The R1200GS is actually easier to pick up than the 800GS despite its size, as it only goes over as far as the cylinder heads whereas the 800 goes all the way to the floor.

@@hassanjamal4212 The 1200 cylinder heads stick out sideways, the 800's are vertical, so the 1200 is much winder down lower. When it "falls" over, the first thing to hit the ground is the top of the cylinder (or guard outside of it). It's sort of that the bike leans sideways at an angle instead of turning 90 degrees flat on the ground. In very rough terms, it's the difference between a diamond that falls sideways, and a rectangle that flips on its side.

But you still need some skills to help get yourself out of trouble if it's not experience it's a motorcycle course most states require them now before you can get a license which is good but experience is a good teacher. I’ve ridden through loose sand on that bike and almost dropped it. When you guys were saying that the bike wants to do it’s thing I didn’t realize that at the time but that’s exactly what I was letting it do, I just stood up and just let the bike do its thing. Fantastic video!!! I did this course two years ago and loved it!! I crashed and got hurt in the gravel pit on day two, so didn't make it to the sand! You are inspiring me to go back!!! Btw, especially good job on edits and talking about your brother in and your Dad! That put a smile on my face!!!

I went there last year. Very informative and fun. I took the on road course and at the end they had us do that same stop in the corner except it was dry so they had us hold it at 60 mph and then emergency stop. Everyone looked at each other and said " aint happenin " but we all did it. Nice to know since I ride a 1250.

My uncle Tim bought a Sportster. Then he discovered BMW multi-purpose. Lol. Moved from flat land Louisiana to Pikes Peak territory. Ive followed him as far as the road goes to the top where the gates restrict further travel. Memorable times.

Time 17:16 the sand pit. Sean did you know that in this years 2022 Dakar rally there was one stage where the four wheeled vehicles rutted a sandy stage so badly the motorcycles could not get thru the deep ruts with out falling even going very slowly that the stage was effectively neutralized by the stewards. So do not feel bad that you fell in those rutted sand conditions because pro riders with better equipped motorcycles fell too

The M1?; NEVER heard of it....before B&B. ANOTHER great insight- that's why I love this channel.
The big ADV bikes?; NOT for me.....at 65, 5'7"/30" inseam, and 42 years riding experience, I have a rule: I don't ride what I can't pick up OFF me. I (amost) got crushed by a Goldwing in the 1980's; learned my lesson. Another lesson I learned, especially if vertically challenged like myself, etc. is....WEIGHT TRAINING, and mostly lower body/legs stuff. You NEED to learn how to p/u a bike w/ the least hassle/energy. SQUATS, baby! And offroad- it's even MORE important!
My current ride is a '87 BMW K75C w/ hard-bags...and I know I couldn't do that slow speed/tight minimum circle on your skills testing. Much respect. And the big/bad BMWs?; even more so. I wish the mfg. would come out w/ a 500-750cc ADV bike, a mini-GS/Africa Twin hybrid....for the rest of us! (the Honda CX500 doesn't interest me)

I took my first m/c riding/safety course in 1978. It was at a race track, and the classroom stuff ate up about half the day. In it an instructor asked...."Hey, a show of hands here: who likes to go really fast?!" Everybody puts up their arms, eagerly. Then he asks: "Hey, who here loves to panic stop/full lock?" NOBODY puts up their hands. Then he asks: "Who loves to go REALLY slow?" Again, nobody. Then he said...."Good. Because we're going to PRACTICE both.....because next to cornering, that is the hardest thing to do well." Part of that training was riding a m/c mounted in a "squirrel cage" w/ out-rigger wheels.....and going from 65mph to a full brake lock up. SCARY. But I was just as scared then of the SLOW speed maneuvers being taught, doing cones, minimum radius turns, etc.- in a parking lot- away from any/all traffic. It was all a MENTAL game.

This is basically hill climb style. We obtain wet 250-1200 cc bikes, strap angle iron or paddle wheels on back, knobby on front meander through woods to get to hills from truck then hit the hills. We started on mini bikes and small trail bikes from different manufacturers then build up to the big bikes.
