There is a reason you can't just sail into the Grand Line directly, but it hasn't been explained yet. I will say that if you carefully look at the map from the safe, there's a hint as to why, although it won't fully explain it.
A fun fact: the Grand Line itself is also not the equator of the One Piece world despite how Nami drew it. It's like at a 45 degree angle relative to the equator instead.

According to Oda, the world of OP is the same size as our Sun. So the Grandline's not just that thin line, its freaking huge . It contains countless islands. Each of them is the size of a country.
The Grandline is sandwiched on both sides by the Calm Belts, the Calm Belts are huge too. You saw that sea monster in this episode, right? all those monsters are called Sea Kings (they have all kinds of appearence, not just that snake like figure) in the anime. The one in this episode is just a baby. Sea Kings usually have the size of a mountain. The Calm Belts are home of these things so you can't just sail straight through, plus the Calm Belts have no wind.
Only the Marine has a method to go freely through the Calm Belts. The map here shows you another safe way (not actually safe but still better than the Calm Belts) to the Grandline through the Redline, thats why its valuable.
    Hope this helps 😁

FYI on the snail phones. They take the appearance of the owner of the phone. That is why the snail on Morgan's desk has the jaw like him and Garp's has the goatee. More generic phone will have no distinctive details UNTIL someone is speaking on them, then they will take some features of the speaker. So if Garp calls Morgan on a regular snail phone, the phone on Morgan's side will have the features of Garp and it will mimic Garp's voice as well.

The One Piece is merely the mean to Luffy’s goal, the show is actually about his journey to become the pirate king. That’s a ridiculous task once you truly grasp the scale of the world.
Throughout his journey, he topples regimes, frees slaves, liberates nations, and fights in a war against a totalitarian world government. You can actually chart his journey on the map. It’s not just a pirate sailing for treasure.
It’s a shounen and therefore has power scaling, but what’s really special about one piece is that Oda planned the events of the third act from the beginning. Luffy’s true form was actually foreshadowed in the first 200-300 chapters. Nobody caught it back then.

The thing about devil fruit is that each one is unique; no two devil fruits are alike. Like there is only one gum gum fruit in the world, and Luffy ate it. Each devil fruit grants the user a unique ability. However, if you consume more than one devil fruit, you will die. As you stated, sea water weakens the user, and this includes standing water (such as lakes, seas, and oceans) but they can drink normal water. Devil fruits are extremely rare, with only one fruit per million people, making them a treasure which you can sell at a ridiculously high price. Finally, if a devil fruit user dies, the fruit is reborn somewhere in the world for another new user to consume it.

Letting you know that those birds are called News Coo, so yes, they basically just deliver news all over the world.
While they generally don't, Oda says they can be negotiated with to deliver private letters.
Also, bc I'm not certain the series will touch on this, sophisticated mailing/communication systems are pretty much monopolized by the World Government.
So, while yes, there are other type of winged animals that can do private deliveries (and even small private/delivery agencies), there are limitations to them (like lack of access, specified ranges, types of packages, etc.)
For pirates, generally, there even less access to long distance communication, so most goodbyes with them most likely means it'll be a long time before they can communicate with each other again.

Just don't make the mistake some other channels make and watch it in english while usually there's a debate between Dub and Sub for One Piece the Sub is better. the english translation misrepresents scenes and allout makes Luffy unlikable. in an early question corner in the manga volumes (called SBS) the author (Oda) answered the question of how far Luffy could stretch with sth like "72 gum gum" (or "gomu gomu") )
as for the gum gum fruit, the name and class of it are different now, but it's still what it was, fundamentally. There is somewhat of a divide amongst fans because of it, 9 part pro, 1 part against, though I don't have numbers to back that up. My imprression is that most fans are appreciative of the narrative, thematic and in-verse-logic consistency of that "change" / revelation .... I tried to stay abstract. [the funny thing about that Frieza reference at ~36ish, I wrote this before and was just about to type a comparison with Goku, that wouldn't really apply, and then continued watching to immediatedly hear that XD XD]

In regards to the map, there's a few things worth noting. First is that it is a pretty minor on-the-way thing in the original material that the live action used as a more major plot point, so its importance is somewhat exaggerated from a navigating perspective. Which is not to say that it doesn't have its uses; just that the only truly relevant part ('how to reach the grand line') is relatively widespread knowledge among pirates whereas the actual map and Grand Line parts aren't that useful for pirates due to the unique nature of the world in question.
In terms of the live action, the primary value seems to be that it also lists Marine strongholds and deployments on the East Blue sea, showing pirates what areas to avoid or potentially take on if they want to fight the Marines. Both Buggy and Arlong consider themselves the biggest fish in the East Blue, after all.
In terms of actual worldbuilding plot, there are two important parts are make the Grand Line itself very special and unlike our world. First is that the magnetic field gets rather screwy, turning ordinary compasses useless for navigation. Second is that the band of ocean called the Grand Line (that is not quite an equator because the world itself is tilted) is flanked on both sides by areas of the sea referred to as the Calm Belt. The Calm Belt has two very unpractical problems about it that prevent ships from crossing it: first is that the sea is calm: the water is still and no wind blows there, causing ships to be stranded. Fine, so maybe people could paddle across... except for the fact that this strip of sea also serves as the breeding grounds for those gigantic sea monsters, and they get very territorial when they notice the ships. The Marines (or more accurately World Government) have the technology that makes their hulls not noticeable to these monsters, allowing them to cross the Calm Belt relatively unharmed, but the same doesn't apply for the rest of the world. Ergo, the map is useful for Marines who can cross into the Grand Line wherever they would like, but any other wannabe-Roger is stuck taking the singular path into the Grand Line that avoids these Calm Belts that would lead to their ships utter destruction.

I would love to see both of you reaact to the anime like 2 episodes a week or so after the live action. Ome Piece is essentially the Lord of The Rings for Japan.
Also for timeline purposes I will explain the concept of sagas. Every arc in One Piece is part of a larger saga. An arc is often one specific location like Syrup Village the next location and arc. Sagas are named for the arc that concludes a saga. The Manga and anime will both be in the final saga of the series very soon. So i would estimate we have 4 arcs or so before One Piece ends. I think that would make for around 24 arcs in total.

I see you have 6 eps out here on YT. The community is giving a little too much exposition here, which actually should come from the show eventually. But this is East Blue Saga, many things are left open, but comment section made you understand it a bit early..its all cool though.

One Piece is kind of the friends you made along the way? But at the same time, not really. This first season is basically a tutorial that introduces the most basic of premises, but the author has far grander designs in terms of worldbuilding and storytelling than you can imagine. Think Lord of the Ring / Wheel of Time / Game of Thrones level of worldbuilding and complications. It is a modern epic unique to this generation.
One thing that the author vetoed the producers from doing is any sort of love relationship between the crewmembers. It is not what his story is about and he's not having them introduce it in the live action, either. This is a story about love for adventuring (colloquially referred to as the romance of the dawn, which is what the first chapters title refers to).
Luffy did mention in the first episode that about 10 crew members would do... maybe foreshadowing? Or maybe that is just a feint and he'll end up leading an armada capable of invading entire nations... But would Luffy even want to be that sort of pirate?

One Piece Film Red is not about the Red Line. It is a story that stands relatively free, introducing an adopted daughter of Shanks who has her own dream of being a pop star, associated troubles and tribulations, and that Luffy (and his crew) meets up with for the very first time since he was a little kid. It is almost like a musical, and definitely worth watching.... AFTER catching up on a lot of the story so the presence of crewmates and other information that is common knowledge to people who have seen about a thousand episodes worth of story but still a very spoilery to you. That said, if you do, I'd sooner recommend watching One Piece Strong World, which is the first movie Oda had an active hand in, and perhaps One Piece Film Z (which I consider relatively mediocre because it panders too much to the fans, but it overflows with fresh lore of the canon kind so I can't ignore it)... but again, even those are movies that should only be watched once you are far enough into the story, which is resp. ep. 420ish and ep. 575ish. The other dozen movies are very hit or miss; many are cashcow trash but there are also a couple of gems I greatly adore among them.. but going into those recommendations could be an essay in its own right so I'll save you and go back to the map topic that I intended to talk about...
Please remember that that the Red Line is an entire band that goes around the world. So if one traversed over the entire encircling band called the Grand Line that is perpendicular to it, one would have to cross that Red Line twice to complete the journey to reach the starting point. With that in mind as well as the fact the map is shown quite often in the credits and once or twice in later episodes, it won't be much of a reveal to say that near the start of season two (probably second episode) will be when the crew runs into the Red Line for the first time.
After that, if comparing it to the anime episodes (very roughly, since I'm not interested in spoiling any details), it would take up to somewhere around the 550th episode before they come face-to-face with the next Red Line and the challenges of crossing it. And at present, the manga/anime are just shy of the 1100 milestone... so that ought to give you some freedom to speculate on whether they'll end up crossing it yet another time.

Why do people feel like they have to watch all 1000 episodes? I just skipped all the early arcs and went straight into Water Seven and Enies Lobby when Oda hit prime as a storyteller.

    • @aComplexName
      @aComplexName 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

Because that is what One Piece is? You don't skip the first two season of a show to get to the third one because that is where a part of the story you like is. A story is meant to be enjoyed. If you don't like the previous arcs, that is fine but I just find it wrong to skip huge arcs with big consequences and importance later on in the story. Also the arcs are just awesome in my personal opinion.

@@Chapa-pa-pa You say prime as if there is a point in One Piece where it peaked. I mean I see what you mean in that the anime of One Piece doesnt really hold a candle to the manga for the most part. Idk to me, you cant enjoy One Piece while skipping out on the adventure of the strawhats even if you go back, it wont be the same as if you read the story normally. But hey you do you and I cant dictate how you like to take in media, I just heavily disagree with the sentiment.

@@Chapa-pa-pa I personally very much enjoyed Skypiea. Its definitely in my top 10 if not top 5. I get that to some, it can be tedious though. I do understand the complaints of the arc based on a first time readers/watchers perspective(mainly watchers because it can definitely be worse in the anime as is most of the show) But I do think going back to it can give you a deeper appreciation of the arc. I'd say when you are caught up, do a reread of One Piece but at a different angle. You might not want to and that is okay too. My favorite arc of One Piece changes all the time. I've read One Piece 3 times and each time I get a new appreciation for different arcs. I'd say my favorite arc atm is WCI. If you aren't caught up, that is a spoiler so don't look that up.
