Hey Ryan! Most good roasters have an airtight sealed bag which will help it last a bit longer. If not there are some great options to store coffee, we could make a video on this?

Coffee drinkers, the expert on coffee is you. It might be the way shown in the video, or your own way. Here is my way with French press. I use a tablespoon of fine ground coffee per coffee mug of water. This comes to 10-12 grams of coffee per 250 ml of hot water. I eyeball it. I use boiling hot water. After putting the coffee and water in the french press, I let it sit but don't time it. Not necessary in my view. I have training in coffee cupping. In blind tests I cupped French press coffee comparing my normal routine with letting the boiling water sit before brewing it, timing the brew (coffee plus water) for a few minutes before drinking it, mixing the coffee and water in the french press and skimming. The difference was negligible, coffee that was mixed before final preparation and sat longer was a bit more acidic. That's a good thing, if you prefer it. I like my coffee as hot as humanly possible.
What makes the most difference is the quality and freshness of the coffee, using fine ground coffee and filtered water. And making the coffee in the way you prefer. Remember, 1 heaping tablespoon per coffee mug (10-12 g coffee per 250 ml hot water)

Personally, I prefer clever brewer. Much easier to clean with similar results! French press can brew 8 cups compared to 2 or 3 in clever, thats one advantage.

Yeah, French Press is great for groups! Perhaps we need a video on the clever dripper?

Is the ratio done by weight? Lets say 20grams of coffee to 300 grams of water? Or is it by volume say two tablespoons of coffee to 15 floz of water?

Yeah, the ratio is always done by weight, so grams of water (which is the same as ml's). So yeah, with what you've got that would be a 1:15 ratio. Once you've measured you could switch to something more easy to measure. To be honest, it doesn't have to be 100% perfect, as long as you're close, it should be delicious!

I am in the coffee business and do cupping (testing coffee quality). We measure it by grams per ml, the simplest way. In my french press, I use a heaping tablespoon of fine ground coffee per coffee mug of boiling hot filtered water. This comes to 10-12 grams of fine ground coffee per 250 ml (8.4 floz) of water. Easy. I have tried letting the boiling water cool beforehand, letting the coffee and water sit in the french press for different lengths of time, mixing it before pushing down the plunger. Did some blind cupping. The difference was negligible in my view. What is most important is that it is a fine grind, the coffee is fresh and high quality and the water is filtered. But there is no right way. Try a bigger tablespoon of coffee, or smaller one, more or less coffee. You are the expert.
