Slugs are attracted to the yeast in the beer , I just mix some bread yeast with water for bait. ….the Beer is for me 😊

Now this trap looks like one that will really work. I especially appreciate you showing us how to put the two containers together, so you can lift the one with the dead slugs out without having to throw out all of the beer each time...REUSABLE TRAPS...brilliant! Great footage of your step-by-step instructions, and the demonstration of how they work. Thank you so much. 💚😊💚

Like almost everyone here, I just want to say thank you for uploading content like these. I especially would like to thank you for your video on leaf miners since my basil plant has been dying these days and I just didnt know what was happening to it. The way you present yourself in your videos is also great. It feels as if we're just your friends and you're just casually sharing what you know. Thanks!

Your traps are superb. My slug recipe....
    1/2 tsp brewers yeast
    , 1 tsp sugar,
    2 T flour
    2 c tepid water.
    Mix together, pour into
    containers,
    set in garden. Replace
    as needed.
Drink fresh beer while dragging out the bodies.

Great design for a beer trap! Definitively going to try it because my garden is full of snails.
Also I read that on winter/spring there are only a few snails on the garden, so if you get rid of them then, they won't reproduce (every snail can put up to 500 eggs) and you 'll reduce the population by a lot. Going to try this winter to see the next summer if it reduces them once for all

I find also just laying an untreated board/log flat on the ground next to the plants and lifting it up every day to grab the slugs works great! They hide under there when they aren't eating I guess. Not super feasible if you have a massive garden and/or not much empty ground space, but it's definitely helped!

Keep it up, thanks for these tips, i have some major slug problems at home. I have started my garden and my second night i have found an army of slugs attacking! iv captured and shot around 20 over my garden fence.

PS, are you aware of the bug watch?
bigbughunt.com/ You may need to paste it into your browser. It might be more helpful later in the season, so you know bugs are coming your way. Obviously everybody gets slugs this time of year, but not everyone gets spider mites, etc..Hope you like it, I found it interesting, but not great pics of all stages of worms and moths (for ID purposes)

In communicating with the Bug Hunt ppl, They would love photos of bugs if you have some good ones. (Lofty task for one gardener with a camera)...If we ALL sent them good photos, we could help them out with those that don't know what they look like in various stages, ie, cutworms...at the worm stage and at the moth stage. THen we can utilize the correct organic remedy, right? (that is if you're interested) Another PS: Love your videos and your greenhouse area is really cool. You got me to plant Nasturtiums this yr (haven't in a while) keep em coming.. :D

Great design. I used something similar and ended up here trying to find a design that works better. Yours is perfect for my needs thank you.
I use a mixture of dry dog kibble and water in my traps with great success. A dozen kibble in a cup of water, let it sit until the kibble dissolves and scrape it out any floating chunks to avoid mold. Change it out every week or so and slugs will line up to dye.
Most people don't know about the hazards of slugs in outdoor dog bowls. I learned the hard way and I figured I'd use that to my advantage.

Good job. Thank you for the demonstration of everything. I have a suggestion to use instead of beer.I have been fermenting wheat and barley for chicken feed for a while, by leaving then in a bucket of water for about three days (depending on the temperature). The water becomes bubbly and fuzzy. When I misplaced an empty bucket (with the lip down containing a little leftover barley and water)in the garden there where slugs in it. Never thought however,up to this day to create a slug trap. Seems like I will end up with more chicken feed rich in protein...

i know this is quite an old video, but it's still very relevant and informative :) first time i've seen the "double-walled" design - makes it easier to remove and dispose of the slugs, nice one :)
one tip i would add, is to put a couple of small twigs in the trap, poking out of the "slots", to allow any unfortunate beetles that fall in a way to escape, without allowing the slugs to do so too. >_

Your slug traps are the best I've found and used. Unfortunately I've been defeated by some clever animal, squirrel I suspect. It managed to get into my cabbage cage, took out the traps including the lids, drank the beer and discarded the traps on the path. I tried again last night, this time placed bricks on top of traps, and it again tunnelled under the cage, took traps and drank beer.

This was an exceptionally good trap idea. I also like Bunty's Blog for these kinds of solutions. She uses corncobs after having corn on the cob for dinner. You just set them out in the early evening and then go out before bed and the cobs are absolutely crawling with slugs. You pick them up with gloves on and shake them off in a pot of recently boiling water which kills them instantly. She also inspects her plants and any that she sees she has a pair of "slug scissors" and simply cuts them in half. No big deal if the leaf gets cut a little bit. I use the scissors idea a lot, but I will start using the various traps too. We have an exceptional lot of slugs and I am not fond of them at all.

Probably any kind of food scrap would probably do though as they seem to like plant matter that is starting to brown up the best. If you don't have corncobs on hand.
