- Here I talk about my two Espada XLs. I love these folders. Big, beefy, tri-ad locked, pocket swords.

I bought the G10 Espada XL, for one reason. Self Defense, I hope I never need it, but I'm glad I have it. Plus the G10 being dark colored, blends in with the jeans I wear. It just makes me feel good to have it on me.
I just got another one of the G10’s for a total of three - figured everyone in my family should all have one because why not.
I dont care who says what but in my opinion there can never be too many Espada XLs in the world. My absolute favorite knife I've never owned. But I will one day..one day. Outstandingly killer vid knife bro&I kno I ain't gotta say it cuz it's so obvious but KILLER BLADE!!
I have had the polished version for one week now, can't stop touching it, impressive is not good enough to describe it

I felt the same way when I hit puberty.
Get BOTH.....Awesome knives. Polished is getn discontinued too, so get now or youll miss out one day.
I have both, I use the G-10 as my beater in the woods and polished for the street... Get a tub of chrome polish, I use it to buff mine off and bring it back to a spiffy m mirror periodically...
bought the G10 version today,it will turn up in the mail and not soon enough as usual. They never seem to do that when you wait on something cool(not the fastest postal service in Norway). subbed,thumbs up, great vid.
I like how you called out not trying to be cool with the one handed closing, these are weapons and should be treated with respect the same at firearms

I like the part when you say it’s a nice little knife 😂😂😂 it’s nice they make a more affordable one. Either way I would get the G-10 version. Looking forward to purchasing this beauty. Thanks for the great video 👍
I'll take the "leave me alone" any day. Plus weighs slightly less and amazing grip.
The original shiny one is much more intimidating due to its glare. But that also makes it harder to conceal. The G10 is going to be a little better if you actually have to use it, but it might be a bit harder for an assailant to see just how big it is, and the ideal situation is for them to run away so you don't have to use it. Another ding on the shiny one is the price. It used to be AUS-8A. Yeah, it was still expensive, but the S35VN ones are basically just art pieces to hang on the wall. You don't want to lose it (for example, a grouchy cop might notoce the glare off your pocket and confiscate it).
I agree!!! My polished one is for show. I di carry the G10 one because it does blend better
I just ordered the "leave me alone" piece. Easier on the pocket AND, I really like the way it looks! Either one though, is excellent!
Very good choice!!! Surprisingly it goes right in the pocket and doesnt take up much room despite its size! I dont know how they managed that, but I am glad! Also practice the wave feature safely. Its quite fun and satisfying!
I have the large model. Which I like more then the xl. You really lose thing. But you gain more usability. Plus the large is very pocket-able.
Also I'm lefthanded so I personally like the G10 better. Mine is cts-xhp
Really the biggest pocket knife I carry is the rahja2
Of course I'm 5'7 my pockets aren't as deep as 6'5 even if you had skinny jeans. Lol
Gotta say those polished aluminum bolsters are beautiful.
But G10 is the way to go
The large is a very good knife! I don't have one...yet.... I agree the polished looks amazing, but the G10 is the way to go for carry. However, I do have deep carry pockets and the XL doesn't bother me at all. That Rahja 2 is a pretty big knife too!
The polished Espada is for right hand use only. There's no mounting on the left side for a pocket clip. So if you're a lefty get the large in G10
I'm 5' 10" and it feel natural to me too!
This in a sheath on the belt & a Voyager drop point Large plus a range boss I don't think you can go wrong.
one is a work knife and the other is a BBQ/Church knife for special occasions.... both are very nice...
I would love to pull this out at a BBQ!!!! That would be amazing!
If you tried to open or close this one handed that would be an injury you'd never want. Cold Steel for the Self Defense win. Dark alley fights..
Nonsense I only use my left hand. My right hand is disabled and I don't have any problem using my Espada.

I meant to add something you can get a voyager for a lot cheaper. And by a snaggletooth LLC wave opener. I have three of those as well. They're cheaper but they're built like a tank just as the Espada is.
Oh yes! I have a Viyager as well and it really is a tank. Easier to carry than Espada for most too! The snaggletooth is a great idea!
@@Mattisfaction I think I paid $22 for an aluminum version. I didn't want the plastic one. But he makes them for left-hand and right-hand use. If you don't have one you should try one they're very good.
I bought the G10 XL recently and sent it back due to the garbage that GSM has made the G10 XL into with blade play and blade centering. I just bought a Large Polished in S35VN in hopes they haven't screwed that one up as well. I hope 3/23/22 I am not disappointed. I did break a spring on a Rajah 2 [4months ago just wrist flicking ] that I had to send back and abused a Spartan which is 6 months old and hardy as hell. I repurchased the Rajah 2 [ no problems so far]. I really love Cold Steel but after GSM buy out we maybe getting disappointed.... I chopped and baton with Spartan and Rajah 2 [newest] with no probs with the AUS10. Great review and they are pocket magic...

I've bought a few knives from Cold Steel, since GSM has taken them over. Including the Espada XL in G10. No problems what so ever. I did have to tighten the pivot screw a tad, which meant buying s Torx bit kit, which I needed any ways. As for centering, looks good to me. It opens and closes just fine. You realize, they are still being made in the same factory, back when Lynn Thompson owned Cold Steel? So one slipped through quality control. It happens.
Well I am a fan of the G10 it is so grippy when new. That said it does wear considerably if you carry the knife in a pocket. Within a year the handle resembles its new grippyness but little. Now the polished blade is beautiful but unfortunately they chose Nickel bolsters and it is so soft it scratches up real bad if carried.
You better show how it penetrates biomaterial.

I got the same G10 version, and I love it! I want to do just like you and buy the pretty version so I don't feel bad actually using this one. The premium version is just too pretty to use lol!

Having had both xl polished and G10 versions I prefer the polished as the extra width and rounded contouring feels more comfortable in a sabre grip . YMMV

It's too large for everyday carry. I got the Espada large in G10 with a five and a half inch blade and I'm very happy with it.
The Espada XL G10 has made the Deadliest Weapons Series on Cold Steel You Tube Channel so yes it's good for defense and even offence if need be.

Oh yes! Its got the strength, and reach to be a real contender. Also is very comfortable, and easily deployed and facilitates different hand holds. I hope to never have to use it beyond "Hey check this out haha" but I got it just in case! Im more worried about coyotes and such and this would help with that just in case.

How often do you need to sharpen them?
Hi there! That depends on how often you use them, and what you use them on. The S35vn blade(polished) will hold an edge better than the Aus10(G10) steel. I would say just strop them every now and again and you should be good to go! If you are using them heavily then it will be more often of course. Me personally, I do not have to sharpen them very often. In fact I haven't sharpened the polished one yet.

It looks like the polished version is hollow ground while the AUS10A version is sabre ground. Can you confirm?
Hello! Thank you for the question! They are the same grind, and there's a dispute on what type it is in fact. So thank you again for finding me a rabbit hole! Most call it the hollow grind which is what I consider it, and others call it a flat grind. I think what you may have seen, is the polished is much much shinier so it may have given off a different appearance. But seeing them side by side, it is definitely same grind.
The S35VN blades are Saber so is the AUS10a but the old AUS8a version was Hollow Ground but still very tough I'm told.
And he is correct if you chop with your Selfdefense blade it should be a limb of some type and on a 35 to 45 degree angle.

How tough is the AUS-10A? I have dog trouble, big aggressive mean dogs.
Well I don't know what the situation is...but if you're dealing in mean dogs, I'd probably talk to local authorities first. If we're talking wild animals or coyotes, steel probably doesn't matter. This thing has some reach for sure. Cold Steels aus 10 is awesome! It's tough and easy to sharpen. I would EDC the aus 10 g10 over the s35vn anyday.
But again I don't know your situation, but try to get animal control to take care of it. Out in the wilds though the Espada XL is a good secondary against hungry animals out there if needed.
@@Mattisfaction 2-3 dogs are reservation dogs that L.E. cannot do anything about. I thought would be easier to pocket carry the Espada XL rater than my 9" Magnum Tanto. Thank you for your input.
@@TheStratman007 The Espada XL will definitely keep more distance between you and the trouble, plus the notches in the handle will keep your hand locked in tight. The only downside is in some panic situation is unfolding it, so definitely practice the wave feature of it to make sure it is drawn and ready when you retract from pocket. It's lightning quick when done right.

Thank you very much. I was attacked once in 2015. Typically, I keep a weapon at the ready. I'm old with some issues, but I've met with some serious trouble before. My fear is not being ravaged but in being defeated.

Yah know, a car is cool, but wont fit in your pocket. If you have the extra money laying around Id say go for it! Its fun, the polished is nice to look at, but the G10 is more practical for carrying to use and half the price. But let me know what you decide! I also admire Cold Steel! Thats why I have two of these! hehe

I have the nicer looking one. I must say, if you absolutely cannot carry a gun, carry this. This spartan, beast of a folding blade will take someone's arm clean off..God forbid. It's big though and, you have to wear something that will allow you to be comfortable carrying a folding blade that Conan would be proud to wield.
Hehe I totally agree with you! I also agree knives should be secondary in self defense. I have the Spartan as well, and yeah they are both just beasts!
