    Regarding electric fences, the electricity had to make a complete circuit between the wire and the ground, usually through a living creature. Possible reasons for no zap include:
    - If you're wearing rubber boots
    - If the grass is tall enough to touch the fence, and is earthing it so it doesn't flow through you.

      Electric fences are a perfect example of why women live longer, I touched an electric fence while in the company of some female friends, after the inevitable shock they asked me why I touched it, and I replied that I didn't think it was on. They all proceeded to give me the look that women reserve for stupid men, and then left me to walk home.

    Electric fence can be set to how hard you want it to zap, depending on what animals you're trying to keep in. I was watering horses one time, something crashed behind me and i turned and moved the water onto the fence, and the fence was set for some very stupid horses, so big and dumb = big zap...then i ran it through water and into me, it put me on the ground and bruised my ribs from how hard i shoved my elbows into them when it zapped me. Your "light tickle" is usually for smarter and/or smaller animals who just need reminded to back off, instead of told "GET AWAY!"

    8:45 The fence didn't zap you, because electricity goes where it reaches the ground, that can be your body/legs, but probably you wore thick shoes made out of some plastic, that's not conductive, so the electricity couldn't reach the ground through your body, that's why you bare felt it. On a side note, if the electricity hd gone through your arms back to the cable you would have felt it, but human body is less conductive than the metal wire. Everyone, please excuse me for the improper terminology, I just wanted the get the point through.

    The way it was explained to me, when I was learning electrical theory, is as follows. "Electricity likes closed shapes, like circles. As long as it doesn't have to stop, electricity is happy. But electricity hates dead ends. If you give it a dead end, it will get mad and hurt you."
    This was the instructor who liked teaching the class like we were idiots, because we had a couple of class clowns who genuinely were idiots.

    The electrical fence bit at the end: in the video: the guy in the yellow shirt is a comedian. (i think something like "frenchy" or so, he's got a YT chanel) And why it only tickled you: have you got dry skin? If the touching skin has a lot of resistance (is dry instead of sweaty hands) it can be that not much current is flowing -> only tickeling.

    There are types of electric fences that require you to touch at least two of the wires to get shocked. Others simply shoot pulses through the wires, and if you are touching it at all, then you will get shocked. Most electric fences have such a small amount of amps running through it that they can't actually hurt you.

  • @coleedward9642
    @coleedward9642 ปีที่แล้ว

    It probably didn't zap you because it didn't have a high enough voltage going through. Also, if you touch it, ALWAYS KEEP ONE ARM TO YOUR SIDE. Electricity tries to find the fastest way to the ground. And if you leave your arm to the side, it is more likely to go down the side of you, rather than across your chest and shock your heart and kill you. This is also the reason birds don't get electrocuted. They aren't touching the ground, so the electricity doesn't go through them. So you could jump and touch the line as long as you let go before you hit the ground, and you won't get shocked. Long story short, DON'T TOUCH ANYTHING METAL WITH ELECTRICITY GOING THROUGH IT IF YOU OR SOMETHING YOU'RE ON IS TOUCHING THE GROUND.

    The only story I have involving an electric fence...When I was little, my family and some friends were at a friend's place that had an electric fence around their neighbor's property. My brother went to go pee, while we were waiting we suddenly heard a loud grunt and looked over to where he was. He peed on the electric fence close enough that some electricity travelled up the stream and tingled his pickle. That day we learned what electric fences were and not to pee on them...Or touch them.

    • @Astraeus..

      When I was little (4ish) we had a few horses at home. The outside enclosure was a basic wooden pole fence with one line of electric just inside to "discourage" them if they got too close (since realistically if horses want out, they're GONNA get out, almost regardless of the fence). Anyway, one day my father convinces me to grab on to the fence at one point (probably showed me him doing it). I grabbed and....nadda. Nothing. So of course in my 4-year old brain I thought "I'm immune to electricity!"...
      A few days later a family member (can't recall who) was over to visit and me, being extra excited at my super powers, RAN out with them to show off my trick....ran out completely barefoot in the early morning on very wet grass, and I grabbed onto that fence with both hands...
      Needless to say, I was shown a "trick" but what my douchebag father neglected to bother telling me is that it only worked at the time cause I was wearing fu@$ing rubber boots....fun stuff....

    Amber: it didn't zap you because electricity finds the shortest path, and the path between your arms via the electrical conductor is far shorter than that of going up your arm, through your body and back out again. - do the same thing but cutting the fence in the middle and you'd be in a lot of pain.

    I guess the voltage will determine the shock most often. The cow farm lines pack a decent punch, while the fence at a baby lion petting pen tickles lightly if say you accidentally pull your hand out it's mouth to quickly 😅

  • @r.j.bedore9884
    @r.j.bedore9884 ปีที่แล้ว

    The fence shocks you because the electricity passes through you to the ground. If you had really good insulating shoes the resistance through you to ground may have been too high to give you a shock.

    • @Undeference
      @Undeference ปีที่แล้ว

      I suspect it was some combination of this, dry skin, dry earth, lower voltage fencing, possibly a lower resistance path elsewhere. Typical electric fences are 8kV-10kV, so good shoes-presumably not rated for electrical hazards-likely wouldn't have made all the difference on their own.

  • @RS-fy9hb
    @RS-fy9hb ปีที่แล้ว

    Those electric fences remind me of the good times xD. When someone had a birthday that lived close to some electric fences, we'd line up and hold hands, to create a long ass chain, and then connect the circuit, and you'd feel as if your joints were trying to dislodge xD. The reason why it didn't hurt for you, is probably because it wasn't very high electricity, and then the short travel path.

    The electric fence probably didn't zap you because your shoes insulated you enough to prevent a circuit. Electric fences use the literal ground as the return path for electricity, so you need to be connected to the fence and the ground at the same time to get zapped.

    My dad would always tell me to go touch electric fances. Because in his words "why are not that bad" Then when i say no. He would take my hand and touch it himself. So i would get the shock...
    ... No wonder i got trust issues now a days...

    It didn't zap you because you were completing the circuit with both arms touching. It's just going through you and back to the wire. Same principle as when a bird is sitting on a wire. You get zapped when it goes through you to the ground. With just 1 hand on there, it can't get back to the wire and goes through you to the ground.

      Not true - she isn't completing the circuit with both arms - the electricity had no need to go through her arms when it had metal wire to go through.
      Likely reason would be that the earth rod from the electric fence charger wasn't so good and/or Amber had boots that insolated well plus dry soil.

      @subwarpspeed actually ya. Electricity is lazy and always takes the path of least resistance to ground. Much easier going through the wire. My bad. Not enough coffee yet I guess 😂🤣

      @subwarpspeed but only easier because, like you said, she likely had on insulating shoes/boots.

    You probably had rubber soles which prevented the electricity from grounding through you. I remember in agriculture class in high school they had cows with an electric fence at the school. One class we all took turns touching the fence and it was just a little shock. Then of course I decided to grab a metal pole in the ground next to the fence with one hand and the fence with the other. Got knocked on my ass by it passing through me into the pole. It was fun though.
