    Every single one of these 10 tips is a keeper. Amazing. I have a painting tip for you to share: when i purchase paint the guys at the hardware store run a computer-generated label and stick it on the paint can lid. Supposedly when you need to purchase that color of paint again you can just take the lid in and they'll scan it to make the proper mix. Well - saving paint can lids is problematic so I ask the paint man to run me 2 extra labels and I put both labels on 3x5 index cards. Both cards get clipped together with other cards and one goes into a junk drawer and the other into the garage with paint supplies. On each card I also put the room in which the paint was used and the date I painted. From that time forward if I want a quart or gallon mixed i just take the index card to the hardware store.. It's a lot less messier than paint can lids. Thanks for your great tips. Good job.

    I would further suggest with #8 that the inside of the faceplate be itself painted so that the faceplate can easily be taken to any store for a paint color match should that become necessary for any reason.
    Alternatively, the store's sample swatch could be tucked away there.
    However, when we paint, we get the paint and supplies *before* we start removing face plates and base boards, so this may not be the most ideal place for some (but I still like the idea). In any case, when you go for touch-up, the paint likely would have faded enough that the touch-up will be noticeable even though technically it's the same color.
    My issue with masking tape appeared to be evident for you as well when you removed yours on #10 -- the very edge of the "good" paint often has that little flashing (for want of better word) that sits there a-flappin' in the winds when it's either stretched by or detached from the tape. How do you remove that without tugging a chunk out of the "good" painted section?

    • @SpecificLove7
      @SpecificLove7  7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Good question. You can always gently glide a sharp knife along the edge of the tape if it appears to be stuck.

      1986turbozcs i second that motion.😍

    • @1Howdy1
      @1Howdy1 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      For a clean edge instead of pulling the tape straight down, inline with the edge, pull away from the paint edge at a 45 degree angle. You basically have 3 days with blue tape, depending on conditions, or the chance of residue and ripping go way up. The tape should be removed before then - if that means remasking, that means remasking. Never leave the tape on after painting, the proper removal time is after it flashes, but before it totally dries. There are several ways to get a nice clean paint edge - tape alone isn't one of them.

    Problem with the handle solution is that you loose the capability to keep the handle to carry the unused can of paint. Better to use a wire hangar.

    I wondered at first if these would be hacks that I had seen everywhere else. Some of these elevate other hacks, but most were new to me. Good vid.

  • @sirdukeusa3289
    @sirdukeusa3289 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    When pouring your paint into the pan, I always punch little holes around where the lid goes on, that way the paint will seep back into the can, and not down the side.

    • @1Howdy1
      @1Howdy1 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Just don't get paint rolling down the outside and in the lip. How? Pour your paint with confidence and when done, quickly tilt the can back almost level while tapping the can on the floor. Very little paint will end up outside the rim. Even if you have holes in the rim, paint should be cleaned up with your brush. Besides, you shouldn't have any paint left over to worry about the paint in the rim. A few days won't hurt and beyond that - just keep painting until it's gone. This is 2017, all paint stores keep computerized records now - just ask them to make a note when you order. What room, or rooms this paint goes to, etc. If you need touch up just ask them to mix up a small sample. There is absolutely no reason to have half a dozen mostly empty paint cans stored in the garage someplace - really. Unless it's oil base the paint in the can will be dried up by the time you need to touch up anyway.

    • @7tub3r
      @7tub3r 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not sure the small sample will work. Even with computer records, there is no possible way to ensure the sample you get will completely match the original gallon(s) you used. Paint stores recommend if you buy multiple gallon cans of the same color you mix all the paint together to make sure it is an even color. If you try to touch-up from a small sample, and the touched-up area is in a conspicuous location, it will, in all likelihood, be quite visible. You are better off getting enough paint to repaint the entire wall (or ceiling) corner to corner

    This was great - summer's coming and it's time to paint! I especially liked the last idea about the hair dryer and the masking tape. I'm sure that'll come in handy when we paint the window frames a different colour than the walls. ;-) And covering up the paint tray to avoid having to clean it every day! Woo-hoo! Thanks for the tips!

    These maybe good ideas for a diy painter. But as a professional painter the only one that seemed like a good idea to me was putting the tape behind the faceplate. I'm sorry but all the other "hacks" are pretty useless. If you have a roller with a long enough nap on it you can roll the corners no problem, and we don't use paint trays we roll out of 5 gal. buckets, we tap our brush on the inside of the can and wipe it on the inside edge, and we don't use tape to get a straight line against trim we just brush it, but I know not everybody can do that. I have been painting for years so I have alot of practice. These may work for some people but it just seems like a waste of time to me, no offense.

    great tips, except...#1 That cap is not for pouring paint out. it's for putting tint in. The consumer should take the whole lid off. #5 You shouldn't be scraping paint off your brush. Otherwise what is there to put on the wall. You should pat your brush on the inside of the paint pot.
