In October and November of 2020, Poland saw its biggest protests since the fall of its communist regime 30 years ago. Hundreds of thousands of women marched in defiance of a new court ruling that would outlaw abortions under almost any circumstance.
Poland has long had some of the strictest abortion laws in Europe. But in 2015, the right-wing party Law and Justice (PiS) came to power in Poland, and promptly started trying to narrow abortion access in the country even further. In 2016 they attempted to pass a total ban. They failed.
But in 2020, at the ruling party’s request, Poland’s highest court ruled that almost all abortions were illegal. They did so because Law and Justice had spent the previous few years degrading the court’s independence and turning it into an arm of the party. The protests began immediately, partly because of the ruling itself but also because of what it represents: the risk of losing not only reproductive rights but the country’s democratic institutions.
To understand why this ruling has driven so many into the streets, and exactly why it threatens Poland’s democracy, watch the video above.
Note: At 1:50, a previous version of this video illustrated a quote from Law & Justice party leader Jarosław Kaczyński with a photo of his late twin brother, former president Lech Kaczyński. The error has been corrected.

"Law and Justice" translates to "Prawo i Sprawiedliwość" which appears a lot of times in the Bible and it signals that strong connection of the ruling party to the church. Since most of PiS voters are suburbs and villages citizens and majority of them declares being religious it allows them to score easy points. It's more of a tactical move than sign of believe and you can see that in most of party doings. They just play illusion game that many uneducated people fall for.

There’s nothing alike about constitutional tribunal or the Supreme Court.
The constitutional tribunal only gives decisions or opinions if this is constitutional or not. Even though the supreme court does the same function the Supreme Court can also give warrants and use legal powers to enforce those decisions.
Supreme court also serve for life on the bench in which they don’t have to worry about the public opinion or public views as supreme court is not supposed to be politically influenced that’s why they serve for life not elected in which that’s why most supreme courts are life positions and most supreme court justices knows more about what the people are facing than those politicians in which most supreme court justices have law backgrounds or just appointed from civilian background to seat.

If anything, life terms translate to/favor dictatorship, because the demands of the majority of a population 10yrs from now may differ quite a bit from the demands of today, which those appointed 20 years ago aren't keeping up with at all. Term limits and additional seats on the Supreme Court would mean that more cases can be heard and handled, and that those appointed can serve terms more reflective of the population they serve during their terms instead of being dinosaurs in an evolving population with changing legal and social demands.
