Exactly! TCAS has done the job by setting both planes at different altitudes. TCAS is an absolutely wonderful technology that has reduced mid-air collisions to being almost non-existent! TCAS automatically detects when two planes are on a collision course and simultaneously gives both pilots instructions on how to avoid it. Despite the contradictory instructions from air traffic controllers, pilots should always follow TCAS! In other words, if a TCAS alarm sounds, pilots should follow it even when TCAS contradicts instructions from the air traffic controller! That's it.
