I’am not a drinker, my best decision was sorted when I just happened to meet a Thai lady that doesn’t drink either. Been here 4 years, I’am too old to bother looking for a different lady. She’s 41 I’am 71 and for me it’s the ideal situation, we are both very happy. She probably saves me money, in the long run, she cooks and looks after me, of course I look after her!

If your going to have a girlfriend that stays with you 24/7 you must eat thai food 99% of the time 1) its cheap when u have 2 mouths to feed 2) you get her hooked on farang food she will look like Doris from the bingo before u know it 😅

I had a buddy who practiced the "only drink at night time" rule. He would drink heavily until the bars closed at 4 am, dangerously ride his motorbike home and sleep it off all day. By the time he woke up in the late afternoon, it was almost night time again, and he'd start all over. But he was very proud he stuck to his "only drink at night time" rule lol.

Get the Gik option or PAYG a live in would be a disaster dealing with all her problems or at least having to listen to them 24/7, lets be honest guys the average girl in patts and her family could not give a rats arse if you die or not, so f them, treat them as a business same they treat you. You will not find "Love" in patts.
These guys who say they have girl friends are kidding themselves,tell the girl they have run out of money and they would be gone in a heart beat.

I find when I go there I can live just on the extra attention alone I get from women every day when I am out and about and have no need for a relationship with them whatsoever. I would be moving over there for #1 the quality of life #2 cost of living #3 weather #4 food #5 golf and women would be even farther down the list like maybe #8 or #10. One of the few great things about getting older as a man is that you are no longer a slave to your biology like you are up until your late 40s. I didn't make it this far in life to be led around by the nose by some woman half of my age because I am desperate and lonely.

Wise Words. If you decide on 3rd Option don't give to much to start off with because if you start off giving 20000 THB per month + food + other living expenses it mounts up.
If your Lady only usually earns 10000 per month working 6 days a week then why double it as she will expect this every month so 15000 should be enough for her to also support her family as well as take care of you.
As for having 3 or 4 different ladies over a couple of weeks - Pattaya is a Big City but Trust me they will all find out who the other ladies are very quickly so it's best to come clean straight away - tell them you are a "Butterfly " and its just business arrangement so everyone is happy so when she sees you out and about town with another Lady no drama's or fights.
If you got more money than sense or just six months to Live then just go to bars + clubs different ladies every night and die a a Happy Man.
In my experience the ladies dont really care what you get up to ,has long has they have customers or are having a part of your pie..
Extremely valuable to listen to the second time around. Exactly one of the most important topics for my upcoming emigration to Pattaya in May 2024. Only the GIK system seems to make sense to me after about 12 vacation stays and corresponding personal experiences here.

Very good advice indeed. Thank you. Retiring there is a dream but I am 48 from Rotherham, England and not on a great wage. I got back from Pattaya at the end of November and counted what I was spending for a good night out. Living like a two week millionaire is great but I doubt staying/living there long term and being soft hearted is not an option. A great video to help with the decision process which I am spending months and months thinking about. Thank you once again.
It's incentive to find ways to grow your wealth. That's why I focus on things outside of work, so I can retire like a king in Thailand.

If you're going to live there, have a go at learning the language.. It opens up social opportunities, gives you something to do and helps you to feel less lonely!
I live in Central America and learning Spanish has opened untold doors and presented so much more opportunity.
Plus obtaining education VISA seems to be a fairly easy way to live there for up to a year. Good trial run.

i think the best option is to visit 2 times in a year thailand and live like a 2 week miilionair and go back home , because there are so many rouls of visa and healthinsurance ect.... i have been many times there but after a while most of the farangs are like stoned there, after my first visit i crayed in the airplane because leavining thailand , last time i was there for almost 2 month and it was just enough, partying every night and taking girls to hotel......

Looks 3 GIK system the more reasonable system, for someone with limited funds . For sure I will need to use in myself in the near future.
The Gik system seems like the best option financially (no baggage).

Not drinking beer until sundown is good advice. I have always been able to stick to this regimen in Thai and in neighbouring countries and consequently was never in danger of turning into an alcoholic during my long visits there and expat days. What I would find difficult though, even now as a retiree, is not drinking at all, day in day out, in places like Pattaya. A falung really needs something sedating to help him pass the time during these pumped up tropical evenings as the long day wanes. More importantly, a few drinks will help him cope with the manic vibe in the air, which is at times perilous, at least in the livelier parts of towns like PTY and Ao Patong on Phuket. So then, have a few drinks each day to unwind, fellahs, but don't over do it. Otherwise, you will simply make yourself vulnerable to the local jackals. There's no shortage of these latter in the resort towns, who are perpetually ready to pounce on a drunk.

I think even leaving it until evening still means being careful. It is probably better to have at least a couple of days off it completely each week. I went dry for 3 years, and I soon felt a lot better for it. Then last year, family drama's, and I started on one or two, which grew. I am 60 now, and my body just can't process it without leaving me feeling lousy. It is a little boring being dry of an evening at first, but in my case it makes the days so much better. When I was on my 3 year wagon, being dry just became normal, and I didn't even think about it. When sober, you begin to notice there are actually quite a few on soda or Heineken zero.

Cheers for the video, Daz. It was very informative! Daz, rumours are flying around about the new tax laws that are going to be introduced. One of them is that savings are going to be taxed if brought into Thailand. Do you have any plans to look into this area or all areas, maybe with a tax expert? As I am approaching retirement age, and this would be a massive issue for me, as I do not want to be taxed twice on my earnings/savings. It would mean not fully moving to Thailand, and just becoming a winter bird, spending < 180 days to get around the issue. I am sure this would be a well-watched video Cheers!
No point yet as everything is still up in the air. The Thai Gov screwed up big time with this as it was aimed at wealthy Thais who make money abroad and then bring it into Thailand without tax, however the Gov had no clue the problems it would create with expats, wait until they get their ducks in a row.
It seems to me like the current tax plan overhaul is so brutal there is no way a sane government would continue with it as written. I give it < 2% chance of passing as is. @@everythingPattaya

Surely Giks want some compensation for their time with you? You mentioned in your video is that Giks are not the same as ST girls. Then what kind of compensation would a Gik expect?

Thanks Daz. Viewing this again did give me an idea for someone to develop an App for remembering the ladies. I would title it "Remember Her" that could work with Google speech or Siri where you use voice and an image and point at the lady in question and ask Siri "Remember Her?" .😂. Good rule to remember too. Nono to Gogo😅. Too bad about the Thumbnail being rejected. Some content creators including me when I used to, will add on "Fair Use" and "17 U.S.C 107" in small print on the thumbnail. This is scanned by the algorithms and should pass muster if the video associated with it is informational, educational etc. You could also add in a small print caption like "Lady or Ladyboy?" on the Thumbnail so that the algorithms interpret this as being fair to everybody. I firmly believe these algorithms are Gremlins🤣

A large amount of people I knew in Spain who went there to retire are now dead, drank themselves to death, literally!! Enjoy the sunshine but live a healthy life, it is very easy to get dragged into the afternoon sessions when you have money and lots of spare time, also consider your number one priority when you get older, health care, if you are getting treatment at home ask yourself would you get the same treatment or is your medication available were you are planing to go and live? If not could be a very bad move for you, this is the reason that I wouldnt live abroad again.

They are really bar girls who you develop a close tie with and money becomes secondary, but you still need to contribute.

At 74 most Companies will just refuse you, some may ask for an insane premium

You will find the best answers by visiting Pattaya in person. I found all of the people there to be very decent, friendly, hard working people.
Thais never speak to farangs unless they want something.
Yes western husbands & wives do retire to Pattaya but not usually near the center.

Great show Daz as usual, however Option 2 - The Gik system is not as easy as you make out, firstly it is designed for Thai men, but if you are a falang it is still pay for play always, there is no such thing as cheap gifts with the odd cheap meal OVER standard pay rates unless you are paying in Gold! ALL the girls are in Pattaya to work to financially support their famalies as a priority and that is via services rendered through ST, and LT options, there are NO other options, you are paying for her to leave until your turn comes again!
Not so, if you are young and look good, I know several young guys who run giks for free, just like Thai guys.
If you look over 35, you pay.
Over 35s make up the majority 85% of pattayas tourists or expats!! 😁😄🤑

I think I am more of the mindset as you sir, I am 38, I visited pattaya early NOV, late DEC and going back FEB, gogo bars ALREADY becoming boring for me and planning to do the GIK, and find 2-3 small bars where the staff get use to me, because I am planning to visit pattaya for 2weeks every 2 months, next FEB will be my 12th time in Thailand, and I have a long way till retirement
Frankly, given the prices announced, Pattaya is especially interesting for men over 40 years old or with an unattractive body, surely the best for retirees capable of not being led by the nose by women.
What surprises me is the younger men ones, it's crazy given the prices announced, much easier to find a girlfriend in Georgia or Armenia under 40 years old or even more..... it's madness, the girls are very affordable, much more than in Slavic countries.
But frankly I find that the demands of Thai girls can only stick to men with more and more means......

The Philippines is the best if you want a GF but the infrastructure, housing, and food is not nearly as good. Personally, I am older and would be happy with the Gik arrangement. Never invest or spend any money that you can’t easily and I mean easily walk away from. Example: you marry a Thai lady, build a house for her, buy vehicles etc. Marriage ends, she keeps house you shrug your shoulders and say, “Oh well, no big deal ,I can afford the financial loss.” Don’t get officially married where the marriage is recognized by the Thai government. Just have a Buddhist ceremony without the government paperwork. Don’t share your financial details with anyone. Remember, do not spend more than you can easily walk away from!!!!!!! Good luck!

Girls are turning obnoxious with time in the money they demand and i see two reasons for it-
1. Flood of Indian and middle eastern extremely rich population with loads of disposable income coming to Pattaya mostly like for 2-3 months every year.
2. General acceptance of prices within men who visit Pattaya for short term.
I feel demographies have changed like day and night!
The advantage westerners had over Arabs & Indians is seemingly gone now because of alot of regular long time visitors being groomed, highly educated, polite & good looking young Indian chaps with loads of money to spend!
I see mostly all of these young brilliant looking young girls call for these young Indians (of course girls are smart to judge which of these guys are a great catch and which are window shoppers) just like they do for Japanese and Koreans, but not so much for westerners!

I feel things in Pattaya are moving in line with changing economic positioning and lack of disposable income in west, hence the shift globally from west to countries in east!

That's why you should never take a bar girl as a regular GF, it's a recipe for disaster. Thailand is littered with the bones of farangs who made that mistake.

Daz I know that you advocate that a guy should get a bar girl over a freelancer. I've seen you say that bar girls are health checked and if there is a problem a guy can take it up to the bar mamasan or bar owner. My question is what will they do about it, if any problems arise?
Let's say a guy used safe methods but somehow got a STD.
Or the girl steals from the guy.
Or the girl cops an attitude and leaves the guy high and dry.
What will the bar response be?
Pay your medical bills?
Pay you for what was stolen?
Refund the bar fee and the price you paid her?
Will the bar lean on the girl to make things right and if she doesn't will the bar make it right?
Those are questions that would be important to know the answers to and I have never seen anyone address them.Thank you.

It's a chump change. if one considers the bar fine, lady drinks and even just ST one could be out an easy 5k baht or more and if the girl takes some expensive jewelry, iphone, or cleans one's wallet that bar fine returned is more an insult than anything else. Freelancers w/o bar fine, lady drinks and much cheaper sound like a much better deal, one just has to take precautions, for stealing or any other problem both bar girls or freelancers could act the same way
I have been thousands of times with freelancers, never had a problem, never paid more than 1k bahts per time, short or long.
