Just wanted to add that it's not only safer to use a sharp knife (and keep them sharp), it's also a lot more fun! And it's just easier on your hands because you don't have to work as hard to make your cuts.
Second thing: I think the key with leather finger guards is getting them in a size that fits your fingers well. I got some from Treeline that work and feel great. They sell them in small, medium, and large sizes, and the elastic is wide and stretchy. If you know how to sew, it will be easy enough to replace the elastic if it wears out or loses resilience, too.

Great video and Subbed! I'll be watching the others as well since I've only started whittling about a year ago. Keep up the good work!

Im not a fan of the tape either. I have the gloves with the rubber and they leave a very slight grey hue to the project. My next pair will be uncoated.

Oof I haven't had that gloves with that grip, but that would be a bummer for sure.

I'm here after a big laceration on my first day carving yesterday. Discouraging but I will heal up and take every safety measure next time.

Wearing a cut-resistant glove is a great choice, especially if you're new to using knives this way.

@@Malakith thanks for the tip, I'll definitely be getting a pair before I start anything else

Ouch, I feel your pain. It sure is easy to do! Glad it hasn't put you off, though!

Not a whittler, but it sounds like the leather finger guards used in needle felting, instead of the tape wrap, would be a nice re-usable solution?

I wear the glove ...I have done some nasty damage through the glove ....my advice is to bleed out for a minute or two to stop infection.....wrap it up ......have a beer .....get back to whittling 👍🍺🍺🍺

Right hand never in danger?! Then shows technique that puts right thumb in danger?! Not dangerous, because you do it in a very controlled way? You have NO IDEA about safety, sir, and the least you could do for the good of people would be deleting this video. Please. Thank you.
