    I totally identify with each stage of your hair journey. Only difference is I did not take care of my hair during the years I wore a wig. Lots of breakage. Had to do a "big chop" once I stopped wearing the wig. Thanks for sharing your story. The hair/self love struggle for us ladies of color is real.

    Thank you Jacy for being so transparent. I have big chopped my hair 3 times. Now it is growing but it still looks short. My hair is type 4. But that is part of the journey. I love your sentiment of wearing curly hair anywhere, no matter the occasion. This encouraged me. P. S I love your hair!

    That was a fun video seeing your hair styles throughout the years! I honestly would not have recognized you with some of the styles. Especially the wigs! I love your current style with the loose curls/ringlets. The blond color looks good.

    I love, love, love curly hair! Mine looks similar to yours in curl size and length, except I achieve that look via a yearly perm. My natural hair is fine-textured and straight, which means having to shampoo it every single day or it looks “piecy and greasy.” I’m almost 60 and have had perms off and on for the past 30 years. When I do wander off the path, I always end up going back to a crazy head of curls. It makes me feel fabulous and sassy! (And I can wait an embarrassing amount of time in between shampoos). 😮 I consider myself a “curly girl imposter” but I’ll take it any day over my natural situation. Your curls look amazing on you!

    Thank you, I stopped using the flat iron in July 2019. During the pandemic I cut my hair to achieve an Afro. I braided my hair in box braids and relied heavily on “natural’ hairstylists. Moving forward I’m going to cut my hair and style it. You’re an inspiration to your Black and biracial sisters. 😊

    I watch all of your videos but this video I really liked only because I usually go for the titles that have story times in them but I really wanted to watch this one! I loved how open you were to be able to laugh your past self😂 I remember this one hair style that I really wanted when I was little but my hair was too short and it always made me sad I never got to do it. In case you were wondering it was a two strand twist sort of bangs in the front, ponytail in the middle and then a couple more two strands twists in the back, making a sort of back head bang twists😂 Really loved this video💜

    Thank you for this video. I am Puerto Rican and have very curly hair but I always straighten it. I guess it was just "easier" for me but I don't feel like myself anymore. You have been motivated to start wearing my curls again. I have bangs and love how you wear them curly so I might try to do something similar, thank you.🤗

    Well, the good ol' TH-cam rabbit hole led me to your video. As a fellow biracial human that possesses similar hair characteristics, I say embrace those curls. As a child, my hair was curly. As I've aged, I've gained a new found respect for my formerly curly hair. As such, I'm in the process of growing my hair out to reclaim my curls.

    I'm mixed and ❤ my curly hair too😁. I haven't gone through the straightening my hair FaZe in my life. My white mom steered me away from straightening my hair even though she didn't really know what to do with my hair or how to really take care of it at first but she learned. And I have 2 younger sisters and one of them has hair that leans more to the black side in texture. But other then that she could pass as white like me but she has light brown hair and blue eyes and burn in the sun white complected literally. And my youngest sister has curly hair like mine mixed/ kind of like white people hair but she is dark complected like our dad. And I look in between in my complexion compared to my sisters and I can tan. We all look like sisters because our facial features are similar regardless of the different skin tones. And our mom learned how to do mine and my younger sisters hair too❤.

    Nice channel. But African American is not "difficult" as stated. You do need to know how to care for it, just like with any type of hair. Im glad you have grown to love your natural hair. I think you look beautiful with dark hair. I'm not your audience, but that's OK. I can tell you are still early in the journey because you say some problematic things that i believe are unintentional. We all go through our journey of self-love and identity development. I wish you well and much success.

    • @AcousticUplift
      @AcousticUplift ปีที่แล้ว

      e-sakara6457. I'm so glad you said this. As a dark-skinned Afrodescendant woman, with so-called 4c hair, references to 'difficult' hair really jarred with me. It reflects the internalisation of a white (supremacist) beauty standard. However, as you said, it's early days. I hope these aspects evolve whilst engaging with other experiences of Afrodescendant women and their hair. I've had natural hair for a long time but fell into the habit of relying on protective styles over the decades. I'm now venturing into using my real, natural hair for longer periods and it's a re-awakening. Thank God for that. The journey of being released from mental slavery, to paraphrase Bob Marley...

    When I was very young my hair was thick and so curly like yours. I am an "octoroon" (Like Megan and Harry's kids) where I have a smaller amount of black than you but boy does that West African black DNA stand out with my hair! Black DNA is strong even with an octoroon like me and my sister who was more lily white than me! She actually has curlier hair than mine and could never work with it very well so she just kept it short and curly. So there goes the theory of the lighter you are the less "black" you have. It was torture for me trying to straighten it. I used chemicals and flat irons. Now my hair is thinner since I am an old lady and is straighter. Now that I look back I wish I would have grown it very long. Boy, what a real natural beauty I would have been with all that thick curly hair. Silly insecurity of the youth when you are mixed race. Thanks for sharing your photos and experiences. Very similar to mine. Wigs galore too. Super interesting.

    • @Colorbrush21
      @Colorbrush21 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you are like Meghan and Harry's kids, you are a quadroon. Meghan is 1/2 black, so her kids are 1/4th black. They would be quadroons.
      An octoroon is 1/8th black, meaning one great grandparent (8 total) was black. If Lilibet and Archie marry white people, their kids will be octoroons.

    I was born with a tight row of curls at the back of my head. My Mom told me how, when she came back from the hospital, my Dad was unusually solicitous, having her settle down, while taking baby me to another room to cut off my curls, and returning proclaiming that no son of his would be a “sissy”. My Dad cut our hair with a barber kit he had acquired at some point; his Dad was a surgeon, so it kind of makes sense as the professions were historically related. We four boys all had buzz cuts through elementary school, but there were many intimidations - including my Mom reciting to me the poem about the girl with a curl in the middle of her forehead - that my hair was naturally curly, and that was an embarrassment on my Dad’s side. My paternal grandmother had my Dad’s hair straightened for a Dutch-Boy hair cut in which he was posed for a Little Lord Fauntleroy style photograph circa 1930. As I discovered later that my paternal grandfather’s parents were Galizian Jews, I suspected that my Dad was subjected to “Jew boy” slurs growing up and that that accounted for his hypersensitivity over curls, even though there was plenty of wavy hair among men on his Mom’s side of the family.
