I inherited 3 vases. Thank-you for this information. Now I know they are Satsuma. They have been in my family for over 80 years. Its been a struggle trying to find their age.
Wow Josh. Well done. Really appreciate your willingness to share tips about antiques. It actually helps the collector community being better informed. Feel free to share any insights when you get time. Do you take requests of subject material? Thanks
3:26!! It looks almost exactly like my Satsuma Vase.... It was appraised for $10k in 1997... Do you have any idea where I can get a current appraisal, and perhaps find a buyer? Thank you for a GREAT video!

I have a pair that I think may be from the Edo Period. They have no markings, are ceramic, have fine crazing, and are pale green in colour with a simple floral design. Absolutely beautiful to look at. I just need to get them appraised.
Thank you very much for this informative video! I am currently looking into a satsuma incense burner and it does indeed have the 山 signature. Do you have any literature recommendations on the san signature that I could look into for more infos?
Thank you for commenting!!! Although most pieces were signed you will occasionally find pieces with no markings or markings that have worn away. Feel free to visit our website at chamberlainantiques.com and send us some images. Josh will be happy to take a look and share his thoughts.

I found this very helpful but I still can’t find the markings from the vase I have. There is a square marking on the bottom of the vase, and an oval marking on the back of the vase. The markings are both red, does that matter? Thanks, Claire
Hi Mr thanks for all information is great .I have a 18 cm qianlong nian zhi plate porcelain and I need ideas if possible your Émail . Good luck Mr and thank you very much
I recently found a Nippon vase heavily painted in 22kt. Unfortunately, sometime in its life it took a spill from its shelf. Damn cats! It broke one of the handles off. But somebody thought enough of this vase to repair it. There are 3 breaks in the handle and the closest to the neck a well hidden chip. Is it worth having it professionally restored? How much can I expect to pay for the restoration? What is the difference in value from perfect undamaged condition, to damaged unrestored value, to professionally restored value. I can send pics to your email.
I have a piece of pottery that I'm not sure if it's real or not. I would like to have it looked at by someone who knows but dont have money to burn. Any help would be ice have a pic of the bottom if that will help.
It has certainly been quite a while since our last upload but this year we will be back in a big way. We already have many more videos in the works that will be coming out soon. Thank you for following!!!!
So a vase with a sticker that says Japan and word satsuma written with flowers overhead is fake then ? I have had this vase since the 70’s and never even thought it might be fake .
Very instructive, thank you. (Only, I would suggest that perhaps you might want to take a look at how the Japanese names are pronounced correctly.. It´s very easy, actually...)
Well, that was informative! I inherited a Satsuma tea set in cobalt blue. It's probably not worth a lot of money, but I still love it!
Me: “I’m going to go to bed on time today!” Also me: *ends up watching youtube videos about 19th century Japanese pottery at 4 in the morning*
This was awesome. Great delivery, informative, good photos, great compilation, and well made video. Love the outtakes too! Lol.
