    My favourite snare reverb is on appetite for destruction. The snare has that distinctive 80s sound but its used in a subtle enough way that the album sounds timeless.

    If you have a decent drum room sound to begin with do most folks still add drum reverb to the whole kit and a separate reverb for the snare? I always assumed if the room is decent you'd just add reverb to the snare and you're good. Thank you for the video.

    Pre delay was used by Ray Conniff, so the reverb starts a quarter note after the source sound.

    • @pierre-andregueguelarpin1473
      @pierre-andregueguelarpin1473 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Is there a lot of young people who know Ray Connif? I'm 63 years old and my father who was fan of swing specialy Count Basie and Lionnel Hampton had also 2 or 3 records of Ray Connif, for me the sound was really modern and punchy, does someone know if they were using a plate reverb on trumpet and trombone or on the entire mix? Thanks from Switzerland mountains🌲🇨🇭☃️ if you have some ideas, opinions or even family secrets about this existential question.

    I'd love to hear your suggestions to making a Roland TDK50 or other electronic drum sound more real (Especially reverb/effects on the cymbals and toms)

    • @AttawayAudio
      @AttawayAudio  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Short delays (20-50ms) that are filtered, and really short reverbs can help “liven up” samples that feel really dry. Also make sure you run the delay into the reverb too.

  • @elvismclane7930
    @elvismclane7930 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hello! Please I've been following you for awhile now and I love the way you put things simple for someone to understand. As a beginner how should I mix drum kick, should I pan it into the sub speakers?? Or let it play into the voice speakers too?? Mono mix. Thank you sir your generosity is great.

    • @adenikebola-owoseni5625
      @adenikebola-owoseni5625 หลายเดือนก่อน

      So personally I connect my sub as a bus……so I just send my kick drum to the bus……then I Eq the bus using effects……..then the main fader volume controls the click sound from the tops….depends on your eq tho

  • @Octwavian
    @Octwavian 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    So its a different reverb for the snare ? how many different reverbs should be used on a drumkit ?

    • @AttawayAudio
      @AttawayAudio  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you want! It's totally art, so the rules aren't hard and fast. Some songs have a different reverb on the toms than the snare, too. (Fire & Rain by James Taylor comes to mind for that)

      @Octwavian 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    @jonathanhayward8077 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    What are your thoughts on compression on the reverb send vs return??

    • @AttawayAudio
      @AttawayAudio  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Jonathan Hayward a more compressed drum into the reverb changes things a lot less than the compressed reverb tail. Now I’ve heard of gating the input to the reverb so just the initial transient is getting the reverb tail, and compression on the send might do something like that, but it’s not going to change it THAT much

    1 question why r you using a 1ms time on the drum? Is that because of the tempo you're using or what? Could you expand on that?

    • @milosjanic1038
      @milosjanic1038 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you asking about the compressor on the reverb? The compressor reduces the attack of the snare but only in the reverb.

    • @NathanBrown-dk5wh
      @NathanBrown-dk5wh 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not talking about the compressor I'm talking about the 1sec reverb time he first used

    • @AttawayAudio
      @AttawayAudio  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The 1s (or shorter) reverb time on the whole kit has nothing to do with the tempo, it's just putting a short space on it to affect the texture and character of the drums. It's just enough to lengthen the drum hits and keep them from being really dry, but not putting them in another zip code

    • @NathanBrown-dk5wh
      @NathanBrown-dk5wh 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AttawayAudio so meaning I can use like a 1/4 reverb time on the actual tempo of the song would that work and give the same affect?

    • @AttawayAudio
      @AttawayAudio  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah that’d work!

  • @collintoh1697
    @collintoh1697 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    why not eq the reverb return instead of reverb send? Thanks

    • @AttawayAudio
      @AttawayAudio  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      because of the overtones that excite the reverb. I don't want the rumble of the kick drum making things "happen" in the reverb up higher

    • @collintoh1697
      @collintoh1697 2 ปีที่แล้ว
