I had totally forgotten about this one! I LOVED this game as a kid. Thanks for blowing the dust out of my memory's cartridge!

It's OK for a Boomer game.

I really like the work you've done with this project, Jeremy! It's really great to revisit these games - and to finally see real gameplay from some of the ones I never got to play. So many of these games were just boxart and a couple of screenshots to me.

I saw this game featured in a short segment in gccx the other day and frantically went looking for footage and information about it, although to not much success. But now a gameboy world about it really gave me what I was looking for. The idea behind this series seems to be working out :)

I was always intrigued by this game as a kid, seeing advertisements in game magazines, but never knowing quite what it was, or why this "Boomer" character was supposed to be so compelling. Also, what on earth was an "Asmik World", aside from the developer trying to bolster their own name? Ah, the ignorance of youth.

I bought this game along with some others at a flea market about 6 years ago. I initially thought it was a weird game. I still have it, maybe I'll give it another try!

I got this and my Gameboy on the same Christmas. I actually kind of liked this game quite a bit.

Heiankyo Alien is such a primordial video game that I'm surprised its influence didn't spread much beyond Japan. It and Door Door, which were both absolute smash successes as their original PC/Famicom versions, just sort of sank until being recently dug back up by folks like Mindware.
By the way, have you played Mindware's Heiankyo Alien? I keep being tempted to get it, it certainly looks like one of those true trance-like arcade experiences.

This game also seems similar to Nichibutsu's "Kid no Hore Hore Daisakusen" (a TurboGrafx-16 version called it "Cratermaze" but is also sometimes called "Booby Kids"), at last with the trapping of the enemies in holes in a maze.

The "quadrupedal Q*Berts" are actually clearly bipedal, standing on only two legs. I'd say a more apt description is "armless Birdos."

Ahhh I was rummaging through a pile of game boy games at a retro shop and saw heiankyo alien... I couldn't remember what it was...

I wondered how long it would take Parish to get one. I bought one as soon as it came out, and threw my original SGB in the trash :p

I had this game. Played it a lot on the commute back and forth to my parents every other weekend. Kept me very occupied. Not a bad game at all

What a weird game. I owned a Game Boy pretty early on and never even heard of it. Still it looks kinda fun and I wouldn't mind trying it one day

I got this because of the box art, I wanted a messily drawn game. Alas, can't judge a game by its cover. Boomer's famicom game is pretty fun, but playing rock paper scissors seemed pretty random

Strangely, I owned both this and Heiankyo Alien as a kid. Having picked both of them out specifically after reading about them in Nintendo Power. Although in the end I didn't really dig either of them.

When I saw this I thought it was a home brew game where you play an old man telling kids to get off his lawn
