I carry my gx-4 full time and love it. Small, compact, trigger is amazing the grips texture is great. I've owned plenty of other conceal carry guns but this has been by far my favorite. Just don't pass this one up if you have the opportunity to try it, I think it will surprise you.
While I'm riding my bike I carry a Sig P938. It's 2 ounces lighter than the GX4, I suspect because of the single stack mag VS the double stack. I do want a GX4 for the added capacity.
Mine came with a broken slide stop spring and would inadvertently lock back with rounds in the magazine. Taurus fixed it in less than 2 weeks and it has been flawless ever since. Love my GX4!
I ordered a 13 round OEM magazine. It seems like the perfect compromise. The 15 round magazine seems to be a little long, the pinky extension is too small. Having 2 extra rounds is a nice bonus as well.
Already owning a Glock 26 and Kahr CM9 I can't really justify buying one of the double digit capacity micro 9s. But it's good to know that Taurus is making an excellent one at a price most people can afford. I've owned 3 Taurus revolvers (though never one of their semi-autos) and had 0 problems with them.
Ah…..miss my CM9….. had it worked over and so polished I could sling shot it rather than lock open and use slide release. Even found the extra mag the other day…

I wouldn't go quite that far, as Taurus auto pistols were a little rough back in the day, but their modern line has really come a long way! I think Heritage Rough Rider's would be just about perfect if they'd lose the goofy little manual safety, but I understand why they don't. I have a couple of them, and prefer them to the Ruger Wrangler. Thanks for sharing!

Totally enamored with the GX4 and I own a number of the Micro's. Never owned a Taurus in my many years of shooting, but this gun is top dog for sure. I no longer carry the Sig 365. This gun shoot shoots better and a lot better grip. Like the Glock it has few parts, (less than 50), a steel chassis and love the trigger especially for a EDC small gun. I also purchased a spare Toro receiver for $149.00 which was a bonus. I put on a Fusion (Glock Compatible) front night sight. Bravo to Taurus, they really have done a fantastic job. PS I now have over $1,000 rds through this gun without one single issue. Thanks for the review. Keep em coming.
I've shot maybe 300 rounds through mine, when I did come across an issue. The last 20 we're using extreme defender 90 +p, and the front sight post screw sheared from the base, and flew off into the great beyond. Taurus shipped me a new one, but the process was difficult and there were many issues I had to remedy to get the replacement. It has been 100% reliable, the trigger has been great, and is extremely versatile for carry. Over all a great option.
Its always been accurate and reliable. And for the price ive been very happy with that and its performance. They have some quality control issues sometimes but i think overall its a steal.
Because of my build it’s hard for me to conceal carry a 9mm without printing like crazy. So I’ve been carrying my ruger LCP that conceals really well. I’m 5’6” on a good day with a bad knee and torn bicep that never went back to full strength hence why I carry everywhere I go in this crazy world. A fist fight I can easily lose that I would have easily won prior to my injuries. Getting old too. I saw the GX4 right after I overpaid for a G3C last year when supply was short. The G3C printed like crazy so I still carried my LCP. Once I took the GX4 to the range. Ran a hundred rounds and had a couple jams right out of the box. Took it home and gave it a good cleaning and lubed it up and a few hundred rounds later goes bang every time. No issues. It conceals very well for a smaller frame man like myself. Also I know those with larger hands have a pinky drop off but the standard mag fits my hand perfectly. Carrying my LCP with Precision Ammo (the best personal defense ammo IMO) I always had reservations about the stopping power and small ammo capacity. Opinions vary but carrying the 9mm I no longer have those doubts about dropping an aggressor. I’m going to look into a higher capacity magazine and pinky extender maybe. That may cause it to print more. See what it looks like at academy sports. GX4 price was awesome and I’ll keep it for life and it will remain my daily carry.
I absolutely love the gx4. I’ve lost count of how many rounds I’ve run through it, but I’ve had zero failures. That little pistol does what it’s supposed to do every single time. I think it’s arguably the best micro 9 on the market. I’ve heard that it was designed by one of the designers of the p365. I haven’t been able to confirm this though. Either way, it’s a great piece for edc and I have no problem trusting it when it matters. Great review.

All 3 are solid choices. I carry my P365 most days, but switch to the GX4 if I'm doing something that might jeopardize the cosmetics. I have a G26 as well, which I used to think was small enough for pocket carry. 🤣 Thanks for sharing!

I agree with your stance on the GX4 dead trigger issue it's true that all new production firearms have failures I mean heck even SIGs beloved P365 had there firing pins breaking off on launch. As for the man who shot himself everyone who has even basic knowledge on firearms is if a round does not go off you wait a few good seconds aiming down range and then drop the mag and remove the dud and then inspect you firearm.
And I gotta say this for anybody that reads this that I have big hands and bought the extension that is 13 And 1 and it works great but I found out that if you put on the added stock grip that comes with your pistol it will actually lock you hand in much better with just the normal 11 and 1 mags that come with your gun now that's how I carry mine all the time

When it shoots it awesome. 4 different mags and jams with round nose and hollow points. Various types and brands of each. Slide doesn’t always go all the way forward when cycling either
As a Glock guy, my Glock 26 has always given me the best accuracy. I attribute this to the Glock “hump” on the grip. I was pleasantly surprised with the gx4, with the large grip installed, the hump actually fits my hand like the Glock 26. So my accuracy with the gx4 is excellent! I have better accuracy the my g43,48 and 43x.

more important to me, than removing ammo (which is still a great idea) is always handling the weapon as if it's loaded is the safety model to preach. In reality you shouldn't be afraid of ammo ever. It's how we all carry.

You sound very much like George Goehl GSEG Media, who is a metal artisan. You can find him on YT. I just bought the GX4 from a friend, and hope to be shooting it in a couple of days. I checked the serial number with Taurus, and it has no recall issues.
Seeing the videos on the GX4 and reading the Guns & Ammo article, I decided to buy one. It is impressive, well made and comparable to all the best micro-compact 9MMs out there. @ about 1600 rounds my firing pin broke. I noticed the firing pin drag on the struck primers when I fired my first shots and knew that was common on micro-compacts as were firing pins breaking but it wasn't a huge concern. Now, getting off the phone with Taurus and finding out they won't sell me a firing pin, I have to send them the gun and it cost a lot to ship it that's not covered by the warranty and it will take 4 to 8 weeks just to take the back plate off the slide and change the firing pin makes me realize I wasted my money buying this. I'm sticking with Glocks and Sigs.
It is unfortunate that the striker broke. Aside from that, it sounds like you are happy with it? I'd imagine shipping would cost $20-$25 or so. With gas at >$4/gal that's money that could be better used elsewhere, and I feel your frustration. On the other hand, that's not much more than a box of 9mm in Brandon's America. I've never owned a bad Glock, but know folks that have. I've had a couple of Sig's that required factory service, and one of them (a P220) never did run right. This speaks volumes to me. I own a Shield Plus and just got it a week ago and have not fired it yet. It came with four 13 round mags and one 10 rounder. Upon my initial inspection of the firearm, none of the 13 round mags would drop from the pistol when pressing the mag release. I did some investigating and found the follower on all four was sliding right past the mag catch when inserted. I contacted S&W and they told me to send the mags back and they would replace them. When I asked about shipping, they provided me with a return label, free of charge. I've also purchased the GX4 and it is supposed to be here today. Now, I'm on the hunt for a spare striker assembly...just in case. I also own a P365, which is my EDC. Why did I purchase the GX4? I got the TORO edition, with two 11 and one 13 round mag for 300 out the door. I couldn't pass it up.
I just had a trash show with a new G3 TORO, and they did completely offer to pay shipping. They didn't do anything, and I ended up figuring out the problem, and got it at least running. Never was gonna trust it, sold it at a loss. I'm not given up on Taurus, but that was disconcerting. I've had several of their autoloaders over the years and they've been fine, the G3 TORO was my first "Taurus Lemon" and it was not cool. They said they "adjusted the trigger bar" and fired 30 rounds and sent it back.
Sucks to hear. I am at about 1000 rounds with my TX-22 and 550 or so with my GX4 with no issues. Hoping it stays that way. To me durability is the big question with Taurus.
I have 2 ! The standard GX4 and the Toro version! Both have operated flawlessly and the Toro has a CT red dot and a TLR6 flashlight laser combo ! The Toro is a spare home defense weapon the other is my street carry ! I alternate it with my IWI Masada Slim !
Another great video. I decided to try some +P in my GX4 just yesterday. Ran IMI 124 grain +P black tips. It ran several mags full just fine. I'm probably at around 2000 rounds with zero malfunctions at all. It shoots very accurate for me, point of aim. I see a lot of complaints that it shoots low and left and I keep telling people the barrel isn't curved.
The only issue I have with that is the black dots didn't open up when I fired them out of the GX4. Otherwise, that little beast handles them pretty good!
For future reference: A 4.5"-ish barrel seems to be the sweet spot for expansion with that round. At least that was the case with my research. They blossom like spring flowers out of my 10.5" AR-9. I haven't tested them through my CZ Scorpion yet but at 7.5" I'm expecting satisfactory results. Thanks again for sharing!
Only issue I have with my GX4 is the rear sight moves to the right after 200-250 rounds. I just tap it back to center and repeat after another 200 rounds. When the rear sight is centered it pretty much shoots POA at 35-40 feet. I was planning on getting the TORO slide as my aging eyes could use a red dot.
Good review, I've watched several and ordered the gx4 at $269 a week ago, it's $329 just 3 days after my order. I rented one at the range and it's a kicker but nice. Because of its lower price and favorable reviews I hope mine is worth it. Add the Taurus $50 rebate- if they honor it and I say that as I have the g2c and g3c submitted some 5 weeks already and online says waiting verification.
Just a followup on my review- as I watch your review again. The gx4 is same size as my Hellcat and I really like it. They did get the rebates out and still have a $50 rebate but academy wants $339 for it.
Just found your site because I'm looking at a Gx4 at the local farm store, and I've been web-researching. I have found quite a few reviews starting with Sootch and now Jay, including Plinkster, and the ubiquitous Hickock45. Most everybody gives this firearm a thumbs-up review. Just picked one up yesterday. Put 200 rounds though it today. Not a single issue. After 500 or so rounds I think it is going to replace my g43 as my edc. I like the 11+1 vs the 6+1 with the g43
Great video, I did look at the GX4, but I felt it was too small for my hand, so I passed. Myself personally I prefer my G3C. I feel that the firearm you carry, you should feel comfortable and confident with,and the G3C is that pistol for me. I enjoy watching your videos, let’s me see what is out there and I always learn something new.
I have had the gc3 for about a year.. I just bought the gX4 and believe it or not to be so small I can’t explain it but I shoot the gX4 better and I have big hands I shot it well with the flush mag. But I still ordered the 13 rd mag plush pinky ext. for 300 bucks I switch up.
Great vids - Taurus should make you a spokesman! You actually influenced my decision to "pull the trigger" 😂 on my purchase and CC with the CYA holster. IMO, the best EDC is just that: one that is comfortable to carry with confidence every day. I was initially warned that the GX4 would prove a little too small to control recoil. That's NOT been the issue at all. I actually shoot better with it than the G19. I really enjoy it!
I have not tried all 9mm brands, but I had 2 fails with Tula ammo. That was early on. I had no other issues with pistol, but I might try the Tula again. Thanks for the video
It has been my experience that failures observed in the 1st hundred rounds or so can often be attributed to break-in, and usually improve with wear. The steel case ammunition probably increases the odds of that. I had 2 hiccups early on (first magazine or two) with Walther PDP using Winchester USA Forged steel case. 50 rounds in it had smoothed out and hasn't had any more issues. Thanks for sharing!

I have a rather new to me GX4. Purchased new last month beginning of October just before the now $30 rebate on all G models. Anyways, 2nd time at range I wanted to put a quick 50 rds through the gun. I have 2 10rd mags and 1- 13rd mag. I quickly went through 3 mags, reloaded the 3 and went at it again. After a total of another 3 mags, 6 total, the slide would NOT stay in the locked back position and was slow to chamber the next mag being number 7. I let it cool for 10 minutes shooting something else and tried again. Seemed fine for 2 more mags until really hot again and same thing. Slide wouldn't stay locked back and slow to chamber. It was completely cleaned and lightly lubed before this range session. I used only PMC 115 grn fmj ammo. Slide was so slow to chamber when heated up it failed to chamber a round of a new magazine but next round and rest of mag worked fine under recoil. So there's something that doesn't like being really hot and assume it's the recoil spring od assembly. I had only about 100 rounds through the GX4 prior to this so I'll see if more rounds makes it better or worse. I of course thoroughly cleaned the gun after this range session and not much buildup or brass burrs anywhere aside from the firing pin channel because of the way Taurus shaped the firing pin opening. It allows debris inside the channel. Edit. I also been using 13rd mag and the larger back strap because I was hitting the mag release a lot grabbing the thing. Not ideal in a carry gun at all.
Sorry to hear you had a rough start with it. I am assuming when you say new to you that it was pre-owned. Hopefully that's not why the previous owner ditched it. Regardless I would reach out to Taurus and tell them what's going on with it and see if they'll take a look at it.
No, it was a new gun and 1st range trip. I've since taken it two more times to the range with zero issues. I lightly lubed the recoil spring and I cleaned the strike assembly and channel. There were brass shavings in the striker channel after the 1st range trip. Has been fine since and I clean out the striker channel after every range visit but it's been fine. I have shaved down the mag release button flush to frame so the magazines stop dropping in holster and my pocket. My mag release button was extremely sensitive. Now it takes a dedicated firm push to drop a mag and doesn't get accidentally pushed in my holster or pocket. If you look at a Sig365 it has a nearly fully flush mag release button and I found this to eliminate my mags from getting released accidentally. So, aside from 1st range visit with a fully dry recoil spring assembly I haven't had any issues and love the gun. My trigger is fine, slide is smooth, and no ftf or fte after finding what the gun liked and didn't like regarding lubrication.

Always enjoy the content and overall pleased with the GX4. I did have some issues first time at the range. The front site after about 50 rounds was spinning like a top, unfortunate, but was easily tightened and so far ok. Less impressed with the Lakeline pinky extention. 2 rounds through and the mag dislodged. She's a little snappy but not too bad...and maybe my hand is perfectly imperfect, but 2 rounds repeatedly and I was slapping the mag back into position. Gave up on it. Gonna try the extended mags shortly. Hope this finds you and yours well. Cheers and prep.
I got 2 Taurus PT 709 Slim n a G2c. The only thing i did was a trigger change on my G2c by Keep Tinkering beside that never had a issue. Good video 👍👍👍

One request maybe. Can you do a frame strip tutorial someday? Remove the takedown pin, pull stainless chassis away from the polymer frame including the trigger group, etc etc. supposedly it’s east but I’m not going to guess on mine. Also maybe a firing pin removal tutorial. Lakeline has a nice stainless striker guide and I’d like to try one of those.

They've been after me for the past year or so, and I'm not making that up. The purple haired manual reviewer assigned to the stuff I put out gets twisted up when I post anything showing how to with firearms. Under YT terms of service they expressly prohibit showing how to make "modifications" to firearms, with the exception of sights and optics. You can however show how to for maintenance or repair purposes. Those videos almost always get manually reviewed, and often rejected for whatever reason they deem justifiable. The link above is just one example of a headache they gave me trying to get useful content out there. Concerning the chassis removal. My GX4 works really really well. It has over 2000 rounds through it and keeps on going. Coffeefreak (suppressor/machinegun guru) told me a few months ago that an aftermarket grip frame is in the works for the GX4. If and when that time comes, I may make a video showing lower frame disassembly for repair or maintenance purposes. Until then I'll avoid angering the YT manual they/them, or causing unnecessary frame wear to the pin holes on my plasticity pocket rocket. Thanks for watching!
I don't own a GX4 (yet) but I have a G2C and two G3Cs. Taurus is making great guns these days and, at a VERY affordable price. But, my EDC is a Glock 43X simply because it's so thin and light, and I also happen to shoot it like a champ. There's really nothing bad to say about Taurus semi-autos but in my experience they have trouble feeding "some" larger hollow-point rounds. I have some products from Lakeline myself (no pinky extensions) and they work just fine. Thanks for the video.
I have not had good luck with Lakeline myself either. They have been around for quite some time. There is room for another company to get in there, if need be and lower cost etc possiblw. I see whenever you have replacement parts, like "The Glockstore" run bt Lenny McGill-who would sell his mother if there was a nickle of profitin it , are pricy. It could be worse. You could be Larry Vickers.

Got mine about a week ago. When loaded and cocked, the slide was catching at the pin. I was using dummy rounds which are tab longer then self defense and hollow points. It was consistent with the dummy rounds and less with the others. I sent it in just in case. I feel like it should be able to load any 9mm without any issues. I didn’t have this issue with G3C. But it’s smaller so I guess it makes sense.
Hmmmmm, are you talking about firing pin drag on the primer? The reason I ask is I've heard others claim the same, so it's not unheard of. That said sending it back to them to give it to once over was the absolute best thing to do. I'd like to hear how it goes when you get it back. Thanks for sharing 👍
@@JayLewisFarmStyle I’m not that familiar with part names too much but once the mag is loaded and you cock the slide to engage the bullet into the chamber the bullet gets stuck , and the slide at the end is about 1/4 inch from being flush. Hope that makes sense. I’ll be sure to report back tho.
I only have 165 rds through mine. The only issues I have had are ammo related. It's is the most comfortable gun I have ever personally owned. Before it I would switch up my carry guns alot. But now unless I'm not wearing real pants, I won't carry anything else.
Disagree with this micro 9mm not being for first time shooters. I absolutely love it and it's the first gun I've owned. I honestly thought I had a felony on my record for the past 12 years and started talking to a lawyer about expunging it, and she told me it had been reduced to a misdemeanor back in 2010. Lol guess I should've paid more attention in court!
Thanks for the longer review. I'm happy with my GX4 as well. No failures so far at the range. My magazine release is weak at times but hasn't ever failed yet. Over all other pistols I've owned the GX4 needs a clean magazine. I had a tiny amount of sand blow onto the steel walls while it was on my range bag, waiting to be used and that forced me to strip out the magazines, but they did come out.
First gun purchased. NOVICE impression, front sight flew off gun!! I was able to retrieve and gunsmith reattached!! Taurus was LESS THAN helpful and didn't seem to concerned which was very disheartening!! Overall the pinky extender was a great addition for me!! Agree it is harder to control but I'm working on that!! The $50 rebate was a big plus!!
Gx4 is on sale near me for 269 with 2 11 round mags. But I have big hands so 13 round mags would be a necessity. With that the xl model standard is 13 rounds and if correct would print the same as grip detentions the same. Yet barrel length longer which doesn't affect concealment. I'm going wait till they come down in price and go that direction
As far as the “dead trigger” issue. Mine will do it, but I have to literally try to induce the malfunction. Even though it’s been reliable, I hate the fact there is a defect.
My cousin bought one of those guns Because he couldn't afford the P 365. Or hellcat at the time. But he loves it. I don't like the take down. But as far as shooting, it shoots great. I prefer my hellcat You just get more bang for your buck With the hellcat. But. If I was in a pinch, I would definitely get that Taurus GX4. But I am a person that prefers a light on my carry gun. The GX4 doesn't offer that.

I have a G2C I bought about five years ago that has worked great. No issues with that pistol at all. Just picked up a GX4, and in 450 rounds, I have yet to shoot one magazine without a failure. I am getting between 1-4 failure to feeds with each mag. I've tried eight different types of ammo, mostly FMJs but did try some JHPs. Also tried 115 and 124 grs. There was one light primer strike and the front sight came off within the first 50 rounds. I just sent it back to Taurus (they received to Friday 5/26/23) and am curiously waiting to see what they say.
Yeah it sounds like something is off with it for sure. Sending it back is the thing to do in a case like this. We've tested the GX4 extensively here in this channel and have received tons of feedback from others because of that. Of all the issues I've heard come up with GX4, failure to feed hasn't been one of them. If you don't mind keep me in the loop with your situation. Thanks for sharing this!
@@JayLewisFarmStyle Taurus sent it back and I received it last week. They replaced the barrel and recoil spring, front sight, and slide catch. The slide catch was very touchy and would disengage by just setting the pistol down on the table. I went to the range this past Friday 6/16. The front sight is holding, and the slide catch is much better, but the failures to feed is still a problem. On the repair form Taurus sent back, they said they tested the pistol with 22 rounds of Winchester 115GR FMJ. I shot two magazines of that ammo and has six failures. I wonder if they tested it with your mags or theirs. As unlikely as it might be, that could be a contributing factor. Regardless, thanks for the followup. I hope to see this work out for you.
@@JayLewisFarmStyle Yes, I did send both mags back. Their testing should have been with my mags. I'm going to bring it back out this weekend and get some better video with some other ammo to have more evidence of the failures, then I'll contact them to send it back. I hope they can fix it or replace it because the more I shoot it the more I like it.
I love this gun but i dont carry it for one main reason. The mag release is very light. I was finding that the mag wasnt locked in when i took the gun out of my pocket. It was in a pocket holster
CYA Supply Co makes a really good holster for IWB carry that shields the magazine release. I use one for pocket carry and have never had an issue with the magazine being released. Thanks for sharing!
@@bmack2938 There is more than one reason as to why that is a good idea. For starters you pay a premium on a brand new design. But also, you run the risk of getting to be a Guinea pig for the company's field testing division. I have purchased a couple of brand new models models just for the sake of doing review work, and that gets expensive. Especially when you're a self funded hobby level TH-camr.
@@JayLewisFarmStyle yeah right now the GX4XL is at $429.00 I think Taurus made a good decision with the longer barrel. Better sight alignment and more velocity without hindering concealment. I’ll likely get one when the price comes down as a gift to myself when I sign a sweet remodeling job and I’m rich for a day. My girl will ask where’s hers. LOL
I know this is an older video. That said, the guy that put the gun in his holster without investigating and clearing that weapon and at least testing it again after that seems to have had as many “catastrophic failures “ as a person as the weapon did if it actually did fail like that. Why would you not at least drop the mag, clear the “dud” round and start over to make sure there isn’t a problem bigger than just a bad round. Very strange situation. We are pleased with our g3c and will use them for many years to come.
YT’er Beyond Seclusion ran 2,000 rounds through a new Gx4 in one day without cleaning. Had 4 failures to eject. 2 towards the end of 1900 rounds of quality ammo. 2 during 100 rounds of Tula steel case. Not bad.
I’m not a fan of steel case. I read the lacquer builds up in the barrel. Cleaning fluid doesn’t break it down. I do shoot steel case in my AK though. You know because it’s an AK. LOL
I just saw this sorry ... the guy who about took himself out did he not clear the dead round? .. I mean if I have a misfire I clear the round .. I don't just try to put the gun back in my holster waiting for it to go off whenever it wants to ... I would call that user error
I wasn't there, it wasn't me, but I think something went wrong for sure. Even if the weapon did malfunction, properly clearing procedures apparently weren't followed.
Lets see the screw at the end of the recoil spring was backing out as you fired the pistol becoming finger loose and sticking out about a dimes width at the front of the pistol. Just ordered a new spring. After getting a new recoil spring failure to feed and light primer strikes where it does not fire and dead trigger. When the pistol functions it is very accurate but with these other issues it is sitting unload and I am very unhappy with the pistol. I got this pistol to carry while riding my motorcycle but I cant trust this gun. I have a G2C and a Judge and both are great firearms.
I’ve owned my GX4 for over 1 year. I’ve had feed failure’s. I’ve had magazine release issues. Laying the pistol on the mag release side in my car I picked up the pistol and found the mag slide out freely. I’m not sure I want to rely on it. I’m considering another compact 9mm now.
Hi, I like my gx4 alot , is it the most accurate pistols I own? No, would I choose to carry it? Yes I've got extended mags the whole bit. ,it's lighter and smaller than my bersa 380, but in accuracy, the bersa shines.
I just bougth mine at B.P.S. I did change the base plate with the Lakeline LLC pinky extension but I can't find the 13 round extended mag. As for the holster, well don't have any problems because I make my own holsters to my own specifications and design.
Ive had two issues with mine. Failed trigger reset a few times which is appparently a known issue, and failure to feed with certain types of hollow points. It does not like flat tip hollows with a cavity like sig sauer rounds. It has no issue with hornady plastic tipped hollows like critical duty tho. I think it has to do with the angle of the feed ramp
The takedown is probably the biggest flaw. I don't care for needing a tool to field strip, but it is a minor issue. At least there are no small parts to lose like on the Ruger Max-9. Thanks for sharing 👍
My daughter bought one and it wasn't long before she started to have trigger issues, it would chamber the round but the trigger would be dead I dont trust it and it's intermittent is there a fix for this????? She likes the gun but really needs to trust it.
There was a known issue with a handful of the earlier GX4 triggers not resetting properly. Taurus is well aware of the issue. Contact customer service, and they'll send you a label for warranty work.
Let’s see….guns that had bad issues when first released recently that come to mind…..oh yeah…SIG P365. But they fixed it and Taurus will too so a. They aren’t sued, b. They sell guns.
I carry my gx-4 full time and love it.
Small, compact, trigger is amazing the grips texture is great. I've owned plenty of other conceal carry guns but this has been by far my favorite. Just don't pass this one up if you have the opportunity to try it, I think it will surprise you.

While I'm riding my bike I carry a Sig P938. It's 2 ounces lighter than the GX4, I suspect because of the single stack mag VS the double stack. I do want a GX4 for the added capacity.

Mine came with a broken slide stop spring and would inadvertently lock back with rounds in the magazine. Taurus fixed it in less than 2 weeks and it has been flawless ever since. Love my GX4!

I ordered a 13 round OEM magazine. It seems like the perfect compromise. The 15 round magazine seems to be a little long, the pinky extension is too small. Having 2 extra rounds is a nice bonus as well.

Already owning a Glock 26 and Kahr CM9 I can't really justify buying one of the double digit capacity micro 9s. But it's good to know that Taurus is making an excellent one at a price most people can afford. I've owned 3 Taurus revolvers (though never one of their semi-autos) and had 0 problems with them.

I wouldn't go quite that far, as Taurus auto pistols were a little rough back in the day, but their modern line has really come a long way!
I think Heritage Rough Rider's would be just about perfect if they'd lose the goofy little manual safety, but I understand why they don't. I have a couple of them, and prefer them to the Ruger Wrangler.

Totally enamored with the GX4 and I own a number of the Micro's. Never owned a Taurus in my many years of shooting, but this gun is top dog for sure. I no longer carry the Sig 365. This gun shoot shoots better and a lot better grip. Like the Glock it has few parts, (less than 50), a steel chassis and love the trigger especially for a EDC small gun. I also purchased a spare Toro receiver for $149.00 which was a bonus. I put on a Fusion (Glock Compatible) front night sight. Bravo to Taurus, they really have done a fantastic job. PS I now have over $1,000 rds through this gun without one single issue. Thanks for the review. Keep em coming.

I've shot maybe 300 rounds through mine, when I did come across an issue. The last 20 we're using extreme defender 90 +p, and the front sight post screw sheared from the base, and flew off into the great beyond. Taurus shipped me a new one, but the process was difficult and there were many issues I had to remedy to get the replacement. It has been 100% reliable, the trigger has been great, and is extremely versatile for carry. Over all a great option.

Its always been accurate and reliable. And for the price ive been very happy with that and its performance. They have some quality control issues sometimes but i think overall its a steal.

Because of my build it’s hard for me to conceal carry a 9mm without printing like crazy. So I’ve been carrying my ruger LCP that conceals really well. I’m 5’6” on a good day with a bad knee and torn bicep that never went back to full strength hence why I carry everywhere I go in this crazy world. A fist fight I can easily lose that I would have easily won prior to my injuries. Getting old too. I saw the GX4 right after I overpaid for a G3C last year when supply was short. The G3C printed like crazy so I still carried my LCP. Once I took the GX4 to the range. Ran a hundred rounds and had a couple jams right out of the box. Took it home and gave it a good cleaning and lubed it up and a few hundred rounds later goes bang every time. No issues. It conceals very well for a smaller frame man like myself. Also I know those with larger hands have a pinky drop off but the standard mag fits my hand perfectly. Carrying my LCP with Precision Ammo (the best personal defense ammo IMO) I always had reservations about the stopping power and small ammo capacity. Opinions vary but carrying the 9mm I no longer have those doubts about dropping an aggressor. I’m going to look into a higher capacity magazine and pinky extender maybe. That may cause it to print more. See what it looks like at academy sports. GX4 price was awesome and I’ll keep it for life and it will remain my daily carry.

I absolutely love the gx4. I’ve lost count of how many rounds I’ve run through it, but I’ve had zero failures. That little pistol does what it’s supposed to do every single time. I think it’s arguably the best micro 9 on the market. I’ve heard that it was designed by one of the designers of the p365. I haven’t been able to confirm this though. Either way, it’s a great piece for edc and I have no problem trusting it when it matters. Great review.

I currently carry a Sig p365 but I am going to pick up a Taurus GX4 soon. I also carry a Glock 26 in the winter months.
All 3 are solid choices. I carry my P365 most days, but switch to the GX4 if I'm doing something that might jeopardize the cosmetics.
I have a G26 as well, which I used to think was small enough for pocket carry. 🤣

I agree with your stance on the GX4 dead trigger issue it's true that all new production firearms have failures I mean heck even SIGs beloved P365 had there firing pins breaking off on launch. As for the man who shot himself everyone who has even basic knowledge on firearms is if a round does not go off you wait a few good seconds aiming down range and then drop the mag and remove the dud and then inspect you firearm.

And I gotta say this for anybody that reads this that I have big hands and bought the extension that is 13 And 1 and it works great but I found out that if you put on the added stock grip that comes with your pistol it will actually lock you hand in much better with just the normal 11 and 1 mags that come with your gun now that's how I carry mine all the time

As a Glock guy, my Glock 26 has always given me the best accuracy. I attribute this to the Glock “hump” on the grip. I was pleasantly surprised with the gx4, with the large grip installed, the hump actually fits my hand like the Glock 26. So my accuracy with the gx4 is excellent! I have better accuracy the my g43,48 and 43x.

more important to me, than removing ammo (which is still a great idea) is always handling the weapon as if it's loaded is the safety model to preach. In reality you shouldn't be afraid of ammo ever. It's how we all carry.

I did my research before I bought my weapon. I read the bad and the good. A lot of what I saw was unsubstantiated BS that was not based on fact. SO Taurus actually has a decent reputation..... There are just haters out there because Taurus IS THE LARGEST GUN MANUFACTURER AND SELLS THE MOST GUNS...PERIOD.
Ford, Chevy, Honda, Toyota, BMW, Mercedes all come with warranties and have service centers with garages full of tools.
Gun manufacturers are just the same but usually have better warranties and customer service.

Seeing the videos on the GX4 and reading the Guns & Ammo article, I decided to buy one. It is impressive, well made and comparable to all the best micro-compact 9MMs out there. @ about 1600 rounds my firing pin broke. I noticed the firing pin drag on the struck primers when I fired my first shots and knew that was common on micro-compacts as were firing pins breaking but it wasn't a huge concern. Now, getting off the phone with Taurus and finding out they won't sell me a firing pin, I have to send them the gun and it cost a lot to ship it that's not covered by the warranty and it will take 4 to 8 weeks just to take the back plate off the slide and change the firing pin makes me realize I wasted my money buying this. I'm sticking with Glocks and Sigs.

I'd imagine shipping would cost $20-$25 or so. With gas at >$4/gal that's money that could be better used elsewhere, and I feel your frustration. On the other hand, that's not much more than a box of 9mm in Brandon's America.
I've never owned a bad Glock, but know folks that have. I've had a couple of Sig's that required factory service, and one of them (a P220) never did run right.

This speaks volumes to me. I own a Shield Plus and just got it a week ago and have not fired it yet. It came with four 13 round mags and one 10 rounder. Upon my initial inspection of the firearm, none of the 13 round mags would drop from the pistol when pressing the mag release. I did some investigating and found the follower on all four was sliding right past the mag catch when inserted. I contacted S&W and they told me to send the mags back and they would replace them. When I asked about shipping, they provided me with a return label, free of charge.
I've also purchased the GX4 and it is supposed to be here today. Now, I'm on the hunt for a spare striker assembly...just in case.
I also own a P365, which is my EDC. Why did I purchase the GX4? I got the TORO edition, with two 11 and one 13 round mag for 300 out the door. I couldn't pass it up.
I just had a trash show with a new G3 TORO, and they did completely offer to pay shipping. They didn't do anything, and I ended up figuring out the problem, and got it at least running. Never was gonna trust it, sold it at a loss. I'm not given up on Taurus, but that was disconcerting. I've had several of their autoloaders over the years and they've been fine, the G3 TORO was my first "Taurus Lemon" and it was not cool. They said they "adjusted the trigger bar" and fired 30 rounds and sent it back.
Sucks to hear. I am at about 1000 rounds with my TX-22 and 550 or so with my GX4 with no issues. Hoping it stays that way. To me durability is the big question with Taurus.
I have 2 ! The standard GX4 and the Toro version! Both have operated flawlessly and the Toro has a CT red dot and a TLR6 flashlight laser combo ! The Toro is a spare home defense weapon the other is my street carry ! I alternate it with my IWI Masada Slim !

Another great video. I decided to try some +P in my GX4 just yesterday. Ran IMI 124 grain +P black tips. It ran several mags full just fine. I'm probably at around 2000 rounds with zero malfunctions at all. It shoots very accurate for me, point of aim. I see a lot of complaints that it shoots low and left and I keep telling people the barrel isn't curved.
The only issue I have with that is the black dots didn't open up when I fired them out of the GX4. Otherwise, that little beast handles them pretty good!

For future reference: A 4.5"-ish barrel seems to be the sweet spot for expansion with that round. At least that was the case with my research.
They blossom like spring flowers out of my 10.5" AR-9. I haven't tested them through my CZ Scorpion yet but at 7.5" I'm expecting satisfactory results.

mine shoots low and to the left too, i purchased a sight moving tool, so next time im going to try and adjust the rear sights
Only issue I have with my GX4 is the rear sight moves to the right after 200-250 rounds. I just tap it back to center and repeat after another 200 rounds. When the rear sight is centered it pretty much shoots POA at 35-40 feet. I was planning on getting the TORO slide as my aging eyes could use a red dot.
Good review, I've watched several and ordered the gx4 at $269 a week ago, it's $329 just 3 days after my order. I rented one at the range and it's a kicker but nice. Because of its lower price and favorable reviews I hope mine is worth it. Add the Taurus $50 rebate- if they honor it and I say that as I have the g2c and g3c submitted some 5 weeks already and online says waiting verification.

Great video, I did look at the GX4, but I felt it was too small for my hand, so I passed. Myself personally I prefer my G3C. I feel that the firearm you carry, you should feel comfortable and confident with,and the G3C is that pistol for me. I enjoy watching your videos, let’s me see what is out there and I always learn something new.
I have had the gc3 for about a year.. I just bought the gX4 and believe it or not to be so small I can’t explain it but I shoot the gX4 better and I have big hands I shot it well with the flush mag. But I still ordered the 13 rd mag plush pinky ext. for 300 bucks I switch up.
Well if it isn’t broke, why fix it lol, I’m just super happy with the G3C,

Great vids - Taurus should make you a spokesman! You actually influenced my decision to "pull the trigger" 😂 on my purchase and CC with the CYA holster. IMO, the best EDC is just that: one that is comfortable to carry with confidence every day. I was initially warned that the GX4 would prove a little too small to control recoil. That's NOT been the issue at all. I actually shoot better with it than the G19. I really enjoy it!

I have not tried all 9mm brands, but I had 2 fails with Tula ammo. That was early on. I had no other issues with pistol, but I might try the Tula again. Thanks for the video
It has been my experience that failures observed in the 1st hundred rounds or so can often be attributed to break-in, and usually improve with wear. The steel case ammunition probably increases the odds of that.
I had 2 hiccups early on (first magazine or two) with Walther PDP using Winchester USA Forged steel case. 50 rounds in it had smoothed out and hasn't had any more issues.

I got 3 gx4 plus the XL slide on the way. Love the gx4. I got 2 of lakelines baseplates they are proud of their 3d printed products.
Lakeline has since pulled that 15 round extension from their website. I can imagine more than a couple of people had problems with them.

I have a rather new to me GX4. Purchased new last month beginning of October just before the now $30 rebate on all G models. Anyways, 2nd time at range I wanted to put a quick 50 rds through the gun. I have 2 10rd mags and 1- 13rd mag. I quickly went through 3 mags, reloaded the 3 and went at it again. After a total of another 3 mags, 6 total, the slide would NOT stay in the locked back position and was slow to chamber the next mag being number 7. I let it cool for 10 minutes shooting something else and tried again. Seemed fine for 2 more mags until really hot again and same thing. Slide wouldn't stay locked back and slow to chamber.
It was completely cleaned and lightly lubed before this range session. I used only PMC 115 grn fmj ammo.
Slide was so slow to chamber when heated up it failed to chamber a round of a new magazine but next round and rest of mag worked fine under recoil.
So there's something that doesn't like being really hot and assume it's the recoil spring
od assembly. I had only about 100 rounds through the GX4 prior to this so I'll see if more rounds makes it better or worse. I of course thoroughly cleaned the gun after this range session and not much buildup or brass burrs anywhere aside from the firing pin channel because of the way Taurus shaped the firing pin opening. It allows debris inside the channel.
Edit. I also been using 13rd mag and the larger back strap because I was hitting the mag release a lot grabbing the thing. Not ideal in a carry gun at all.
Sorry to hear you had a rough start with it. I am assuming when you say new to you that it was pre-owned. Hopefully that's not why the previous owner ditched it. Regardless I would reach out to Taurus and tell them what's going on with it and see if they'll take a look at it.
No, it was a new gun and 1st range trip. I've since taken it two more times to the range with zero issues. I lightly lubed the recoil spring and I cleaned the strike assembly and channel. There were brass shavings in the striker channel after the 1st range trip. Has been fine since and I clean out the striker channel after every range visit but it's been fine.
I have shaved down the mag release button flush to frame so the magazines stop dropping in holster and my pocket. My mag release button was extremely sensitive. Now it takes a dedicated firm push to drop a mag and doesn't get accidentally pushed in my holster or pocket. If you look at a Sig365 it has a nearly fully flush mag release button and I found this to eliminate my mags from getting released accidentally.
So, aside from 1st range visit with a fully dry recoil spring assembly I haven't had any issues and love the gun. My trigger is fine, slide is smooth, and no ftf or fte after finding what the gun liked and didn't like regarding lubrication.

Always enjoy the content and overall pleased with the GX4. I did have some issues first time at the range. The front site after about 50 rounds was spinning like a top, unfortunate, but was easily tightened and so far ok. Less impressed with the Lakeline pinky extention. 2 rounds through and the mag dislodged. She's a little snappy but not too bad...and maybe my hand is perfectly imperfect, but 2 rounds repeatedly and I was slapping the mag back into position. Gave up on it. One request maybe. Can you do a frame strip tutorial someday? Remove the takedown pin, pull stainless chassis away from the polymer frame including the trigger group, etc etc. supposedly it’s east but I’m not going to guess on mine. Also maybe a firing pin removal tutorial. Lakeline has a nice stainless striker guide and I’d like to try one of those.

YT has aggressive monitoring of 2A content channels. They've been after me for the past year or so, and I'm not making that up.
The purple haired manual reviewer assigned to the stuff I put out gets twisted up when I post anything showing how to with firearms. Under YT terms of service they expressly prohibit showing how to make "modifications" to firearms, with the exception of sights and optics.
You can however show how to for maintenance or repair purposes. Those videos almost always get manually reviewed, and often rejected for whatever reason they deem justifiable.
The link above is just one example of a headache they gave me trying to get useful content out there.
Concerning the chassis removal. My GX4 works really really well. It has over 2000 rounds through it and keeps on going. Coffeefreak (suppressor/machinegun guru) told me a few months ago that an aftermarket grip frame is in the works for the GX4. If and when that time comes, I may make a video showing lower frame disassembly for repair or maintenance purposes. Until then I'll avoid angering the YT manual they/them, or causing unnecessary frame wear to the pin holes on my plasticity pocket rocket.

I don't own a GX4 (yet) but I have a G2C and two G3Cs. Taurus is making great guns these days and, at a VERY affordable price. But, my EDC is a Glock 43X simply because it's so thin and light, and I also happen to shoot it like a champ. There's really nothing bad to say about Taurus semi-autos but in my experience they have trouble feeding "some" larger hollow-point rounds. I have some products from Lakeline myself (no pinky extensions) and they work just fine. Thanks for the video.

I have not had good luck with Lakeline myself either. They have been around for quite some time. There is room for another company to get in there, if need be and lower cost etc possiblw. I see whenever you have replacement parts, like "The Glockstore" run bt Lenny McGill-who would sell his mother if there was a nickle of profitin it , are pricy. It could be worse. You could be Larry Vickers.

Got mine about a week ago. When loaded and cocked, the slide was catching at the pin. I was using dummy rounds which are tab longer then self defense and hollow points. It was consistent with the dummy rounds and less with the others. I sent it in just in case. I feel like it should be able to load any 9mm without any issues. I didn’t have this issue with G3C. But it’s smaller so I guess it makes sense.
Hmmmmm, are you talking about firing pin drag on the primer? The reason I ask is I've heard others claim the same, so it's not unheard of. That said sending it back to them to give it to once over was the absolute best thing to do.

@@JayLewisFarmStyle I’m not that familiar with part names too much but once the mag is loaded and you cock the slide to engage the bullet into the chamber the bullet gets stuck , and the slide at the end is about 1/4 inch from being flush. Hope that makes sense. I’ll be sure to report back tho.
I only have 165 rds through mine. The only issues I have had are ammo related. It's is the most comfortable gun I have ever personally owned. Before it I would switch up my carry guns alot. But now unless I'm not wearing real pants, I won't carry anything else.

Disagree with this micro 9mm not being for first time shooters. I absolutely love it and it's the first gun I've owned. I honestly thought I had a felony on my record for the past 12 years and started talking to a lawyer about expunging it, and she told me it had been reduced to a misdemeanor back in 2010. Thanks for the longer review. I'm happy with my GX4 as well. No failures so far at the range. My magazine release is weak at times but hasn't ever failed yet.
Over all other pistols I've owned the GX4 needs a clean magazine. I had a tiny amount of sand blow onto the steel walls while it was on my range bag, waiting to be used and that forced me to strip out the magazines, but they did come out.
Sand can screw up anything!

First gun purchased. NOVICE impression, front sight flew off gun!! I was able to retrieve and gunsmith reattached!! Taurus was LESS THAN helpful and didn't seem to concerned which was very disheartening!! Overall the pinky extender was a great addition for me!! Agree it is harder to control but I'm working on that!! The $50 rebate was a big plus!!
The front sight thing is a known issue. Put a drop of Loctite on it and it'll be good to go.

Gx4 is on sale near me for 269 with 2 11 round mags. But I have big hands so 13 round mags would be a necessity. With that the xl model standard is 13 rounds and if correct would print the same as grip detentions the same. Yet barrel length longer which doesn't affect concealment. I'm going wait till they come down in price and go that direction

My cousin bought one of those guns Because he couldn't afford the P 365. Or hellcat at the time. But he loves it. I don't like the take down. But as far as shooting, it shoots great. I prefer my hellcat You just get more bang for your buck With the hellcat. But. If I was in a pinch, I would definitely get that Taurus GX4. But I am a person that prefers a light on my carry gun. The GX4 doesn't offer that.

I have a G2C I bought about five years ago that has worked great. No issues with that pistol at all. Just picked up a GX4, and in 450 rounds, I have yet to shoot one magazine without a failure. I am getting between 1-4 failure to feeds with each mag. I've tried eight different types of ammo, mostly FMJs but did try some JHPs. Also tried 115 and 124 grs. There was one light primer strike and the front sight came off within the first 50 rounds. I just sent it back to Taurus (they received to Friday 5/26/23) and am curiously waiting to see what they say.
Yeah it sounds like something is off with it for sure. Sending it back is the thing to do in a case like this.
We've tested the GX4 extensively here in this channel and have received tons of feedback from others because of that.
Of all the issues I've heard come up with GX4, failure to feed hasn't been one of them.

@@JayLewisFarmStyle Taurus sent it back and I received it last week. They replaced the barrel and recoil spring, front sight, and slide catch. The slide catch was very touchy and would disengage by just setting the pistol down on the table. I went to the range this past Friday 6/16. The front sight is holding, and the slide catch is much better, but the failures to feed is still a problem. On the repair form Taurus sent back, they said they tested the pistol with 22 rounds of Winchester 115GR FMJ. I shot two magazines of that ammo and has six failures. I also had failures using Magtech, PMC Bronze, and Aguila 124GR FMJ. Here's a short video of the Magtech ammo.

@@Clymer1776 I saw your troubleshooting video. There is most definitely something wrong with your gun. Send it back again with the video link so they can see what's going on. As I said before of all the complaints I've heard on the GX4 this failure to feed is something new.
The thought just occurred to me, did you send the magazines back with it? I wonder if they tested it with your mags or theirs. As unlikely as it might be, that could be a contributing factor.

I'm going to bring it back out this weekend and get some better video with some other ammo to have more evidence of the failures, then I'll contact them to send it back. I love this gun but i dont carry it for one main reason. The mag release is very light. I was finding that the mag wasnt locked in when i took the gun out of my pocket. It was in a pocket holster
CYA Supply Co makes a really good holster for IWB carry that shields the magazine release. I use one for pocket carry and have never had an issue with the magazine being released.

For starters you pay a premium on a brand new design. But also, you run the risk of getting to be a Guinea pig for the company's field testing division.
I have purchased a couple of brand new models models just for the sake of doing review work, and that gets expensive. Especially when you're a self funded hobby level TH-camr.

I know this is an older video. That said, the guy that put the gun in his holster without investigating and clearing that weapon and at least testing it again after that seems to have had as many “catastrophic failures “ as a person as the weapon did if it actually did fail like that. Why would you not at least drop the mag, clear the “dud” round and start over to make sure there isn’t a problem bigger than just a bad round. Very strange situation. We are pleased with our g3c and will use them for many years to come.

YT’er Beyond Seclusion ran 2,000 rounds through a new Gx4 in one day without cleaning. Had 4 failures to eject. 2 towards the end of 1900 rounds of quality ammo. 2 during 100 rounds of Tula steel case. Not bad.

I’m not a fan of steel case. I read the lacquer builds up in the barrel. Cleaning fluid doesn’t break it down. I do shoot steel case in my AK though. You know because it’s an AK. LOL

I just saw this sorry ... the guy who about took himself out did he not clear the dead round? .. I mean if I have a misfire I clear the round .. I don't just try to put the gun back in my holster waiting for it to go off whenever it wants to ... I would call that user error
I wasn't there, it wasn't me, but I think something went wrong for sure. Even if the weapon did malfunction, properly clearing procedures apparently weren't followed.
I keep the gun pointed down range and count off 30 seconds. Then I drop the mag and clear the round.
Lets see the screw at the end of the recoil spring was backing out as you fired the pistol becoming finger loose and sticking out about a dimes width at the front of the pistol. Just ordered a new spring. After getting a new recoil spring failure to feed and light primer strikes where it does not fire and dead trigger. When the pistol functions it is very accurate but with these other issues it is sitting unload and I am very unhappy with the pistol. I got this pistol to carry while riding my motorcycle but I cant trust this gun. I have a G2C and a Judge and both are great firearms.

I’ve owned my GX4 for over 1 year. I’ve had feed failure’s. I’ve had magazine release issues. Laying the pistol on the mag release side in my car I picked up the pistol and found the mag slide out freely. I’m not sure I want to rely on it. I’m considering another compact 9mm now.

I just bougth mine at B.P.S. I did change the base plate with the Lakeline LLC pinky extension but I can't find the 13 round extended mag. As for the holster, well don't have any problems because I make my own holsters to my own specifications and design.

Ive had two issues with mine. Failed trigger reset a few times which is appparently a known issue, and failure to feed with certain types of hollow points. It does not like flat tip hollows with a cavity like sig sauer rounds. It has no issue with hornady plastic tipped hollows like critical duty tho. I think it has to do with the angle of the feed ramp

My cousin has that gun. It runs good, not as great as my hellcat. But on the GX4? I don't like the takedown.
The takedown is probably the biggest flaw. I don't care for needing a tool to field strip, but it is a minor issue. At least there are no small parts to lose like on the Ruger Max-9.

My daughter bought one and it wasn't long before she started to have trigger issues, it would chamber the round but the trigger would be dead I dont trust it and it's intermittent is there a fix for this????? She likes the gun but really needs to trust it.
There was a known issue with a handful of the earlier GX4 triggers not resetting properly. Taurus is well aware of the issue. Contact customer service, and they'll send you a label for warranty work.
