Septum piercings: The younger generation just found out they can hide their septum by turning it up into the nostrils. It's just a "look what I can get away with" thing. We did the same, but AT A PIERCER
the issue with those magnetic septum rings is that you can easily accidentally breathe it in and it will go into your lung which obviously is a HUGE issue
Every time I feel down and too lazy to go and clean my piercing I hear your voice in my head saying "disgusting" "hello infections" and I immediately go clean them!
As a retired nurse, this makes me 🤮 anytime you break the skin barrier you risk a life. I have 17 Piercings, I know the safety procedure. I picked my Piercings very carefully. As well as my tatts. Research people, look at the equipment, the sterile sets, the cleanliness of the studio.
That is really true I go to modern ritual my piercing shop and I trust them with all of my piercings I have 5 piercings in total I did my stretched ears myself and got my snakebite lip piercings and my nose pierced at my piercing shop
Yes!! I did a ton of research before getting my piercings and tatts. Visited the two places I went to and asked a ton of questions, did my own inspection, and read a ton of reviews beforehand. Ya gotta do your research because cleanliness is everything! Infections can turn deadly with piercings and tattoos.

That dirty piercing picture also shows that the jewelry is turning green, meaning that the jewelry isn't quality enough and is rubbing off its deteriorating residue on the piercings etc. Just pay for the stuff that won't erode on your skin!! It probably wouldn't look that dirty if you wore better quality jewelry
That's not always true though! Depending on person to person, sometimes real jewelry can still turn someone's skin green! My grandmother only wore real gold but her skin always became green and everyone though she bought fake stuff. It's because of the other metals in the jewelry besides the gold! Sometimes the metals can react with someone's skin chemistry in weird ways! But yes most times, it is because of crappy jewelry :)
I follow that studio, the client actually went to the studio to have the jewelry replaced, the worked had been done by another "professional" and the piercings were good quality, it's written. They're advising people to be careful about certainly studios that use poor quality jewelry.

Surgical steel a lot of times contain nickel which is what causes tarnishing & allergic reactions. So sadly surgical steel also belongs under low quality, the only form of steel that is safe for body piercing is ASTM F-138 Steel/implant grade steel.
I went to get my septum done and she didn't check my nose properly and then when the needle didn't go through she SHOVED the needle to try and force it through and it still didn't go through and then she YANKED the needle out of half of my septum and then said "oh it looks like your nose isn't compatible with this piercing" like yeah no crap Sarah. My nose was so sore for weeks, defiantly sure she exposed a nerve or something because jesusss
Omg that sounds horrible! I’m sure if she had felt for the sweet spot instead of just shoving the needle in that you would have had a different outcome. But in saying that she isn’t professional if she did that so she shouldn’t even be piercing in the first place ! Yikes
only time I've ever had jewelry do that is when I was a teen and got it at Claire's. The green film on the jewelry itself is from the jewelry being exposed to water and the poor metal quality. it's likely they did clean it, just really hard to keep extremely low quality jewelry from doing that unfortunately. it's why I never let my kids buy jewelry from Claire's.

@@codsamanta exactly. They make it look similar to legit jewelry but it'll mess up your piercings pretty bad. I haven't shopped at Claire's since my daughter was 5 or 6 (she's 16 now). The quality should never be inserted into the body for any reason.

The most uncomfortable part of my entire appointment was screwing the ball onto my septum, and even then I was in and out in under 5 mins. Professionally done septums are so easy on the one being pierced
Right?! My septum piercing and healing process went so smoothly and the professional I went to was able to make it symmetrical and beautiful (even on my somewhat lopsided nose). The pain these people have to feel while pushing those needles through their cartilage, and the healing has to be even worse... and on top of all of that it's not even going to look right. Just... why?
Yeah I didn’t even really feel that much discomfort with the clamp. The piercer did it really quickly and easily, the only pain I really felt was during the healing process.
I’ve gotten my septum done 3 times. 1.) it was the most painful thing in my life, she put it through the thickest part of my skin in a bathroom in high school, I passed out for a few seconds and threw up. 0/10 do not recommend 2.) I got it done without a clamp and didn’t feel it, it was my most even piercing I loved it. 3.) I got it done with a clamp and had to have her do it twice because of how painful the meta clamp was, 10/10 on pain but I didn’t feel the needle at all
I just got my septum and tongue done a week ago. The healing has sucked but that's not my issue. I asked if the tongue could be done first as it would hurt more, he said that the septum actually hurts more and did it first. I've never whimpered and whined so much during a piercing (I got my nipples and navel done in the same session with minimal pain). Both hurt so bad and felt so slow. A tattoo artist across the room said I "make good noises when I'm in pain", I just laughed it of because of how vulnerable I was having another clamp on me and such. But it was creepy. Also when I got home, I realized why he said septum hurt more, I guess he always pierces through the front cartilage.... so the healing is going to be much longer and more painful... yay. On the upside both do look really nice, but needless to say, I'll never go back. PS I only went here instead of my usual piercer because she's on maternity leave. Next time I'll just wait because she's an angel.

Word to the wise: If you're going to pierce your own septum... DON'T. I did so much homework before picking my piercer for my septum. I knew how easily people can mess it up and if done right, how smooth it should go. Thankfully, I picked one of the best in my area (and he actually happens to be related to me! Our mothers have the same godmother, too!) and am going back to him in January for my right nostril to get my nose nice and symmetrical. He's absolutely fantastic and I'll suggest him to anyone, especially if they're nervous about getting pierced. Changed my septum jewelry for the first time today, actually! :D

ok, so here's my take on septum piercings: -you can hide them easily (because of parents/work); -it's 'in front of you', so you just look straight into mirror, not twist around to see ear or have to deal with saliva when it's some oral piercing; -maybe some find it more comforting that the actual place where skin is pierced is not visible, just the hanging piercing is seen (I mean.. unless you screw up like @ 0:42 the hell was that); -if you know basics it may seem easy, as the skin is thinner compared to ear; -idk cause all cool/quirly/alt girls have it?? /hj but if it sounds great, remember folks, even putting safety aside, what makes or breaks this piercing is placement. it looks best when it's positioned correctly, when you diy you may get lucky, or deal with crooked one.
It's the sweet spot that makes so many people think they can do it themselves "because when you feel your nose you can feel where it's supposed to be peirced" people have spoke about septum piercings this way for as long as I can remember in the context of at home or DIY piercings because there's a sweet spot people think that it's an at home piercing similar to the way smileys used to be discussed. People realy were under the impression that smileys and septums were safer to do at home and I'm sure some people still belive that aswell as all your reasons for why it's a big at home piercing now.
I'm an extremely alt girl who has it and it's my favourite piercing. I'm having a baby and hen I get my body to a stage I'm happy I'm getting my belly button redone.

(never been pregnant myself, just saw it as an option some ppl used while pregnant, not sure how practical is it. I think it was bioplast or sth else that is kinda flexible)
@@SteamSigun thank you. Nah you're right a lot of alt people have it and I found it funny. I love the fact I fit that stereotype. My belly button rejected a while before the pregnancy because I lost a lot of weight and I couldn't get the bar changed bwcause of covid so I was left with a bar that was wayy too long. If I had been able to keep it I would definitely have used flexible retainers.

Piercing horror story: I’ve always wanted a septum piercing becuase i disliked my nose and wanted something to make it my own. I got it done at a professional studio for my birth and ABSOLUTELY loved it, she had hit the sweet spot and everything. The healing process went splendid and before i knew it i had a perfectly healed septum. Well, my partner and I had gotten a new puppy a few months later. He was growing so fast so we decided to put on a new harness so we could walk him around. One evening i was putting his harness on and bent down to give him a kiss, before I knew it he squirmed and his harness caught my septum ring (it was a curved barbell). Suddenly i felt a horrific pain in my nose and when i looked in the mirror my curved bar bell was completely straightened out and blood was running down my face. Thank goodness it didn’t do any permanent damage and within a few days it felt better. Needless to say I no longer have a septum piercing 🤦♂️
I actually had the magnetic septum before getting my real one & the magnet is strong enough to stay on the cartilage. So you don't have to put it on the sweet spot at all. But for me it was a bit uncomfortable for sure.
In my mind I imagine the magnet to be strong, lots of pressure must be put onto the septum and cause pain after a time? Am I correct? Thing is the more powerful the more it will stay in place so assuming its the only way with these ?
@@soapqueen3335 no I didn't find it painful for that reason I just have very sensitive skin & am allergic to metal & even tho the piercing itself is anti allergic the magnets aren't so I got irritated spots in my nose from wearing it a day. Depending on the shape of your cartilage it can obviously hurt if put in a weird position but you'll just have to try out some different spots & you'll find a comfortable one eventually! It's definitely worth buying because it really made me realize that I really want a septum piercing. So if you're thinking about it I can definitely recommend it!
The piecer that first pierced my septum didn’t check for the sweet spot, she just eyeballed the placement and went through part of my cartilage, AND did it incredibly crooked. It was the most painful thing I’ve ever experienced. I went back two days later because the pain and positioning was horrible and all she said was “I’ve been doing this for 20 years I know what I’m doing” 😐 if you live in the Ocala, Fl area DONT go to fat kats.
Apparently 40% of people have nose cartilage that does not suit the septum. Very un even. It has a big change to go crooked. I had a very good piercer he told me I had it and he would advise not to do it. I still chose to do get the septum after thinking about it. He told me he would try to correct the angle but I can't promise it won't get crooked. It was the most painless piercing I had and it was super straight! I found the piercer by checking first the reputation of the shop. I knew it was the best known tattoo shop of the city. Not disappointed!
So you know how in Spiderman: Homecoming, there is a video played in detention of Captain America, you should do one of them for students caught doing piercings in school "So, you tried to pierce your septum...."
Annoying/“that was a dumb idea!” piercings; back in my misspent youth! (1) surface collar bone piercings, caught on everything! (2) wrist “weave” (don’t ask) ripped out by my dog, who jumped up at me to say hi and caught his claw under it. (3) all the back of the neck piercings, I had at least six, they all sucked. (4) behind the ear piercing (no idea) looked good but as a riding instructor who wears a riding hat 90% of the time, I can confirm if you forget it’s there and catch it whilst removing the hat it sucks. These were all in my teenage years/early 20s. I’m now 35, and have removed all but one, and have been left with many piercing scars as a reminder of my idiocy😂
In middle school around 2008-2010 I gave myself snakebites as a scene queen…. They didn’t last more than 2 months but oh lord were they bad. I used regular ball stud earrings from Claire’s as Jewelry in them 💀
I had two dermals at the nape of my neck. got a scarf caught in them and had to cross state lines after 3 days to get them removed along with the scarf because they were illegal in the state I was living in! fun times!

I have 21 piercings but 8 of them i had for years and the other 13 of them i had done professional, i always cleaned them. My piercer even told that the 13 piercings are looking fabulous. Always always clean them
I went to a piercing studio to get my septum pierced. She was shaking the whole time and pierced me through my cartilage. I was so sore for a week because I had to keep it flipped up for work. I ended up taking it out, letting it heal, and then piercing it myself at home. I MADE SURE I found the sweet spot amd did my best while staying as clean as I could. My piercing healed very quickly and it hasn't closed since even when I don't wear jewelry. Even though my piercing turned out fine, I don't recommend piercing at home but you REALLY gotta research your piercing studio. The place I went to shut down not too long after.
Those two hoop earrings were probably made of brass or just brass plated… let me just say QUALITY jewelry is always best for piercings! You don’t want metals that will tarnish in your ears!

so glad i was smart enough to get my septum done professionally. it was the first piercing i have gotten professionally bc the others were done at claire's (they were lobe piercings) and it has been the smoothest healing piercing i have gotten. this saturday will be six weeks since i have gotten it and it feels perfectly fine. always go to a (reputable) professional

I got my septum pierced recently, and so far it’s going well. Just itchy a bit but it makes me feel a lot more confident. I went to a tattoo/piercing shop and that pierced did it perfect on the very first attempt.

One of my friends always gives the warning to never get piercings at Claire's, because she's noticed the local location usually had underage employees with little experience in handling the equipment, and didn't sanitize properly...she had seen and heard some things about infections happening to folks that didn't know any better. I cringe whenever anyone say they got piercings at that place, and they're either lucky or just genuinely got someone competent when they report of no infections. ...I still won't go to Claire's. If I ever need a piercing done again, I'm better off visiting Walmart again, or a legit parlor (would prefer the parlor, since I want snakebites, some day).
I have a dermal on the back of my neck and its something that I dont remember getting until it catches on something or someone points it out... Legit cant even see it why tf did 18 year old me decide this was a good idea? On a good note I've never had any problems with it rejecting
The septum thing is because the internet says it's the easiest thing to pierce yourself. I would know because I almost pierced my own septum during quarantine because no piercers were doing face/mouth/noses at the time. (Spoiler, I got it done by a professional later and it's beautiful and I love it)
A real horror thing I just heard, I have this more of acquaintance that I talk to at school and I told her I wanted to go get my septum pierced. She got excited and said she wanted to go get her first lobes pierced........ At Claires... I went "Oh NOO Honey NOOO." Then proceeded to text her basically an essay for why you shouldn't go there for piercings and actually used Roly as a source and gave her some links to his videos so she can see why. I don't think she even used it though. -_- She just responded with "Oh we'll find a place, we'll go together!" She has the tendency to try and hype me up for something we could do and never do it or does it with someone else. So it honestly won't surprise me if I see her next and she had already gone to Claires anyways. Do what you want, boo. I tried to save you from the risk of failure and infection. I bought some "quality" jewelry but got scamed. They turned green and my earholes got infected. Now my earholes have grown closed because of that.

I asked if the tongue could be done first as it would hurt more, he said that the septum actually hurts more and did it first. I've never whimpered and whined so much during a piercing (I got my nipples and navel done in the same session with minimal pain). Both hurt so bad and felt so slow. A tattoo artist across the room said I "make good noises when I'm in pain", I just laughed it of because of how vulnerable I was having another clamp on me and such. But it was creepy. Also when I got home, I realized why he said septum hurt more, I guess he always pierces through the front cartilage.... so the healing is going to be much longer and more painful... yay. On the upside both do look really nice, but needless to say, I'll never go back. PS I only went here instead of my usual piercer because she's on maternity leave. Next time I'll just wait because she's an angel.

I did so much homework before picking my piercer for my septum. I knew how easily people can mess it up and if done right, how smooth it should go. Thankfully, I picked one of the best in my area (and he actually happens to be related to me! Our mothers have the same godmother, too!) and am going back to him in January for my right nostril to get my nose nice and symmetrical. He's absolutely fantastic and I'll suggest him to anyone, especially if they're nervous about getting pierced.

ok, so here's my take on septum piercings:
-you can hide them easily (because of parents/work);
-it's 'in front of you', so you just look straight into mirror, not twist around to see ear or have to deal with saliva when it's some oral piercing;
-maybe some find it more comforting that the actual place where skin is pierced is not visible, just the hanging piercing is seen (I mean.. unless you screw up like @ 0:42 the hell was that);
-if you know basics it may seem easy, as the skin is thinner compared to ear;
-idk cause all cool/quirly/alt girls have it?? /hj
but if it sounds great, remember folks, even putting safety aside, what makes or breaks this piercing is placement. it looks best when it's positioned correctly, when you diy you may get lucky, or deal with crooked one.
It's the sweet spot that makes so many people think they can do it themselves "because when you feel your nose you can feel where it's supposed to be peirced" people have spoke about septum piercings this way for as long as I can remember in the context of at home or DIY piercings because there's a sweet spot people think that it's an at home piercing similar to the way smileys used to be discussed. People realy were under the impression that smileys and septums were safer to do at home and I'm sure some people still belive that aswell as all your reasons for why it's a big at home piercing now.
I'm an extremely alt girl who has it and it's my favourite piercing. I'm having a baby and hen I get my body to a stage I'm happy I'm getting my belly button redone.

and if you don't mind- couldn't you use some of those long retainers to keep that piercing during pregnancy? (never been pregnant myself, just saw it as an option some ppl used while pregnant, not sure how practical is it. I think it was bioplast or sth else that is kinda flexible)
@@SteamSigun thank you. Nah you're right a lot of alt people have it and I found it funny. I love the fact I fit that stereotype. My belly button rejected a while before the pregnancy because I lost a lot of weight and I couldn't get the bar changed bwcause of covid so I was left with a bar that was wayy too long. If I had been able to keep it I would definitely have used flexible retainers.

Piercing horror story:
I’ve always wanted a septum piercing becuase i disliked my nose and wanted something to make it my own. I got it done at a professional studio for my birth and ABSOLUTELY loved it, she had hit the sweet spot and everything. The healing process went splendid and before i knew it i had a perfectly healed septum. Well, my partner and I had gotten a new puppy a few months later. He was growing so fast so we decided to put on a new harness so we could walk him around. One evening i was putting his harness on and bent down to give him a kiss, before I knew it he squirmed and his harness caught my septum ring (it was a curved barbell). Suddenly i felt a horrific pain in my nose and when i looked in the mirror my curved bar bell was completely straightened out and blood was running down my face. Thank goodness it didn’t do any permanent damage and within a few days it felt better. Needless to say I no longer have a septum piercing 🤦♂️

I actually had the magnetic septum before getting my real one & the magnet is strong enough to stay on the cartilage. So you don't have to put it on the sweet spot at all. But for me it was a bit uncomfortable for sure.
In my mind I imagine the magnet to be strong, lots of pressure must be put onto the septum and cause pain after a time? Am I correct? Thing is the more powerful the more it will stay in place so assuming its the only way with these ?
@@soapqueen3335 no I didn't find it painful for that reason I just have very sensitive skin & am allergic to metal & even tho the piercing itself is anti allergic the magnets aren't so I got irritated spots in my nose from wearing it a day. Depending on the shape of your cartilage it can obviously hurt if put in a weird position but you'll just have to try out some different spots & you'll find a comfortable one eventually! It's definitely worth buying because it really made me realize that I really want a septum piercing. So if you're thinking about it I can definitely recommend it!

The piecer that first pierced my septum didn’t check for the sweet spot, she just eyeballed the placement and went through part of my cartilage, AND did it incredibly crooked. It was the most painful thing I’ve ever experienced. I went back two days later because the pain and positioning was horrible and all she said was “I’ve been doing this for 20 years I know what I’m doing” 😐 if you live in the Ocala, Fl area DONT go to fat kats.
Apparently 40% of people have nose cartilage that does not suit the septum. Very un even. It has a big change to go crooked. I had a very good piercer he told me I had it and he would advise not to do it. I still chose to do get the septum after thinking about it. He told me he would try to correct the angle but I can't promise it won't get crooked. It was the most painless piercing I had and it was super straight! I found the piercer by checking first the reputation of the shop. I knew it was the best known tattoo shop of the city. Not disappointed!

Annoying/“that was a dumb idea!” piercings; back in my misspent youth!
(1) surface collar bone piercings, caught on everything!
(2) wrist “weave” (don’t ask) ripped out by my dog, who jumped up at me to say hi and caught his claw under it.
(3) all the back of the neck piercings, I had at least six, they all sucked.
(4) behind the ear piercing (no idea) looked good but as a riding instructor who wears a riding hat 90% of the time, I can confirm if you forget it’s there and catch it whilst removing the hat it sucks.
These were all in my teenage years/early 20s. I’m now 35, and have removed all but one, and have been left with many piercing scars as a reminder of my idiocy😂
In middle school around 2008-2010 I gave myself snakebites as a scene queen…. They didn’t last more than 2 months but oh lord were they bad. I used regular ball stud earrings from Claire’s as Jewelry in them 💀

I have 21 piercings but 8 of them i had for years and the other 13 of them i had done professional, i always cleaned them. My piercer even told that the 13 piercings are looking fabulous. Always always clean them
I went to a piercing studio to get my septum pierced. She was shaking the whole time and pierced me through my cartilage. I was so sore for a week because I had to keep it flipped up for work. I ended up taking it out, letting it heal, and then piercing it myself at home. I MADE SURE I found the sweet spot amd did my best while staying as clean as I could. My piercing healed very quickly and it hasn't closed since even when I don't wear jewelry. Even though my piercing turned out fine, I don't recommend piercing at home but you REALLY gotta research your piercing studio. The place I went to shut down not too long after.

so glad i was smart enough to get my septum done professionally. it was the first piercing i have gotten professionally bc the others were done at claire's (they were lobe piercings) and it has been the smoothest healing piercing i have gotten. this saturday will be six weeks since i have gotten it and it feels perfectly fine. always go to a (reputable) professional

I got my septum pierced recently, and so far it’s going well. Just itchy a bit but it makes me feel a lot more confident. I went to a tattoo/piercing shop and that pierced did it perfect on the very first attempt.

One of my friends always gives the warning to never get piercings at Claire's, because she's noticed the local location usually had underage employees with little experience in handling the equipment, and didn't sanitize properly...she had seen and heard some things about infections happening to folks that didn't know any better.
I cringe whenever anyone say they got piercings at that place, and they're either lucky or just genuinely got someone competent when they report of no infections.
...I still won't go to Claire's. If I ever need a piercing done again, I'm better off visiting Walmart again, or a legit parlor (would prefer the parlor, since I want snakebites, some day).

The septum thing is because the internet says it's the easiest thing to pierce yourself. I would know because I almost pierced my own septum during quarantine because no piercers were doing face/mouth/noses at the time. (Spoiler, I got it done by a professional later and it's beautiful and I love it)

A real horror thing I just heard, I have this more of acquaintance that I talk to at school and I told her I wanted to go get my septum pierced. She got excited and said she wanted to go get her first lobes pierced........ At Claires... I went "Oh NOO Honey NOOO." Then proceeded to text her basically an essay for why you shouldn't go there for piercings and actually used Roly as a source and gave her some links to his videos so she can see why. I don't think she even used it though. -_-
She just responded with "Oh we'll find a place, we'll go together!" She has the tendency to try and hype me up for something we could do and never do it or does it with someone else. So it honestly won't surprise me if I see her next and she had already gone to Claires anyways. Do what you want, boo. I tried to save you from the risk of failure and infection.
