I talk a lot about anime in this video. Obviously, manga is the root of those shows and this one. Also, I’m going to reiterate here that I forgot to mute my desktop audio while recording my reaction to episode 1, which made it impossible to isolate the sound of my voice from that of the show. So, I included whatever I could (because I didn’t want to re-record a reaction or skip episode 1 completely). Furthermore, I'd already seen the first 5 minutes of episode 1.
Lol, it's not that big a deal. If someone has a problem with it than it's on them. Even huge channels have all sort of technical difficulties all the time and as long as it's not a "sorry... it got corrupted so i don't have the reaction anymore" we're good!
I always call Zoro the boat dad because he's always trying to keep everyone alive and he responds with the appropriate amount of enthusiasm for Luffy's art projects 😂
Oh I was like, "why is this all pixelated", but then realized it's 4 minutes old.... sitting here twiddling my thumb until youtube finishes processing it xD
What's lost in translation with the live action Koby, is the japanese trope of "rivalry" in anime/manga being a stronger bond between two characters than direct friendship. Basically, Luffy wouldn't care if Koby "sold him out", because he would want Koby to pursue his dreams even if they would eventually cross paths as enemies. The rivalry trope is very much rooted in japanese work culture and the competitive rivalry between manga creators, at least with the older generations...
I think I did make a reference to Goku and Vegeta because I was sort of thinking about that as well. It is truly a fascinating dynamic, not just in fiction but life - competition brings out the best (and sometimes worst) in us all.
It is basically a samurai concept, not a work culture. Legend has it that two warlords once fought for years, and when one ran out of salt in his territory, the other sent salt (actually, he just sold it for the right price). From this legend, the phrase "sending salt to the enemy" was born. It is the Japanese aesthetic and favorite situation to save one's rivals without taking advantage of their weakness. This legend is based on a military memoir published in the Edo period (published in 1632/10 vols./甲陽軍記) by a vassal of the side to which salt was sent. The book became a bestseller and this proverb was born.
The world One Piece takes place on isnt earth, its not even the same size. So its had its own history of technological development, dont think to hard about it lol. The split screen moments are to emulate manga page panels, since this adaptation follows events in the manga, not the anime. The OP author Oda, explained, devil fruits also effect things on the person like clothes etc, so to avoid people being naked constantly and Buggy his fave character, parts seal up when he splits up, so as to not draw him bleeding everywhere. He also thinks of Nami as the big sister of the crew.
You could think of it as a narrative convenience that Luffy never rips his clothes when he hulks out, but Oda's thought that through to a certain extent. Luffy rarely wears constricting sleeves or jeans so his arms and legs can stretch freely. And Buggy always has some kind of striped shirt on, both hinting at his power and splitting his clothes visually.
Yeah, I was surprised about the whole "bigger planet" thing. I've never looked up specifics, but I've heard people claim it's roughly the size of a small start or something like that. Not to mention it has multiple moons that can sustain life and all other kinds of crazy sh*t we hardly ever see outside of side stories that were never put in the anime. Oda created a wild world that's really cool, but also completely insane and I wouldn't want to live there unless I was fortunate enough to eat a really OP Devil Fruit right away.
Reached the 5:55 mark and i'm here to answer, i grew up with One piece and being able to watch it in live action form was really a dream. I'm 28 and i cried like a kid the whole thing
Oh damn, I never made the connection of Nami dressing like Popeye. And Popeye being a sailor, and Nami's mom being a marine..that makes perfect sense..thank you. I know you have completed this whole season, thats why I said it all.
Interesting sidenote: The Latin-ish word 'companion', was a translation of a Germanic word 'gahlaibaz', "with + bread", meaning someone you shared bread with, who was now your friend/companion. It's a very honorable concept.
The sea monster tears off Shanks' arm in the first attack after he saves Luffy. And Shanks is there because he arrived with his own boat. The bandit's was destroyed when the monster threw its occupants into the sea.
Something Ive seen people do to make due with bad audio (like outdoor footage with loud wind etc) is adding subtitles to what you're saying (that can be a lot of work though)
I did consider that... but I would've had to do it manually and, yeah, would've taken forever. I'm just focused on never letting this sort of thing happen again lol. Apologies.
Luffy :- Who said pirates have to be scary.. and even you felt :- Myths, Legends, or the history books. Well, Oda wrote his author note regarding this story, of how he was interested in pirates, but felt like there was no mention of Fun in it, as they were having so much fun that they never bothered to write about it. Thats why Oda tried to change the perspective of pirates by this funny epic story.
About the sunglasses, not existing. It’s good to remember that One Piece takes place in a fantasy world. There’s a lot of different technology and creatures and clothes that you might not expect from our own Pirate age.
I went watching this utterly blind, too, I hadn't touched either the manga nor the anime. I was well aware of it, but just didn't really like the visual style so I decided to pass. Glad I gave this a shot though, and actually watched it with my old mother (she has Netflix subscription, I don't anymore, we watch stuff together, everyone wins) and surprisingly enough we both ended up loving it! Not enough for me to tackle the manga or anime, though. I'll stick to this, but from what little I knew and had seen the casting felt perfect! Too bad about the first episode bit of your recording, but it wasn't THAT bad and hey, live and learn. Going to the next part now, thanks for sharing!
I've been following Taika Waititi and Rhys Darby since What We Do in the Shadows - I was all over Our Flag Means Death when it came out. Cuz also, pirates.
Just some clarification (arguably minor spoilers, but I'm comfortable sharing it) "The One Piece" is a tangible object that is included in the former pirate king's treasure. When Luffy said "All in one piece," it was probably just referring to how all the treasure is located in the same place.

@Saphthings thanks! That makes me feel better.

Hahaha

Lol yeah. I always debate whether or not to just keep it private until it finishes.

You were the first to release this season in batch of 3, 2 and 3. Nicely done. On to the next batch.
The opening title card gave us goosebumps with the perfect music as support.
“It was the avocado” Yes! The original devil fruit :D
”A wizard?” 😂👌

Dude you had me cackling in the first 2 mins 😂😂😂
Just started watching, but your smile reminds me of the way Shanks smiles in this live action, and it just makes me smile too. :D

Fellow, I just subscribed right now. I really liked your reaction.

Not every situation can be solved with violence... But clearly some situations _are._ XDDD
absolute tears of pure joy.
The real Joker inspired will appear later on and you will notice real quick and the drip 🔥🔥🔥
I knew this was an Anime but nothing else about it and it has been a lot of fun to watch
