Thank you! This video is very helpful for a new amputee.

Thanks for the tips, I put my jeans on by putting my leg in and pull/ scrunch my pants leg up over my stump, put my leg into the socket and then just pull the pants leg down over my prosthetic, no need to fight getting your foot through the pants leg...

I do the same when I’m wearing jeans, but I’m above knee amputee. Found your videos yesterday, it’s great that you document your journey, thank you!

You are so amazing, inspiring, and encouraging! Thank you so much for your videos. I’m a new amputee (LBK) and this video helped me so much. I haven’t worn jeans since I lost my leg in March 2020. I just had my 9th surgery in less than 1 year. This last one was a revision. So as soon as I am walking again, I’m going to get a new pair of jeans, a shoe horn, and some cute flats🤗. Please keep posting videos when you are able. Sincerely, Karen

I started with a wheelchair too but have not used one for the last 5 years of 15 years as an amputee. I pop my leg on for everything and crutch when i have a limb wound.

The doors I find the hardest are the ones with the super heavy sping/hydraulic settings when opening. Where you try to open and they just pull you in or when closing they shut on you because you just don't have the leverage of a person on 2 feet!

    • @AnnikatheAmputee
      @AnnikatheAmputee  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

I definitely find that true for me too! Every once in a while I do find a door that I NEED an able bodied person to help open. But I'm just glad there have always been people around to help

You’re awesome. Coming from a guy just like you. Btk amputee. Thanx for your wit and everything else. Our amputations were only 2 weeks Apart. You’re coming along much better than me. But you’re a young’n. I’m a young’n in my mind. Be well. You’re already swell!

I cringed when I saw you walking down the stairs. As an offshore worker here in the UK we are told to ALWAYS hold the handrail. That is because if you need to be hospitalised and that has happened, it is at least a 2 hour delay until a chopper can come and take you to Aberdeen hospital. I have been pulled by the OIM (Offshore Installation Manager (God!)) you weren't holding the handrail. A definite case for a {STOP} card safety observation. I liked your presentation and style. I could watch more of your videos and hopefully can keep both my legs until I pass on.

This info is great for people with unaltered limbs too, because it makes you think about how your use your various joints in things. Also keeping one hand free to stabilize when entering a shower tub seems like a good idea for everybody. THANKS.....

Your method of walking down the stairs looks the same as what I had to learn to do when I broke the 5th metatarsal in my foot last Summer. Walking book wouldn't let my foot or ankle bend, so some of the same range of motion restrictions. This has been very enlightening. A lot of it seems so simple once explained, but I can definitely see having issues with doors without seeing your methods first.

That was a cool video! Funny as an amputee of 11 years I've never liked using a wheelchair for some reason🤔 you make it look easy though. Have to admit after hearing about some people I know take serious falls in the shower standing on 1 foot I'm always nervous and use a shower chair/stool to sit down and stand occasionally for a minute. I might try your method though... looks pretty stable and safe 👍 thanks for sharing

I totally get it! I have some amputee friends who like it, and some who don't. Im just grateful that I have the opportunity to choose!
But good luck and dont fall! I havent fallen IN the shower, but I fell once when I was being careless getting out of it

@@AnnikatheAmputee most definitely be careful and safe. Since I don't have a wheelchair I was using my crutches 1 time without my prosthetic leg and hit a wet spot on the floor and went down hard! Not fun at all LOL

What changes occur in your body as an amputee? Like muscular changes? Do you feel like your other foot has adapted? Do you feel like your back has gotten stronger?

I found a local seamstress who sows 20 inch zippers into my jeans. It's easy to put on pants this way. She only charges me $25 to do it. I suggest finding a local seamstress and do this. Much cheaper than taking it to a business with overhead.

Hi! I'm glad I was able to help. These are things I learned along the way. My skin is extremely sensitive and I actually wash my liner with baby shampoo and that helps prevent my skin from getting too irritated.
Sorry it took so long to respond! I hope you are getting along well with your new leg
