I have this as well. What I do instead of wood is get those small candles that burn for 4h. Then I that a small but long strip of cardboard. I melt all the wax in the candle and then put the cardboard into it in a tight spiral. I let the wax cool and there u have it!! Hope this helps and I love ur vids :)
Yes I teach that method to the Boy Scouts to make fire starters out of newspaper and rolled up cardboard in tuna fish cans and pour in hot wax to make a Sterno style fuel cans for hobo style cooking. That is a great point to bring up for people who have this stove. I'm glad you like the video. Thanks
It's a nice little stove and very strong it works great with my vintage #3 Griswold cast iron pan. I use the arrow shaft a lot with all my stoves it make using wood super easy. Thanks
Back again watching. Your broken arrow flame blower works well. I just used my stove to make hotdogs and beans, however I didn't want to mess with cutting fuel so I just used popsicle sticks and bamboo skewers broken up from the 99C store. Worked well. Next time I get Chinese, I'm gonna ask for extra chopsticks.
The "Bushbox Ultralight" is much easier to use, and weighs 5g less - but this little "EDCbox" fits inside a round tin for pipe tobacco (10,5cm diameter, and 2,7cm tall). This small tin contains ALL i need to boil water for 1 cup of coffee (im using the actual tin as the cooking pot, and the "Aeropress Go" for brewing and filtering the coffee). The lid of this tin is great for putting the EDCbox on, to protect the ground from the heat. I also keep my Exotac "NanoSpark" flint lighter (which is surprisingly good) in this tin, and in the compartment inside the NanoSpark i have a DIY "permanent match". Next to the NanoSpark i keep a small container with fuel for alcohol stoves (for the permanent match), and a small box that contains various firestarters, a tealight (the tealight tin can be used as an alcohol stove for the EDCbox), some spare flints for the NanoSpark, and a small button compass. I also have a Leatherman Wave that can be used to lift the tin off the stove, and for preparing wood for the stove. I hear you guys... Q: "Why dont you just use a bigger stove and pot?" A: "Because this fits in my 3 liter "Evoc CC Race 3" hydration backpack, while still giving room for the 2 liter waterbladder + various essential gear" Q: "But why dont you just use a regular sized daypack?" A: "Because this hydration pack is extremely comfortable, and sits really close to the back, which gives me ultimate agility while hiking in terrain. It also have enough room for both my 2L hydration bladder, the BeFree waterfilter (empty), some nuts/energy bars, Arcteryx "Incendo SL" (tiny jacket), flashlight, GPS, map and compass, first aid kit, 10ml bottle of disinfectant, 10ml bottle of baby oil (for footcare), and EITHER some sandwiches OR this cookset + Aeropress Go + small bottle of fuel for alcohol stoves." Really nice setup for short to medium range dayhikes 👍
Ya it's a cool little stove. I like to use a stove with a 3''x3'' burn chamber like the bushbox stove for my primary stove when hiking around. I think this little EDCbox stove needs to be masterd before one depends on it in the woods. Thanks
I really enjoyed your video, I was thinking about getting this lil box and I think you sold me. I wonder though, how much time did it take for you to cook that meal?
Don't waste your money, build yourself a Fancy Feast stove or buy an ALOCS stove off eBay and buy a cheap but we'll made Sterno stove stand and U will have a much better setup!
+Beards and Branches Thanks for a reply, i am just now getting back into Hiking & camping again, so the need for Stoves and accessories are there, so I've been checking out all the new videos i can, since it's been a few years, and I just don't pay attention to the dates on the Vids, I checked out the nano online and it looks to be a pretty good one for wood and Alcohol stoves, I just bought a Sterno Stove at Walmart today, it's a Silver colored one, not the dark green one, they sell both, it's very similar in many ways to the nano, and folds up nearly the same, and I've seen some vids here on it, that with a cheap mod or 2 can be improved upon even further, I have not tested it out yet, but it looks good, and it was $5.97 and seems very solid and not too heavy, check it out on some of the vids here, if your not familiar with it, it's a Sterno Stove, there are at least 3 or so really good vids here on it., thanks and take care.
Yes this is a very small stove only 1 1/2'' x 1 1/2'' solid fuel works great for this. For me I love to use wood in my stoves it's part of the fun. Thank
This meal screams out for some fried taters, oh, and a windscreen. I just got one of these little stoves today, and am gonna try it this eve with Esbit tabs or similar.
If you haven't already...you should take a look at Firebox Nano stove! I think you'd find it very useful. It can utilize many different sources of fuel: wood, charcoal, alcohol stoves, and tablets. Quite a versatile stove and folds up quite compact. One piece as well!!! www.fireboxstove.com/index.php?route=common/home
I don't care for this stove setup, the pan is not close to being centered and. Having even cooking and it looks unsteady, there are much better and. Cheaper options!
No Grey Poupon? Barbarian! Joking aside, great video. I've been using fuel tablet stoves for 40+ years and I'm in the market for a stove that is small, very light, burns fuel tablets very well, but allows me to add wood if I have the time/inclination. So far everything I've looked at has been a fail...too heavy mostly, but also they don't burn fuel tablets worth a damn, poor pot stability, etc. this one looks like it might actually work.
Hi, no not everyday carry. I will carry my #3 or #5 cast iron pan if I am car camping, canoeing, ice fishing, with the boy scouts, or walking a short distance like to the other end of a field. What I carry is a steel 6'' Jacob Bromwel frontier frying pan and a stainless steel 475ml Stowaway Pot. Thanks
wonderful little stove!!! I like your creative solutions!
Very cool alternative to the original firebox type stove
thanks a lot for the tips; i learned a lot from this video.

I guess it works ok, but I think I'd rather have the next size up. Clever usefull idea with the wire!

A Choke Hazard stove fits perfectly in the BB EDC, if you want to use alcohol as fuel.
This video really makes me want to get one now. Seeing that it is capable of actually making some food. Great job!

You are good, man I liked the idea

Nice demo, lunch looks tasty. Sharp blade on that knife too.
I plan on using this as my primary stove but with esbit tables or fuel gel cool video.

+Rspene smit Appreciate your suggestions, but since this was 9 months ago, I bought a fire box nano and pretty happy with it.

👍🏻
Hi. I got this stove out of Germany from Bushcraft-Essentails at the same time I ordered my Bushbox stove. It is made of stainless steel . Thanks

HI- It took about 25 minutes. Thanks
And forgot to add. The modified candle fits very snug in the EDCbox stove

What a pain in the neck to keep this stove going.
the trick is to use a micro spirit burner with meths

You every day carry a cast iron skillet? That's not criticism.. just well.. it's the opposite idea of having a small portable stove.

If your going to carry that big pan, then why not a bigger better stove an stand to better match it!
