“Like A Rock” “We’ve Got Tonight” “Old Time Rock and Roll” And at least another dozen massive classic hits…I can’t imagine anyone NOT liking Bob Seger…he’s one of the GOATs.
I never listened to Seger when I was younger because I couldn’t relate to his songs. I’m now 40 and they bring a tear to my eye. I feel his lyrics are something you appreciate more when you grow older.
This song is about Seger at that age and how he viewed himself. Excellent song from a great songwriter. Hope you can explore some other of his songs and give his music a chance. So many of his songs do have country sounds.
I have to agree I've never seen or heard the song in that manner, as I was watching the video it totally changed the lyrics and the feel of that song.... But that's what great music is supposed to do right, lend itself to our lives and our memories.
Wow, that's a powerful video! I will never hear this song again without thinking of this video. I'm glad you appreciated the video even if you're not a Seeger fan.
I had to pause, almost choked on my coffee when the decanter's stopper finally popped... It really is a great story-telling song but Seger did that in every song. Good job on this and I enjoyed it a lot. Although centered (rightly) on the USMC, for me it reminds me of my early Army airborne days as my first unit assignment was the 4th/503rd Infantry Regiment, 173 Airborne Brigade (Separate), transitioned to 1st/503rd, 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell Ky. Deactivated in 1973 it was known as "The Rock" and is depicted on my Distinctive Unit Insignia as such. In WWII the unit jumped into and captured Corregidor, aptly named The Rock for its' harsh terrain. Afterward the unit was awarded a Presidential Unit Citation and received its nickname "the Rock Regiment" from it. Although this song came out about 15 years later, I am now playing my own movie in my head of a somewhat shorter career of 20 years, 6 months.
