This time I repair and resassemble a beautiful carriage clock which dates from the 1880s; the height of the Victorian period in England. By luck I heard the mainspring on this clock the moment it snapped. It was as if the clock was crying out to me for help. So in this video you see the repair and restoration of the clock and the calibration of the cylinder escapement.

I do not do much talking in this video so it is a good ASMR hit and relaxing to watch.

The care taken with the Stanley knife cracked me up...comic genius Richard 😂😂😂
Lmfao!!! I was like omg he serious?!
There's something beautifully theraputic about watching videos like this. Many thanks.
That's very good to hear Duncan as this is part of my intention! Much appreciated. Richard
Well, first time I've seen a Stanley knife on a watch making video. Nice touch with the tweezers and screw.
Makes a change from Rolex.
Wow, very cool clock. Love how the escapement can be viewed from the top.
Hi @_Napoletano_ ... I agree, especially through a nice piece of bevelled 1880 glass! Nice! Richard
its a first 4 me to awesome 👍@@richardperrettwatchmaker
It's a beautiful clock, so well made and meticulously restored as we'd all expect. I also really enjoyed the ASMR blade change on the Stanley knife 🙂
Blessed and Happy 2024, Richard! Thank you for your restoration of this beautiful carriage clock. 😊
Love that clock. Especially with the blued setting lever at top. First class restoration!!!
A wonderful service for a Victorian-age timepiece. This was a great way to begin 2024! I wish you continued success, and abundant health for the coming year, Richard. This was very calming to watch and enjoy (pardon the pun).
It is always a pleasure to see a master at work (we don't talk about the minute wheel! ❤😅)
Hi @Katzenkotze85 in my defence it goes that way round on the Rolex 3135, 3035, 1570 ... in fact on them all! Thanks for the feedback! Richard
😅 i really appreciate and love your work - don't get me wrong! ❤ best regards - Chris
Hi Chris ... Haha! I was just amused because when doing the edit I was deciding whether or not to refere to the 'minute wheel' ... I decided not to do this and it transpires you knew this anyway! Nice one! Thanks for the support. Richard
I appreciate how you handle everything under your hands with the same seriousness and respect, whether it is a simple cutting knife or a 1880 clock. This what makes your work so masterful. Many thanks!
I like a mainspring that can cause severe laceration if not handled properly lol very cool project
Hi John ... Yes, Goggles and big leather gloves were worn as I removed the spring from the barrel! Thanks for the feedback. Richard
Had an absolute pants week at work, just spotted your new video, thank goodness. Thank you
Hi Paul... Very glad to be of service sir! Thank you so much for letting me know my efforts are a tonic, especially to the wearisome worker I guess .. much appreciated! Richard
Always a joy to watch a Master at his work.
Hello Richard! Such a joy to see another great video from you. Cheers sir.
Another fine job Stanley. 😀
Superb ! This type of clock is very noisy ! 😊
Nice change of pace with the clock.
That clock looks amazing!
Wonderful video my friend. 👍
Richard, you forgot to blow the dust away inside the Stanley knife and apply a tiny drip of oil on the sliding mechanism.
I enjoyed that - thank you. Nice ABU reel you have there - magnetic braking, nil level wind. Serious stuff! I’ll bet it runs like a clock! :)
Hi @9f676150z8xF ... ABU started as a clock and pocket watch company! I do love their Ambassadeur reels. Just so well made and this one in 'burnt orange' is dreamy. Well spotted sir! Richard
Ok, the box cutter screw thing made me laugh
Thanks for posting this video. I have a similar clock with a French movement that I have been working on. Unfortunately, the cylinder part of the balance staff is broken in two pieces. I have the pieces so I may be able to take measurements and somehow find a similar replacement. The pivot "plugs" look good. I think that special stakes are used to remove the staff and pivots. They are nice clocks and do not take up much space.
Thanks for posting
You’ve approached the entire production with a wry sense of humor.
Everything about the clock is so huge!
And what of the katana at the start of the video?
As always thanks for an enjoyable video!
Bravo !🤟😎🔍🕰🤝
What an interesting video you really need some larger screwdrivers especially if your asked to fix Big Ben next 😂
Take care & stay safe Sir.
Wow fantastic
Magnifica restauración. Awesome.
Very nice video. Is there a story behind the fishing reel?
Seeing you change the mainspring would have been interesting, instead of the Stanley blade.
Hi, I really enjoyed your video!:) At the beginning you mention that the case is lacquered. Which lacquer do you use for brass? Thx for your answer!!:)
Is the ABU reel next up for service ?.
Hi Dave... It does need a service as the drag washers are pretty shot through. I toyed with the idea of doing a video on it but I think I would have subscribers voting with their feet as soon as it was posted! Richard
Все це є гарно,але я не побачив ремонт пружини головної😊,чи ви її замінили на нову
You'll never be able to wear that on your wrist?🤣
Hi Rod ... haha! No pendulum, therefore it is really just a large watch. Smaller than a Panerai for sure but still a watch at heart! Richard
382 thumbs uP
He didn’t put it in the timegrapher
GEORGE GRAHAM'S GIFT TO THE HOROLOGICAL WORLD CHEAP CHEERFUL AND RELIABLE...EVEN IF IT IS A FRICTIONAL REST ESCAPEMENT .
Not very authentic, Richard, I'm sure that they wouldn't have had B Dip or modern oils in Victorian times. Should have used some toxic cleaner and whale oil in my opinion 😂
What sort of butcher replaces a Stanley knife blade without ultrasonic cleaning and precise re-lubrication? Unsubscribed. (not!)
Haha Karl! I am just wild and free sometimes! Nice one! Richard

🤔 'promosm'
Withput a commontary running account or explanation, I find this to be quite boring!!!
Sorry - not really
waster under gear
A bit of constructive criticism. You did not need to spend around four minutes to show you changing a Stanley knife blade and sharpening a piece of peg wood. Nice footage, but adds nothing to the story.
I personally feel like the utility knife portion of this is actually Richard making a parody of himself
I stopped watching after your ridiculo9us 3 minutes of wasted time sharpening some pegwood. I have better things to spend my time on. I came here to learn about carriage clocks!
