      I think that if you are using the gh5 as a hobby camera you are gonna be more than happy. The videos and even photos still blow my mind sometimes with that powerful little camera. I genuinely plan on buying my 3rd gh5 this year because they are becoming so cheap and they are perfect for long recording and run and gun shooting. Overall it’s an amazing camera at a great price. Also a new fan from Norway 🇳🇴. Cheers 🍻

    Great Video @ Lowell Productions. I know that many Professionals like you, use Metabones speed boosters; but for video Makers on a budget like me; what do you think of the Viltrox EF-M2II Auto-Focus 0.71x Speed-Booster MFT Converter for Canon EF Lenses, paired with the GH5? I have a Canon 80D, and been thinking of the GH5 paired with the Viltrox, as I have an extensive array of Canon Glass already. Thanks.

    • @professionalpotato4764
      @professionalpotato4764 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's never going to be fixed based on how Contrast Detect and DFD works. Until Panasonic puts PDAF into their sensors, don't expect video AF.
      Existing DFD autofocus already runs at about 400-500hz and it's still not reliable enough. You would probably need processors powerful enough to run it at 2 or 3 Ghz for it to ever work.

    The GH5s for my preference is the better camera. It has a larger multi aspect ratio sensor, better colour science, lock down sensor which I preffer, better low light performance. If you stick a Voigtlander, 10.5mm F/0.95, 17.5mm F/0.95 , 25mm F/0.95 , 42.5mm F/0.95 or Pentax SMC-A 50mm F/1.2 lens on this camera you will get very close to the full frame look and if you go one step further (which I don't bother with) with a metabones adaptor, you have literally turned your MFT GH5s into a full frame camera. I own 17 lenses which I use on my GH5s. I have tried the S1 H and it is too heavy and for me not worth the extra expense because I am happy with MFT

    • @LowellProductions
      @LowellProductions  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So I found it works pretty well, but you get some crop when stabilizer is added and I found that typically I had to turn the lens stabilization(on the lens) off when turning the camera on. Once the camera is turned on I click on the lens stabilization and it seems to work pretty solid. Sorry to hear you were having issues. But maybe this will be a solution. Please keep me informed, I would love to help you get it setup better. If that doesn’t work for you I can send you a quick video of my settings to see if that would help as well. Cheers 🍻

    Can any camera experts help me here are my options
    Xt4, gh5, g9, blackmagic 4k, A7s iii
    I'm looking to use them for all around Videography, like car broll, real estate video, basically a good broll camera with possibly vlogging and photo features.
    I know the Sony is too expensive for me but would he a great perfect option. Xt4 was solid untill I saw its stabilisation which is terrible. Black magic is a beast but lack autofocus which might be annoying, no stabilisation (but I could in the future buy a vlogging camera and have a good video camera that doesn't need autofocus, so blackgamic might be a good idea)
    G9 has decent autofocus, good quality, great stabilisation and pretty good video features.
    Gh5 has unlimited recording, older and not as good sensor, worse autofocus, good stabilisation aswell.
    I need help because I can't decide! Hopefully somone can help. (if I'm gonna get a Xt4 the blackmagic is cheaper and is a much better option so I don't think I want the Xt4)

    • @xUnleashed167
      @xUnleashed167 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was in the same Situation and bought the xt4. The ibis isn't terrible at all, in fact it's the second best behind Panasonic, by far not on the same level but especially if you pair it with a stabilized lense, it's pretty awesome. For video production i would nevertheless go for a gimbal like the weebill s, which costs around 300$.
      I find ibis is the most overrated thing.
      If you solely want video, i would probably consider the blackmagic 4k or the G9. Blackmagic has no AF and the G9 AF is bad.
      If you want to also shoot photo and don't have the money for 2 cameras (which was my situation) go for the XT4. It can handle both photo and video on a very capable level.
      The A7s III is like 3 times the price of an XT4. Considering you still need lenses for that, that's gonna be expensive as hell.

    • @Provolt
      @Provolt 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@xUnleashed167 yea I'm just deciding if I want autofocus or just immediately learn manual. Still can't decide its so annoying. Its like pretty much no autofocus = black magic, decent autofocus =g9 or good auto focus Xt4. Do you think for everything manual would be OK?

    • @xUnleashed167
      @xUnleashed167 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had the g85 before and honestly having a bad AF and doing all in manual mode was pretty annoying for me. That's one of the reasons i switched. Especially for Gimbal use i want autofocus.
      I know how you feel because i was very confused as well. Every single camera has its downsides so thinking too much about it won't help you. If you think you can work with manual focus, go for Panasonic. If you don't do photography at all, go for blackmagic (keep in mind that you need a strong PC to work with RAW video Files). If you want a good hybrid, go for the XT4. If you have enough money (at least 5k for only body and lense) go for Sony. You could also consider the sony a7iii, which sells around 1500$ nowadays. It's full frame and you could buy lenses and use them again when buying an A7siii when its dropping in price. The A7iii is pretty good for video as well, just doesn't have 10bit colors and 60p in 4k. But AF is awesome. Just an idea.

      @@xUnleashed167 yea thanks i still gotta weight out the positives and work it out. I might also hire a black magic and see how I feel with it. Its just annoying because in my country you literally can't hire cameras like the g9 which is the camera I'm most interested in

    • @Provolt
      @Provolt 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@xUnleashed167 like the Xt4 is a bloody expensive camera. G9 was like 1.4k not long ago, 1.7k gh5, black magic 4k is 1.8k and then you got the Xt4 that's a whopping 2.1k just for the body.

    I was thinking of getting a GH5, or a GH5s. I plan to use the camera more for video than for photography, and I will be out in the field shooting tourism style video, so often I will be using it handheld. I know the GH5 has stabilization, but the GH5s does not. The GH5s works better in low light, comes with V-log, and some better specs on video. If I get a lens that has stabilization, will it make the GH5s good enough in regard to stabilization? If so, what lens do you recommend for that purpose?
    Someday I may get a Ronin gimbal... but not in the near future.
    Or...
    Should I get the GH5 and then a sigma lens with a viltrox speed booster? Will that handle the low light issues of the GH5 and thus make it the better choice?
    Based on what you have been saying in this video, a lot of the video features and profiles cannot be used on the GH5, when shooting in low light. Seems to me that sort of negates the camera as an all-around useful video camera... UNLESS - you tell me that the sigma lens with speedbooster will make it possible to use all those features... Will it?
    P.s If I get a GH5s, and a stabilizing lens, will it still benefit me somehow to have a speedbooster, or will I no longer need that item?
    Sorry for all the questions. Thank you for the help. I am new to all this and want to get the best tool that will support my needs, a few years into the future, before I grow enough to need (and can afford) another camera (like maybe the GH6 that's overdue to be released).
