowing the difference between right and wrong have been severly compromised weather or not you can understand the implications of that.
I get it, you want a viable candidate which is a good thing. Keep looking my well intentioned friend! So do I!

I fough for 10 years and it slowly robbed me and almost destroyed me. Im a super type A personality, successful, bla bla bla, I NEVER thought I'd become an addict. Its just something a person will never understand until they experience it....
      Anyway. 15 months clean now.

    • @relight6931
      @relight6931 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +12

      He said it quite poetically.
In the words of a common junkie, it boils down to, "only 1more time, or only today.."
We are perfectly capeable of inventing reason, where complete nonsense stuff.
To someone not addicted, it seems like ultimate delusion, yet every time dope sickness comes knocking, you got a job or other impossible to get out of social arrangements.. You tell the lie to yourself, fully believing it, while obvious evidence from the last few days, months even years clearly states otherwise.
If you got an addictive personality, basicly a coping mechanism for the things I know I miss as a human being, only real solution is two fold. One is to understand which hole is the addictions trying to fill. Basicly things that were wrong with you either towards any drugs or risky dumb behaviour once you past youer teens. It could be childhood trauma, neglect, or any real impacting trauma, maladjustments to society, privacy.. Really anything that left you as changed.. Then, when you realize what they are, work on them directly, instead of coping through other means.
Second is to switch your dopamine requirement with actually not so bad addictions.. Toward exercise, hobby, what ever.. Any of those things will be beneficial. Just stay alert, towards new addictive behaviours you might pick up along the way. If they are looking bad in the long term, try to eliminate them before they take roots.
Also, and I am only speaking opiates here, getting clean is just the start. It is going to take months to years of work, usually unmotivated, but crucial, before your receptors start to regulate themselves back into some semblance of normal. Before that, you can expect depression, anhedonia, just general shitty mood that seems like it won't pass, but it will. If you give it time and actively work to grow in other ways. Relapse is normal, but I wish I knew some things before, and wasted much less time with what I would call not needed ones. Basicly, if you want to quit something, even if you relapse once monthly, you have again put yourself in risky situation, not to mention it takes away from healing, for much longer then it actually felt good.
Some people might feel like taking psychiatric medication, like anti depressive, to speed up recovery, and I won't take that option from anyone, sometimes, it's all about going through a crises and just trying to survive, with least amount of wounds possible, but my personal experience is that I didn't like them.
Your micro/macro nutrients will help too, good sleep, good nutrition, at least walking 30 min a day, if you got no willpower for something more. Just stay active, give it time and it does get much better.
I find weed is enough for me, to take a rest from my own self. I just make a habit of buying it once per week, for amount I can afford, and when it runs out, no more till next week.. Unlike how I used to approach it, being high 24/7 and spending more money on it, even during my active phases od dealing with H.
Basicly don't beat yourself about what happened. It's life. Everything is likely and possible to happen. Just focus on the future, how to get out of any kind of addictions you might have, and working on yourself to be the kind of person you would like to hang with. Later on, even live with.
Also, unless you get rid of friends, who are only friends due to same failing, it is going to be hard.
I don't find absolute abstinence as something to be steiving for.
But adress those substances and behaviours, that tend to make you do something habitually, with clear signs of obsession and nip them in the bud. If you already found something making you competly lose control.. You need to want to stop, then stop, for yourself first, then for anyone that knows you, or is related to you.
      Good luck.

That's exactly how I finally successfully quit smoking cigarettes over 20yrs ago. My experience was similar to yours. Took around six months from time I prayed in ernest for God to give me the desire to want to quit til the morning I set as The Day to stop. But it was SO easy to turn the page of the chapters of my life. I never looked back. My health has greatly improved. I basically admitted to God that the reason I realized that I'd not successfully stopped "for Him" in the past was honestly because I simply didn't want to & I asked Him to give me the desire to WANT to quit. He did!

Keep your eyes to the front, brother. Don't worry about appearances right now. I'm 10 years sober last Monday, and I clearly remember the kind of hell you're in right now. Your skeleton feels like it's on fire right now because you're burning through everything you don't need. It really is better on the other side of this, I promise. You'll have some long term work to do afterwards, like learning how to live as a natural human again and figuring out what sober people do for fun. You will lose some people who you thought were friends but never were. That's gonna be hard, but it's all easier than detox. Just take your time and keep going. You remember the story. This is so hard. I was sober from alcohol for 25 years. Never had 1 urge to drink - at all. Not in 25 years. Then, I went to my hometown for a visit with family. At about 3:00am I woke up and went into the kitchen for a drink of water. I opened the refrigerator and there was an open bottle of wine. I closed the refrigerator and went back to bed. A few minutes later I went back into the kitchen and poured a glass of wine. Just one glass. Went back to bed. Was proud of myself for only having that one glass. Then I had another glass the following night. Then I flew back home. That 2nd glass lasted for 13 years. Nobody knew I was drinking for 13 years. 13 years of isolating, avoiding friends, avoiding anything social. Have 1 friend that I would see and she still does not know. No one knows. I haven’t had a drink since December 2023. Almost 10 months now. The funny thing is - that as strong as my sobriety was for over 25 years, I always stated that I would have zero defense from drinking if I ever found myself alone with an opened bottle of wine in the refrigerator - and look what happened. . I didn’t drink and drive, I did not drink every day, maybe 2,3 times a week, never drank during the day but at night before going to sleep, never got on the phone after drinking. It was very controlled. - but no doubt that my medical issues are a consequence and feeling so alone and total disappointment in myself - and - if that is not enough - I want a drink right now but know that I can’t.

Thank you for posting this clip Sean. I’m a 22 year veteran, retired 10 years and I’ve literally (as in literally in the past hour) been classed as disabled due to chemicals I was exposed to in service which have destroyed my brain, CNS and immune system. I’m struggling with alcohol addiction which I use to self medicate as it temporarily eases my symptoms but brings it all crashing back when it wears off. I’m also Irish (born and reared) so I can relate to Robert and I have seen my own family go down similar paths. The doctors won’t give me painkillers or muscle relaxants in case I become addicted (which I probably will) so I use cannabis which does help a lot, but to my point, this clip has saved me today from falling again because today is day 1 of trying to be sober again and it’s only 10.45hrs here and I’m already looking for an excuse to drink. There’s no alcohol in the house and I’m not allowed drive but
I would to get booze. Listening to Robert’s past (which I knew nothing of) has made me realise I’m going down a path that is hard to turn back from. I might be a big man but I have tears rolling down my cheeks typing this. Thank you Sean and keep up the great content. Love all your work no matter how controversial people ‘think’ it is. I was brought up in staunchly catholic Irish family with god rammed down our throats and we’ll all go to hell etc. That and the scandals in the Catholic Church turned me off religion but in latter years I’ve become more spiritual in that I still believe in god but not the ways of the church I was brought up in. I try to pray every night but feel guilt that it’s seen as desperation. I don’t go to (catholic) church as I think it’s highly hypocritical with the place dripping with gold and them handing out a plate for money and even electronic transfer machines these days. But I know there’s a god watching us and this life is a test and all we can do is be our best. I’m proud of my service but now I feel what was it for ? Greed by big corporations to make money out of suffering on both sides. I’m convinced evil is running the world. The devil if you will. I sound mad I’m sorry but it’s all around us now. Thank you again and god bless you 🙏

@@Machlooper Ya I agree the world is filled with alot of evil and seemingly more and more as time passes. I too struggle with what was our purpose over there but I am proud of the way I conducted myself, helping the civilians over there the best I could, watching out for my battle buddy, and fighting off an enemy when they were actively engaging us. I know I wasn’t doing anything sinister day to day, we were actually trying to make a difference, whether it mattered or not. Now with your Catholic Church statement, I couldn’t agree more. I don’t understand how people can remain catholic. I don’t like the church setup, I don’t like all the formalities. I don’t like that they worship saints and the Virgin Mary. We should only be worshipping the father and son, God and Jesus. I think what’s most important is having a relationship with Jesus and praying and trying to be a better person. The Bible is filled with life lessons and teaches how to be morally right human beings. I go to a regular Christian church, no denomination other than Christian. The pastor I believe is for God and lives a Godly life. I think if you find a good church with a pastor that you know is living for God than you can benefit from that. I brought my wife to church and now she goes more than me, when I have to work. My kids like it, they sing Christian songs at home instead of whatever is on the secular radio. I think it is a positive influence on my family. But anyways, that’s just my opinion. Take care and good luck, hope you find peace and happiness in life.

@machlooper Don’t know if this makes much sense to you but war you’ve seen (up close & personal)….stick with cannabis. I live in a state where they won’t even let us play Bingo (ALABAMA) much less legalize MJ (God FORBID!!!!) Luckily, because I’m ate up with arthritis and 78yo, I have a standing script for hydrocodone & msl rlxrs, BUT they have lowered the efficacy to 50% or BELOW & pharma has added “other ingredients” in the pills that prevent people from o’d’ing & they make me feel sick. Pain pills are NOT what they once were, believe me. If you live in a state where cannabis is legal, ask those kids behind the counter to give you a strain FOR PAIN. The wrong cannabis can be detrimental for you. Plz ck this out, ok? Keep your powder dry Patriot 🪶

I'm on my way to do drug/ sobriety court next month.
3rd DUI. I've probably been charged with 8 over my life if you include drugs.
I'm glad I found this tonight.
I traded in addition to addition for years. I'm currently on Coors light. 18 a day after work. The heroin was what my main problem was. The only reason I got clean from it around 5 years ago is because the supply dried up. The good Afghanistan grey hard chunks dried up. As did the Mexican tar and Mexican brown sugar. It all went to synthetics. I lost my youngest brother in 07 to it.
In a way, I'm sad that the synthetics have killed way more people. But I'm happy to be alive. I thank God that I don't have any good heroin connections anymore.

The alcohol messed me up more than anything. I would drink a 15 case of natty light then a couple glasses of prison wine every night until my pancreas hurt so bad that it was easier to detox than to keep drinking. Terrible withdrawals. Now I'm back on opiates again, withdrawals every 4 hours.

I could have listened to RFK junior his downside all day, but I didn't hear his upslide from this segment?
RFK junior was meant to live this life, he learnt humility early in life.
God allowed RFK junior to experience a wide range of life to prepare him for this time as the United States Presidential run.
    A Super duper honest man.
It would be the first time in American political history to have a President this open and out there.
RFK junior is an open book. What you see is what you get.
