This time I repair and resassemble a beautiful carriage clock which dates from the 1880s; the height of the Victorian period in England. By luck I heard the mainspring on this clock the moment it snapped. It was as if the clock was crying out to me for help. So in this video you see the repair and restoration of the clock and the calibration of the cylinder escapement.

I do not do much talking in this video so it is a good ASMR hit and relaxing to watch.

Well, first time I've seen a Stanley knife on a watch making video. Nice touch with the tweezers and screw.
    Makes a change from Rolex.

It's a beautiful clock, so well made and meticulously restored as we'd all expect. I also really enjoyed the ASMR blade change on the Stanley knife 🙂

A wonderful service for a Victorian-age timepiece. This was a great way to begin 2024! I wish you continued success, and abundant health for the coming year, Richard. This was very calming to watch and enjoy (pardon the pun).

Hi @Katzenkotze85 in my defence it goes that way round on the Rolex 3135, 3035, 1570 ... in fact on them all! Thanks for the feedback! Richard

Hi Chris ... Haha! I was just amused because when doing the edit I was deciding whether or not to refere to the 'minute wheel' ... I decided not to do this and it transpires you knew this anyway! Nice one! Thanks for the support. Richard

I appreciate how you handle everything under your hands with the same seriousness and respect, whether it is a simple cutting knife or a 1880 clock. This what makes your work so masterful. Many thanks!

Thanks for posting this video. I have a similar clock with a French movement that I have been working on. Unfortunately, the cylinder part of the balance staff is broken in two pieces. I have the pieces so I may be able to take measurements and somehow find a similar replacement. The pivot "plugs" look good. I think that special stakes are used to remove the staff and pivots. They are nice clocks and do not take up much space.

Hi Dave... It does need a service as the drag washers are pretty shot through. I toyed with the idea of doing a video on it but I think I would have subscribers voting with their feet as soon as it was posted! Richard

Not very authentic, Richard, I'm sure that they wouldn't have had B Dip or modern oils in Victorian times. Should have used some toxic cleaner and whale oil in my opinion 😂

A bit of constructive criticism. You did not need to spend around four minutes to show you changing a Stanley knife blade and sharpening a piece of peg wood. Nice footage, but adds nothing to the story.
