I'm glad to see another bushcrafter using a Griswold No3 pan. I absolutely love mine. The Griswold is lighter than a Lodge and works so well. Man you made me hungry lol.
You made a wise choice. I think the Emberlit Stainless Steel is what you are looking for but it depends on you needs. I carry the Emberlit Titanium Mini, one in my hunting day bag, one in my backpack and one in my other day..seriously! All the stick stove made today seems to be made of good quality some easier to operate them others its just a persons skill level to operate them. You being new at this Emberlit is a good place to start. Good luck let me now how you like it. Thanks
Great video - I'm starving watching it :-) - Just a tip if you want the eggs cooked without turning them over- simply cover the pan with a similar sized metal bowl/dish for say 10 seconds and you have perfectly cooked eggs
Yes - I got it from Germany from bushcraft-essentials I used Paypal. There site is in German. I orded by lookin at the pictures and crossed my fingers! I got it in 7 days. They were very helpful and answered all my questions. Just a heads up Firebox stove just came out with a new stove as well. The Nano. Thanks
I'm sorry to hear that. Try using a mix of small pieces of dry pine and hard wood with out the bark on them from the top. After you get a fire going then use the side feed with longer 1/2'' thick dry wood with out the bark on them. When using the side feed you still need to use the top feed off and on. Don't give up, I know you can do it. Thanks
Never thought to cook eggs on cast iron. Had to give it a try after watching. Now my daughters can't stop eating those perfect "over easy eggs" it produces. Great video and Happy Holidays.
Yes cast iron absorbs and radiates the heat very well with very little wood fuel. I love to cook with cast iron. I'm happy your daughters are enjoying it. I use my little wood stoves about 5-6 times a week when I'm done cooking my kids come out of nowhere and eat all my food. Thanks and Happy Holidays
treepusherNH I try to cook on cast iron, but everything sticks to it. I've seasoned it repeatedly, but the food still sticks. Hm... I guess I'll just keep trying. Cheers. --Scott
As I'm sure you know the rule of thumb when cooking with wood is you boil water with a flame and you cook with coals. But with these little wood stove it's hard to keep an even bed of coals for very long, and you need to add wood to keep your coal bed which makes flame and makes the food stick and burn. So with that said try this. Oil your pan, put in a hamburger but instead of cooking it just try to warm it up with very low heat, and keep moving it back and forth so it does not stick to the pan. If the food starts to stick just keep moving the pan of the heat. I hope this is helpful. Thanks
treepusherNH Thanks! I'll give that a try. Unfortunately, out here in So. Cal., we're experiencing high fire danger... so until we get some more rain, it's illegal to have a fire in the forest. But as soon as the ban is lifted, I'll give it a try. Happy New Year!
I konw but I have been using a metal spatula for so long I just can't stop. I glad you liked the video I hope to have a new one up soon, Thanks for the comment.
Yes I use a stainless steel bowl in the kitchen time to time when making a burger with bacon and cheese on a cast iron skillet works well. Thanks for the tip.
I like your channel it's like cooking and bushcraft mixed with gear reviews all in one, I'm subbing. Can you do a video on your knives? They look high quality judging from how you cut your fire wood.
you all probably dont care at all but does anyone know a way to get back into an Instagram account..? I was stupid lost the login password. I would appreciate any tips you can offer me!
@Kendall Augustine I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site thru google and I'm in the hacking process now. Takes a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Oh . . . you didn't do that to us, did you? We HAVE to see you take a bite of your breakfast! That's the TH-cam rule . . . "If you cook it, we have to see you eat it". Great video. Thanks.
This is only my opinion. These are small 3''X3'' light weight stoves for the backpack type uses with a light weight pans like titanium/stainless. Car camping or at home I would only use a #3 or #5 cast iron pan. A #3 is 6 1/2'' across the top and the #5 is 8'' across. When you use the Bushbox with the pan trivsts in th high position thay are only 1 3/8'' apart making the pan a little tippy. I do not own a Nano yet but I would think it would be my choice. Also check out the Emberlit stove 39.99
Lazy soul that I am, there's no way I'm going to waste a second splitting wood to fit in my EDC Bushbox stove. For 1.98, I can get a decent sized bag of popsicle sticks and a similar sized bag of bamboo skewers from the 99 Cent Store and break them in half and use those for firewood instead. Works fine.
That's a vintage Griswold #3 cast iron skillet (6.5" in dia.). You can find them on eBay or through antique dealers. I bought mine through thepan-handler.com It's relatively light-weight for cast iron. A wonderful cooking experience! Absolutely, the best skillet ever made!
Hi, another UK viewer here enjoying your video about cooking a great breakfast on the Bushbox stove. I love a good fried breakfast.
