“Although most of us know Gabriel Pierne as a composer, he also had a long and distinguished career as the conductor of the Colonne Orchestra in Paris. During his 22 years in this position, he conducted the premieres of many works by influential composers such as Debussy, Ravel and Stravinsky, including the world premiere of Stravinsky's Firebird at the Paris Opera in 1910. Of conducting, Pierné once said, ''To read a score, weigh up its merits with your instinct, infallible sense of science and good taste; to reason, to compare, to understand and admire, this gives true satisfaction."
The Solo de Concert is the first of two solo bassoon works that Pierné was commissioned to write for the Paris Conservatoire concours (the other being his Prélude de concert sur un thème de Purcell, Op.53). Intended to show off the ability of the player, the Solo de Concert is a vibrant piece full of excitement and energy. It opens with a dramatic theme in D minor, which is contrasted by a passionate espressivo section and a light, playful scherzando before coming to a triumphant end in D major." @@maanavswaminathan4593 I play a modern German bassoon and that is either a very bad player or a french bassoon 😂 bassoon doesn't mean bassoon u gotta be specific 😂

@@eddastroutspear8314 wtf do u mean bassoon doesn’t mean bassoon? That is literally what it means. I don’t think that specificity is exactly necessary in this situation taking the question into consideration. French bassoons and German bassoons are not very different in terms of sound produced. While there are slight nuances in the sounds, they are extremely similar, so saying that the player is either very bad or on a French bassoon doesn’t make much sense. It would sound similar on either version of the instrument.

@@maanavswaminathan4593 as someone who plays bassoon a french and German Bassoon is a HUGE difference! Just the sound alone! Of course it's a difference!
