Doesn't know what pepper has to do with a palace(?!) because did not bother to read the instructions sheet, it's explained there. So for who's interested: the factory is in fact a monastry and it was builty with money from "the pepper tax".
All the Caravelles, had to pay a tax of 5% in Lisbon, and this tax was used to pay for the monastery construction. That's why you use spices to "construct" the monument.
The movement mechanism with the water currents (or streams) looks very neat. The game seems quite nice. I had merely heard disappointment about how light a game Caravelas is, but it looks like a nice game to me. Thanks for the review Tom.
I like that this game is not just about shipping the goods and you can also get points for exploration and completing the "tickets" :) also those good/bad cards are are a nice idea, should i play bad cards first and leave good ones for the seconds part or vice versa. interesting.
This is not exactly the truth. Ships had to carry rocks under the line of the water as ballast and use the goods as ballast on the way back home. Some goods was too light to replace the rocks under the line of water and because o that they had to use different ships to transport different goods. It was a problem of mass+volume+ and design. The game is not wrong.

You misspelled the title for this clip.

What isn't thematic is the fact that one ship cannot carry any other type of goods... goods are goods and any ship can carry any good.
i've played this game and it's really genius. it´s already one of my favorites
looks very cool.
This game sounds a bit like a more advanced version of Ostindiska Kompaniet (east indian company).
Sounds like fun!
A shipping game that doesn't require spreadsheets and accounting skills? Ridiculous! :D
