yesterday was ww 2 memorial day in the netherlands, and there was a Romani girl that spoke about her grandparents being forced to perform for nazis and then being taken away to concentration camps. it's such a heartbreaking story, but one of the few I've actually heard about the roma or sinti in ww2. So I am glad that this video popped up on my time line, I actually never knew Roma were of Indian descent. Thanks for spreading your people's story

I also never knew that the Romani people originated in India. Sadly in School we where never really thought about them, which I suppose isn't a surprise.
I am German, and this story is so incredibly sad. Not only that the Nazis killed Millions of people, but that also some of them enjoyed to mock them and be cruel to them before they died, and enjoyed to do so. It's an example of how evil humans can be.
I deeply apologize on behalf of my nation, and my own direct ancestors. I am very happy that in the last few years, our country took in a lot of refugees from all over the world, most recently from Ukraine. Because this is something good we can do to. Plus-when the Nazis would hate it, it's the right thing to do.
The things that happened to those girls family must not ever repeat

Romani are ex-Hindu people (they don’t have a particular religion now). Few hundred years ago! When bulla emperor enslaved thousands of Hindu people and took us to Afghanistan. En-route to Afghanistan, hundreds of Hindu people died due to cold whether. The mountain they died on is now called Hindu-kush (kush means death). Once the emperor died the slaves were released. The remaining Hindu people then migrated and stuck with each other. They did not say they were Hindu in fear of death. They then started their migration to Europe and lived there. There is no particular country for them now and no religion accepts them, they mostly live in poverty. During ww2, many Romani people were also executed by the nazis.

One of the community is called Lambani, they are very good looking, they used to travel but some have chosen to settle down now. I have tried to understand the same question from them and I realised that they simply love to travel the world but they do it with their entire family and community! How lovely is that .. just like all types of diverse people couldn't it be possible that after the foreign invasion of India your ancestors felt like exploring the earth outside India and there was no reason like war or starvation at all. It is evident that your ancestors were phenomenal explorers since they have travelled so far that too with entire families and communities and still have kept a way to be happy and merry all the time. Oh didn’t know there was a debate here. Gentlemen, hear me out: not to just fight with me but really hear me out. Here goes: Ancient India didn’t have the caste system, there existed the Varna system which is basically just categorisation of your profession. And it was flexible: son of a cowherd could become a king and a King could marry a fisherwoman. Don’t believe me? Examples abound in the Ramayan and the Mahabharat themselves. But ofcourse we are humans and we develop prejudice. In a culture like India where the word of elders are taken without questioning (that’s changing now), the prejudices of the elders are also internalized without question. That ofcourse led to the rigidity in the system BUT NOWHERE IN THE SCRIPTURES IS IT ORDAINED THAT IT IS TO BE FOLLOWED WITH RIGIDITY. But the term and current interpretation of the caste system is clearly European, not necessarily British (Caste comes from the Portuguese word “castas”).
My point is: if there still existed hope for the caste system to be overcome, the european colonisers eliminated any chance of salvation by taking advantage of it all and ofcourse then playing the ‘white saviours’.
Cultural failings: yes. Ofcourse we had cultural failings and that’s why we were colonised. But to assume that the caste system was interpreted correctly to this day and the blame squarely lies on Indian shoulders? No. The British obviously had a huge hand. Well they dominated the education system of India.

However I saw TH-cam videos showing the Romani dancing in Rajasthan. I watched videos about traditional Egyptian dancing. I was floored. My ex husband is Hindu and Classical Indian dancing is very different to the people in Rajasthan. Yet the traditional dancing of the Egyptians look very similar to the dancing of Romani in Rajasthan. Could any one explain why. I got my dad a book called Initiation by Elisabeth Haich. She talks about her life in Hungary and she talks about her past life in Egypt. She mentioned that some of the priests sailed away to India to protect the knowledge from falling into the wrong hands. I also spoke to a Hindu Psychiatrist and she told me that it is common knowledge that some of the Roma followed Kali Maa. I would be interested to see what other people thought.

During the time of 1300 AD, rhe islamic forces took control of their land and forced convert by the sword. The ones who converted live in present day Pakistan and the rest migrated west. Many captured slaves of muslim army who took hindu slaves were also freed in later era who again migrated to Europe for better pastures only to be persecuted even more. Ultimately they converted to christianity.

Don't you think Romani people have a very ancient connection with Romania?
Either the territory was named after them, or they were named after the territory.
And how far is Romania from Rome?
Saw a video that said ancient Roman script was very much Slavic and can be read easily, as opposed to it being projected as illegible.

    • @ananicoleta8000
      @ananicoleta8000 ปีที่แล้ว +13

@@ndahiya3730 Ok, so, there is a lot to discuss here and I see that there is some confusion as well so I'll do my best to explain and clarify.
Romani people WEREN'T named after Romania, nor was Romania named after them. The similarities between the names it's a pure coincidence. Romania is a country in Europe, Eastern Europe to be precise. The people who live there are called Romanians (NOT Romani) and they speak the Romanian language. The Romanian people are a Latin people, we are the descendants of the Romans and the Dacians (an ancient people native to Eastern Europe). The Dacians lived thousands of years ago on this land (the future Romania) until they were invaded by the Roman Empire (year 101-102 and 105-106 AD). The two languages (the language spoken by the Dacians and Latin, which was spoken by the Romans) combined and gave birth to a very early version of Romanian. Today's Romanian vocabulary is made out of 80% Latin words. So, to summarize, the Romanian people are LATIN people, speaking Romanian, a LATIN language, native to Europe, descendants of Romans and Dacians.
Now, Romani people are not European, unlike Romanians. They come from India, their language is similar to Hindu (therefore no similarities between the Romani language and Romanian language), and their culture different from the Romanian culture. They left their native country hundreds of years ago (between 8th century and 10th century) and came here, to Europe, searching for a better life. Instead, the Europeans enslaved them. Romania was one of the countries that turned the Romani people into slaves and only at the end of the 1800s (after hundreds of years) was the slave trade abolished. Even after they were free however, they were still discriminated and ostracized by the Romanian people. Now, there are many Romani people living in Romania because they spent hundreds of years being enslaved here.
So, again, a short summary: Romanians = Europeans, Latin people, Latin language. Romani people = came from India, language similar to Hindu, when they arrived here in Europe they were enslaved (not just in Romania but in all of Europe) and after they were no longer slaves, they were systemically discriminated (even today, racism towards them is very strong). The Romani people are spread all over Europe (like I said before, they were not just enslaved in Romania and they don't live just there) and they have citizenship in those countries (e.g. A Romani person in Romania has Romanian citizenship, a Romani person living in Poland has Polish citizenship etc.), but ethnically, they are sill Romani, with a different culture and their own language (however, they still speak the language of the country they leave in, like Polish or Romanian or Bulgarian etc.)
Now, regarding the 'how far is Rome from Romania' question, the easiest way to find out is to google it :) To give you an idea though, Rome is the capital city of Italy, located in Southern Europe, and Romania is a country in Easter Europe.
And finally, about the Slavic documents. There are no ROMAN Slavic documents. All Roman documents are eritten in Latin. However, there are ROMANIAN Slavic documents (Roman is not the same as Romanian, like I've explained above). The reason why there are Romanian documents written in Slavic is because the Romanian language and culture was heavily influenced by the Slavic peoples (given the fact that Romania was located in the East where most Slavic people found themselves). Therefore, during the middle ages, Romanians used the Cyrillic alphabet to write (instead of the Latin one) and the official language was not Romanian but Slavonian. And yes, Romanians can understand Old Romanian, because they are very similar, but we can't read the Curillic alphabet or understand Slavonian or other Slavic languages.
Hope this helps. Sorry if there is a lot of information or if I confused you, I tried to explain as best as I could. If you have any more questions, you can ask, feel free, but remember that I'm not an expert and you can always find better sources on the Internet or in books :)

Recently I watched a podcast of an Indian historian, who discussed the Romani people, and how and when they migrated from India to Europe. He stated that (many of these are in Ian Hancock's book "we are the Romani people").
    1. The variants of Romani language "sound" like the amalgamation of the languages used in Western states of India, Punjabi, Rajasthani and Gujarati, so mostly the present day Romani people's ancestors were from the western most regions of India, which makes sense.
2.The Flamenco dance has Romani origins, it evolved in Spain, Southern Spain to be precise. The Romani people there are called "Gitanos".
    3. Due to the Romani people being marginalised even today, the bulk of the Romani population pretty much live a nomadic lifestyle. (But not all, like most professional Romani people)
    4. In the 9th century or (approx. 1000 years ago) India had various Turkic invasions, mostly during the "Abbasid Caliphate", and they repeatedly attacked the Indian subcontinent (of course from the west).
This brings me to the 1. point, where these invaders enslaved a lot of people from the Western states of Gujarat, Rajasthan and Punjab and took them through present day Afghanistan, through the Hindukush mountains. This name also originated during this time, a bit of a tragic name as HinduKush is made up of two words (Hindu+kush) where "kush" means death.
    5. All these enslaved people were taken for different reasons women & children - obvious. Also artisans, dancers and performers were in considerable population.
    6. But then later, due to harsher climates, and obvious lack of food and shelter in the dry regions, the Turkic invaders found out that they cannot sustain these people anymore.
Hence, they were shown the door. For some reason, they were directed towards the north, not their homeland. Maybe it was their own decision and did not wish to experience Hindukush 2.0 idk.
    7. These people then settled (or lived as nomads) in different parts of Europe. And the early migrators mixed the regional culture with the Indian one, for example the "Kali Sara" in France.
    8. Also, considerable camps during ww2 had Romani population, but no one talks about them.

Nations' kings don't share common race with $laves, commoners. Trib@ls don't give birth to conquerors. Shatriya Arya, Ezyptian, Mesopotamian are only martial races.

Whites trib@ls (Celt, Vened or old Slavic) aren't IE/Aryas or warrior race, no evidence of native language. Let alone riding chariot, didnt even ride horse. Roman labelled them subhum@n. IBN Fadlan described yellow haired are f!lthiest of God's creation. Till 10th c. r@ping, hum@n s@crifice were their custom. Stark contrast of people in a continent confirms different races. Whites aren't martial race but they @nnihilate weakers, they've @nnihilated native Euros. Roman, Saka, Sauromata, Alani, Hun Aryas could do the same with whites but didn't. In last 1k years Aryas in west assimilating with whites commited gen0cides of American, African, Asian, Australian. Hiroshima nuking, WW1/2. British rulers who are Arya R1a1a/R1a1Y l00ted $45 tril. alone from India & feeding white p@rasites leaving over 10 mil. starved to death. West isn't one race. Stark difference in civiliation confirms different races. There are Aryas, Celts, Veneds, Phonecian-Etruscan from Middle East, Negroids from sub Sahara, some C.Asian, some native Euros, Gypsies, Mongoloids.
      ++++++++
Shatriyas are founder of Buddhism, Jainism, Sikhism. Shatriya Buddha, Mahavira, Ashoka TG, Kurus TG are the greats no race on earth could give birth. Abrahamic religions are existing because Kurus TG saved Judaism from extinction, he's the only non-Jews regarded "messiah" in Judaism. Literature of all civiliations combined can't reach half of Vedic. RgVeda is the oldest IE literature. 40% Earth's population speak Arya languages. Aryas who surpass even great Mesopotamian, Ezyptian can't originate from civilizationless Steppe. Oldest chariot found in "Sinauli" India. None ever rode Chariot in Steppe. Vedics=Aryas=IE.

Mother India is in many ways the mother of us all."

I'm Afghan, this was very fascinating to watch! Here are my initial thoughts:
    1) When referring to anyone from a "musician" caste, my father would sometimes use the word "ddamān" (retroflex dd). -ān is the Iranic person plural. So to see a link between ddam and Roma is fascinating to me
    2) Mahmoud of Ghazni sounds like a Muslim Genghis Khan. I'm kinda wary of Wikipedia though because I know there are many, many, many trolls from India who work overtime to spread misinformation about Muslims (which is unfortunate; prior to the BJP my default understanding of Indians were a chill, polite people, and still is; but online it's something else entirely...). My point about the Genghis Khan comparison is that people easily look back at his exploits and see and understand them for their time, whereas they apply a double standard to Mahmoud.
    3) Related to the above point about the BJP, it seems as though the Indian government would prefer theory 1 over 2 because it would support their Hindu-supremacist narrative where Hinduism is the ideal way of life etc, and Muslims are an existence to constantly beat. I wouldn't put any weight behind their actions given their biases. Also, I'm curious -- the Indian government recognises the Roma people's ancestral link to India -- would they now encourage a kind of mission to convert you back into Hinduism? They do this to Muslim and Christian minorities under a program called "ghar wapsi" ("returning home"). So, be wary of that, too.
Thank you for making such a clear and fascinating video! I can't help but wonder if migration was actually quite normal and commonplace throughout the history of humanity, however we especially note where it happened en mass, rather than with just individuals or small families.

When Roma Gypsies first came to Europe in Greece,(this days Turkey) they were known as "Egyptians" due to their "says" or stories that claimed that they came from Little Egypt and where originally slaves of the Egyptian Pharaohs. We called us Roman Egyptians ,becose EGYPT was part of Roman empire ,ROMAN REPUBLIC . In Greece the called us ROMANO GITANOS- ROMAN EGYPTIAN- ROMA GYPSY ....How did Egypt become Roman?
. The rich lands of Egypt became the property of Rome ,Roman republic ,after the death of Cleopatra VII in 30 BCE, which spelled the end of the Ptolemaic dynasty that had ruled Egypt since the death of Alexander the Great in 323 BCE. After the murder of Gaius Julius Caesar in 44 BCE, the Roman Republic was left in turmoil. (32-30 BC) was the last civil war of the Roman Republic, fought between Mark Antony (assisted by Cleopatra and by extension Ptolemaic Egypt) and Octavian. In 32 BC, Octavian convinced the Roman Senate to declare war on the Egyptian queen Cleopatra. after the end of Slavery in EGYPT , soon started first century we become follow jesus CHIST .christianity was the only religion we had ,( NO budha ,or hinduizm. or other Gods as KRISHNA ) !!!

The caste based oppression does make sense because though the nomadic artist castes that are known to travel between Rajasthan, Gujarat and other parts of NW India, they are still discriminated against, and so have beem designated as OBC or other backward caste in some states or even scheduled tribes/adivasi (not necessarily Dalits) and are thus entitled to reservation in schools colleges and public sector jobs. The Vanjara or Banjara castes or even the Rudalis are an example of scheduled tribes. And just to end with an interesting fact, the Rudalis have the ancestral job of being funeral criers, and are called when a person dies to help the family mourn and tell society what a great loss it is to them and the community.
PS. Love your videos, and I've learnt so much about Romani culture from you.

Yes discrimination against those castes exist, but they did not leave India because of it. They had to move out of India due to invasions from Arab-Turkic Islamic kingdoms, a theory further supported by history written by Iranians on how Romanis came to Iran and Middle east.
