One Piece Series Description:
One Piece (stylized in all caps) is a fantasy adventure streaming television series developed by Matt Owens and Steven Maeda for Netflix. The series is a live action adaptation of the ongoing 1997 Japanese manga series of the same name by Eiichiro Oda, who himself served as a major creative consultant for the series. It is produced by Kaji Productions, Tomorrow Studios and Shueisha (who also publish the manga). The series stars an ensemble cast including Iñaki Godoy, Emily Rudd, Mackenyu, Jacob Romero Gibson, and Taz Skylar as the initial five members of the Straw Hat Pirates.

I can't imagine having anyone in this world besides Inaki to portray Luffy. He captured the free spirit and joy of Luffy so naturally
And that's just how he is in real life. He got the part because his audition was the only one that made Oda laugh.
I didn’t like him at first, felt he was too laid back and not hyper active for Luffy, but after the second episode I was sold. Hope there’s another season
Sometimes some of the "problems" here are because of the script. It sometimes off... nevertheless, he's still great as luffy!

The actor playing the swordsman Zoro, is the son of legendary famous martial artist and actor, Sonny Chiba whom you may also remember from Kill Bill vol.1 as the man who gives Uma Thurman the sword she uses in the film. And yes it’s him doing his own fighting and most of the stunt work cause he trains in martial arts in real life as well like his father. And Mackenyu (Zoro) is also a very popular actor in Japan mostly known in many live action adaptations animes that are pretty successful

I had no Idea, Sonny Chiba is a legend in Japanese Cinema. If I remember correctly he played the Yakuza OG in Tokyo Drift.

@@jeckjeck3119 I think they had to be careful on season 1 because it might flop like their other Live Action Anime.. but surely they will put more more money on Season 2 since One Piece LA is currently number 1 on the charts.. but I love me some HOTD too, that show is awesome!
I think the best way to explain what they did with this live action is that they kept the main whos, whats and wheres, but changed the hows and whys (in some cases). So, for example, Luffy still ended up on Alvida's ship and saved Coby, but HOW he did it had differences. It's a pretty clever way to adapt something - the main important parts of the story are kept intact, but there are enough changes to make it feel fresh to old fans and leave surprises for new fans to find when they dive into the manga/anime.
And because who a person is is at least partially because of their history, the backstories are almost one-to-one, Sanji's being MORE accurate to the manga than the anime!
i love how despite you not knowing anything about anime you still go all in on the cosplay/outfit aspect of it. your dedication to the craft is highly admirable

Oda the Author always said it over and over again. no romance between crew.
so even after 1000+ chapter/episodes. there are no romance between the strawhats crew.
and he also strictly prohibited Netflix to add romance between the crew in the Live Action.
it's still fine for the crew to have romantic relationship but it's always with someone that is not a part of strawhats pirate

This is one of the best live action adaptations of anything I've ever seen. I love how the wanted poster of each pirate appears on screen only for them to tear it down. I'll admit when they broke the curse, I cried a little. Also, Buggy was perfectly cast.
There's a lot more good anime live actions that are better than this, though i really enjoyed this one myself.

The creator of one piece, Oda did say that inaki ( luffy actor) was the only one that made him laugh out of everyone who auditioned for the role of luffy. So I’d say yes , inaki did amazingly as luffy!

I love Rorono Zoa because he is the sort of serious badass who has never lost his cool even once until he ran until Luffy, at which point it became a daily thing.

Never seen the animae before but I have to say I love this show. Luffy's optimism is so different to what I've been seeing from the usual "broken character" trope in other hero shows. He's so infectious

To answer your question: No, this is not an exact adaptation. It’s based off the manga, but there are a lot of smaller storylines that don’t really play much of a role, so they left those out, and I’m pretty happy about it. This series in general is one of the most inclusive anime/manga out there.
All of the other things your mentioned; white hair, X scar, black arms, etc… That is all several seasons away, depending on how they do this. I’m on episode 1075. It’s commitment but it’s worth it.

I understand that One Piece can be found in both ANIME and MANGA styles. I have NOT watched a single episodes in either of the formats, but the Live-Action series are truly well made, entertaining, and definitely designed to want to make you want more! I know there are more characters to meet, but right now, L U F F Y has gotten my vote. The kid is A M A Z I N G‼

Okay, something to note (not a spoiler) so when people eat a devil fruit, they gain the ability of the devil fruit (aka gum gum fruit makes luffy stretchy and chop chop fruit makes buggy able to cut his body parts) HOWEVER, they lose their ability to swim. Once you eat a devil fruit you can not lose its power, it’s completely permanent as well as their inability to swim (you can’t try to practice or anything, the water makes them somewhat paralyzed so they can’t even move- if they were a good swimmer before the devil fruit, they will lose the ability to swim). SO that means if someone has a ‘power’ and can swim- *it’s not a devil fruit*….(won’t say anymore because it’s a spoiler-) ALSO, IM GLAD YOUR WATCHING THIS YOULL LOVE IT ❤❤❤

Gotta take note of the fact that this is portraying an anime accurately so when you see corny scenes or goofy scenes, just remember it would make sense/work in the anime

Your reactions to things like Luffy stretching and Buggy's head coming off are so fun!
This show led me to give the anime another shot. (I only watched 125 episodes the first time I tried it.) As I watch the anime, I realize just how rich this live-action adaption is. They didn't have the time to feature certain characters and subplots-so instead, they hint at them. For example, the guy holding up the "applause" sign has a notable fight scene in the anime. They didn't include that scene in the live action, but they did include him and his memorable headgear.
The scene they used to introduce Zoro? It's canon-ish, but from what I've heard, it takes place before the events of the anime, and it isn't portrayed on screen (or on the original manga's pages). It sounds like deeper lore.
Then there's the way they handled the major plot lines... as a writer, I'm very impressed. They didn't simply condense 45 episodes into 8. It's more complex and skillful than that-and they drew from things beyond those 45 episodes, taking full advantage of that fact that the mangaka, Oda, has figured out and fleshed out things that he probably didn't have figured out back in 1997. Some plot points are exactly what's in the original. Others keep the essence of the original, but are majorly adapted (the Buggy fight is a significant example). And so on. I know Oda was very involved in this show's creation, and that helped. But still... wow.
Babbling on about this stuff in reactors' comment section because I don't have enough people to talk about it with irl. And I'm babbling in this particular comment section because it makes me happy when a channel I already follow and enjoy covers the show I'm currently most excited about. ^_^
One Piece is the greatest story ever told. It's so amazing seeing the live action bring in people who would otherwise never get into it.
To answer your question as to why he didn't just take Alvida's ship:
Alvida broke the helm during the fight with Luffy and set the whole ship on fire.
Last thing you want when on the open ocean is be on a burning ship with no way to steer it.
Also, the crew isn't exactly loyal to Luffy. They'll probably go on mutiny even if they put out the fire anyway.
This show has the potential to be just as good as the Rurouni Kenshin live action movies if not better! Can't wait to see season 2!

I'm not a fan of One piece but when I watched the Live Action on NETFLIX, I found out why ONE PIECE is so great! I was so amazed by the story, the effects, designs, scriptwriters, Directors, crew members and all the casts especially IÑAKI as LUFFY! I suddenly fell inlove and became an instant fan of him! He's so silly but he's a GOOD FRIEND and a heartwarming person.

The Japanese audio version is great because it has the anime voice actors reprising their roles for it. The English dub is quite good too as most nailed the vibe of their characters, especially Luffy (main weak point being the child actor).
In German they put in the german anime voice actor to. Made it perfect for a fan

To answer your first question, i did like the actor who plays Luffy. At first it took me a minute to get used to him. But honestly he won me over by the end of the first episode. I woud say the live action is a solid 8.5/10 to me. Not bad at all. I liked it alot. I just hope they are able to capture the same feeling for season 2. I don't expect all the arcs to be covered, but as long as they give me something that respects the source material, i will be more willing to continue watching 😊

Oh I (fan of One Piece manga for 10+ years) Love Iñaki Godoy's performance as Luffy, everything (including Luffy's character ) is slightly altered for the Live action but I love the vibe of it, it gives me the same joy.

This series was supervised by the creator of One Piece and that's the biggest difference from previous failures in live-action series. This show follows the story pretty close to the original, of course, there are some changes as they had to compress 50-60 episodes of the anime into 8 live-action episodes.
As a One Piece fan since 2009, this show is great, the music is great, the performances of the actors get better and better, and even the changes that they made to compress the overwhelming amount of the content are working really well, you can instantly understand that this show was made with care and love.

One Piece fan here to answer your question: Yes, I very much liked his performance as Luffy, he nails his core and is pretty much how I would imagine Luffy in real life to be. =)

As a fan of the anime since 2003, the casting was spot on! Inaki truly captured Luffy's spirit and really made it his own. The anime is already over a 1000 episodes long and struggles with pacing, we dont need a live action of that XD
You can really tell the creators are fans of the anime because even though the story is so different from the original one, the story the live action brings is just refreshing new take on the same story. It truly feels like the same story but told from a different perspective. For example in episode 2 the mayor of the village (offers the breads) has way bigger part in anime. Same as the dog you can see at the end of ep 2 running midst of people, he has a heartbreaking story. Even tho their stories could not fit the live action, they are not removed from this story.

Iñaki Godoy (Luffy) is a Mexican guy that even went to meet the voice actress in Japan, and the creator.
Eiichro Oda said he wouldn't let it go out if he didn't approve it, that is why it seems like you are watching the anime but with people. The music made me feel like "Pirates Of The Caribbean" it really is what we know of pirates movies

One Piece is my favorite series of all time, I’ve reread it all a couple times, certain arcs even more, and watched most of the anime, and man I really enjoyed this adaptation. It’s not without its faults (especially some questionable narrative decisions made later in the season) but the actors all really nail their roles, and the production team killed it with the sets and costumes. I’m really stoked for season 2, and can’t wait to see what you think!

This is a fantastic Live Action adaptation of anime which was made for fans by fans (which as a lot of Easter eggs) & the creator himself Eiichiro Oda who made the manga in 1997 & still growing strong to this day following the adventure of Luffy & his crew but it’s is not 1 to 1 to the source material (anime started in 1999), & here are a few facts (no spoilers)
- The bird he is talking to are called News Coos which are birds that deliver mail or newspapers around the world
- The snail you see are called Den Den Mushi / Transponder Snails which a telepathic snails that people use for communications
- The giant sea serpent are called Sea Kings which are powerful creatures in this world & this one is called the Lord of the Coast
- Devil Fruits are strange fruits that grant the user powers unique to only themselves with just one bite, but once bitten they will forever be cursed by the sea where they can no longer swim & any large body of water (around the level of you knee) will weaken them
- Luffy ate the Gomu Gomu no mi (Gomu means rubber) / Gum-Gum Fruit while Buggy ate the Bara Bara no mi (Barabara is a Japanese onomatopoeia meaning disconnected) / Chop-Chop Fruit
- Berries are this world’s currency which Oda based it on Yen which makes Berry = Yen = $

One Piece can be very wacky, and this live action is definitely one of the craziest things ive ever seen invisioned, but everyone involved really put their passion into it. There’s absolutely NO romance between the straw hat crew and Oda has stated that there never will be because they’re all in love with adventure 😂 but arguably they all do still love one another a lot. The whole lot are ride or die for each other.
To dip your toes into anime, I would start with Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood. Specifically the English dub is incredible. It has action, comedy, heart, a fabulous story to tell and it's packed into 64 manageable episodes
Yes! English Dub FMA:Brotherhood is honestly a GOAT-tier anime experience! An absolute must-watch!
FMA is my go-to for getting people into anime. The magic system is strict enough and the story paced well-enough that it doesn't feel too different from like the LotR style movies or such.
And it's dark enough to break people of the thought that anime = kid show.

Nobody knows what the One-Piece is, i like to think it's both a massive treasure and something exclusively there that you can share with your crew to enjoy and you all and the audience can look back on the adventure. Devil Fruits can come in various thing, theres 3 specific kinds but i won't say so you can experience it, but anything you can imagine a Devil Fruit can probably give you the powers to do it. But it takes away your ability to swim and sea water doesn't let you use them while you're submerged. The black stuff on his hands is something that comes later. And the snails are like psychic phones that psychicly communicate to other ones around the world since phones don't exist
I believe one of the explicit conditions of the creator for making this show was no romances among the crew.

The scar on luffy’s chest is something he never wanted to earn. No spoilers but it’s a touchy subject and a reminder of his lose.
They focused much on Buggy but also Kabaji its a great fighter too but they cut the part that he fight with zoro and they removed also Richie the giant lion (the white fur dude it Mohji the lion tamer but they just included him as an fanservice appearance)
Also the dog that appeared with the mayor around 39:50 its Chouchou, he has a story too in this arc but was cut.

Yes. 100% yes. Iñaki Godoy might not look exactly like Luffy, but I doubt there’s any person on the planet who could more perfectly embody Luffy’s energy. 🙏

It’s fine enough as long as you get the Funimation run instead of the 4Kids run. Not better than the subtitled version in most people’s opinion, but it works as it’s own production if you don’t have any attachment to the Japanese voice actors. The lady who’s been playing Luffy in Japanese for years and years is a whole riot and a half though. She’s clearly enjoying the show just as much as any of the fans. 😛

That’s Jeff Ward. He’s mostly been a spot actor in a bunch of different productions, but you may recognize him from his recurring role as Deke Shaw in Agents of SHIELD.

That’s called a transponder snail. They’re telepathic snails that are basically this world’s version of telephones along with a few other devices we haven’t seen yet in this run. It has a metal jaw because each one takes on the features of its primary user.
I’m pretty sure the 4kids dub is lost media at this point, or at least very hard to find. I don’t think he’s in much danger of watching it by accident

After discovering that the Japanese dubs were voiced by the original anime voice actors, I decided to test it out on my favorite Sanji episode. I couldn't help but notice that the Japanese voice actor conveyed a more emotional depth than the live-action Western actor.

That be coming more so from a bias standpoint albeit not on purpose.
They both equally convey the emotion needed for the scenes. The difference being in you already being used to Sanjis OG voice so his emotion conveys better to you because it's what you're used to.
@@NationalRunescape There's no bias here. I have yet to watch a single episode of the One Piece anime. My interest in the live-action series stemmed from its reputation for staying faithful to the original manga in spirit and theme. I wasn't aware that it featured the original anime cast, either. I observed how the voice actor had to skillfully convey the nuances in his voice to capture the required emotion of the scene. The particular scene I spoke of was not the farewell boat scene but when they were stuck on the rock.

After reading, the only thing I think I didn't appreciate as much after rewatching is that Luffy wasn't as powerful as he is in the mangá by the beginning of it. Idk if it was a choice made to make his character grow, although I think he gets better as the manga goes so (???) But they made him lose much more in the show than he did in the mangá. And he's more blunt/sassy as well in the mangá, like he lowkey a menace 😭😭😭

Well... It's only fair that you give One Piece (The anime) a chance if you like the series hehe. I think Jujutsu Kaisen and Demon Slayer would be a good start, people trying to get into anime tend to like this two.
