Indian Air Force has been operating MiGs for the last 5 decades and this has seen over 5 MiG-types to have seen service with Indian Air Force, in various roles ranging from Air Superiority, High Altitude Interception, Reconnaissance Roles to Air Defence.
It has been decades but the love of Indian Air Force for MiGs is not seems to end anytime soon. Starting from MiG-21 India's 1st supersonic fighter jet to MiG-29 the multirole fighter all of them are in service from a long time. I was present in the Bangalore Airshow of 2007, as a part of organising team, when MIG-35 flew directly from Moscow to Bangalore with mid-air refueling over Turkey, in approximately 3hrs 40 min covering distance of roughly 5800 kms.

Mig 25 foxbat is still the fastest combat aircraft. At mach 2.8, There was still no match for it even in the US. It was the secret fighter of soviet that have nightmares to US and earned the nickname 'ghost fighter'. Though the fastest military aircraft till date is the SR-71 blackbird at Mach 3+ but it was a reconnaissance aircraft.
It was not until a Russian pilot who defected to the US along with his Mig 25 that US finally got a look at the aircraft and started the F14 tomcat in response
At present the most fastest fighter aircraft is Mig 31 (Foxhound).

Mig21 did not shot f16. Amercans did a count and the count was correct.
Why mig 25 got retired before even it was advanced then mig 21.
India only had a few mig-25's, it was a secret with which they surprised Pakistan once.
Mig 25 was meant to tackle other legends like SR71 and U2.. it's an interceptor whose job was to take off quickly reach the danger zone as fast any machine can...
An impressive machine which not only created hype in southern asia, but also caused panic among US security
However it was not as good as mig21 in dog fight...
The reason to discontinue as stated in the video is lack of spare parts... But more strong reason could be that it was compromised as US got a hold of this plane after one Russia's pilot defected
Further with the introduction to satellite technology the reconnaissance aircrafts like sr71 and U2 became obsolete... Thus they became unnecessary
Mig 25 and Mig 21 are totally different categories.
The reason behind early retirement of mig 25 was that their spare parts were not available. India had to cannibalize jets to allow flying of these jets of which only 3 were left by 2006 in bareilly air force station. Also the main job of these jets were to reconnaissance over enemy territory but with advent of satellites and specially Indian spy satellites we no longer required them to do reconnaissance. Hence they were retired
