    When I purchased my GX4 I honestly never intended for it to make into my EDC rotation. I picked it up BECAUSE it was only $330 dollars, and I thought for the price why not? Turns out after I changed the sights (which are Glock compatible so there’s tons of variety) it’s now one of my favorite EDC’s. My Glock 43X is still my overall favorite, but the GX4 is a close 2nd, and depending on what I’m wearing the GX4 is my go to.

    Unfortunately, the GX4 had feeding issue right out of the box for me. In addition, the magazine kept dropping out. It is a good looking pistol. I am going to give it some more time but I don't think it will replace my P365 as my EDC.

      My carry lasted one range trip. It locked up and when I took off the slide the plunger and 2 springs feel out. I was at an outdoor range so. Mailed it back to Taurus USA and they fixed it.

    I received my GX4 the end of last year and immediately had issues - sent back to Taurus - same issues - sent back and now seemingly working well. The initial issue was that depending on conditions with the trigger (slight push or pull to either side) the sear did not engage at about a 30% fail rate. Since then I have had one light primer strike but all other has fired. The light primer may have been ammo as I was shooting tulla.

    I put the Veridian E series Green laser on my X4 and bore sighted it in and I'm dinging plates at 20 yards on in ! This gentleman could use it ! I found that the laser was slightly low on the front sight compared to the bore laser so lining it up put the green on the down side of the front sight ! If the green is on the plate ... Ping! Mine has been flawless with Hp's and FMJ !

      With the original sights I was extremely accurate with this gun. That was what initially surprised me so much. However, I decided to try out some Glock night sights to see if they fit and they did...but it changed the point of impact. With the factory sights I was aiming dead on, but with these sights I was having to way high right. That is why I was having so much trouble. I thought about putting the factory sights back on and reshooting the video, but the purpose of the video was the durability and reliability of the gun after 1000 rounds. How well I shot it in this video, therefore, was pretty much irrelevant.

    My GX4 was flawless for 800 Rounds or so..Then problems rose their "ugly head". Bullets jamming in the chamber over half of the time. And the Slide not fulling engaging forward
    As of yesterday, this weapon is on its way back to Taurus...For the third time. While bullet jamming is occurring less another issue has popped up Now the Slide is "acting up" . The Slide automatically engages as a full magazine is inserted.....(without even pressing or touching the slide switch). So far Taurus has replaced the barrel. Replaced magazine spring and adjusted the Slide and spring.......
    On the positive side, the folks at Taurus' Repair Service have been very professional....

    For EDC, at any time I am not going to have more than 11 rounds with me. If I have to have more than that, I was somewhere I should have been smarter not to go. I pay no attention to reviews when the gun isn't properly cleaned and lubed according to the manufacturer. Before first use and whatever is recommended beyond that. If a gun has ANY issues, and the instructions were not followed, the firearm CANNOT be blamed for the issue. That's just dumb. I always clean mine before first use and then after every trip to the range. I don't care if it will or will not function when dirty. Mine are always clean.

    • @Preacher357
      @Preacher357  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      So you are saying I should have just stopped shooting at the range to go clean the gun again? If a gun can't make it through an entire range session then I would think that is something that needs to be considered before buying the gun. I have yet to see anyone at a gun store reading the manual before buying it to see how many rounds the manufacturer says it will run before it craps out from being dirty. While it would certainly be out of the ordinary and unadvisable to carry around a firearm for self defense that is filthy from hundreds of rounds being fired, the fact that it can still be reliable in that condition is a testament to the overall reliability of the gun. I can guarantee you that the top tier manufacturers expect their guns to go thousands of rounds without cleaning while still maintaining reliability.

    • @Preacher357
      @Preacher357  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also, I didn't throw too much flak at the gun about it. I actually sold this gun to a fellow preacher for self defense. If I didn't trust it I would not have done that.

    • @jamesR1990
      @jamesR1990 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Everything about what you have stated indicates you don't believe a self defense pistol will ever need to be used in anything other than PERFECT conditions 🙄
      You'll never get knocked into mud, never trip or be in the rain etc.
      If the firearm cannot function in very minor dirty conditions then it's probably not super reliable in real world applications

    • @quinnmclaughlin7537
      @quinnmclaughlin7537 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      my grandfather was the same way, and in regular life, regular use I agree, but what if you do get in a confrontation and the gun ends up in the dirt?
      in that moment wouldn't you wnt it to fire and not malfunction?
      sure, every sqeaky clean 'safe queen' will probably fire.
      i want to know my gun is reliable in any condition it Might encounter. so let's see what condition(s) will make it mis-fire/mis-behave..that's what testing and reviewing is all about.
      you say reviews of dirty guns aren't valid, I say reviews of clean guns aren't valid, it shows you haven't shot it enough to be good with it.

  • @johnsilver7150
    @johnsilver7150 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Every semi auto will malfunction eventually when not cleaned. Do you ever change oil in your vehicles? And try shooting at a large PAPER target to see where you are printing.

    • @Preacher357
      @Preacher357  ปีที่แล้ว

      That is certainly true, but that wasn't the issue here. It was how few rounds it took to cause malfunctions compared to other comparable guns on the market. In the end, as a carry gun rather than a range toy it doesn't make that much difference if it will only run for 250 - 300 rounds before cleaning. It was more of an inconvenience than a real problem; which is why I still gave this gun a positive rating. Yes I do sight the guns in with paper targets quite often. However, with this gun, I had just changed the sights out and had adjusted the sights and got them as close as I could on windage in the previous session. The problem is, I had to change ammo for this video. Even though it was still 115 grain, the point of impact still shifted. However, since this video was about 1000 reliability, not accuracy, I saw no reason to re-shoot the video just because I was not hitting well. There were already several videos that I had done wherein I had shown how accurate this little gun could be for its size, especially with the original sights.

    • @Preacher357
      @Preacher357  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I try to use factory ammo for my videos; however, that gets quite expensive if that is all that you shoot. Reloads cost probably half what factory ammo does in 9mm. When you consider I put over 1100 rounds through this gun and and it was only 1 of about 100 guns that I have shot in the last year, I think you can see why I try to save money with reloads when I can. I always make sure to mention in the video when I do, though. With all of that said, I don't really think it was the reloads that caused the failures. Whatever it was, a cleaning fixed the issue and with it only experiencing handful of failures after the gun was extremely dirty, I am going to say the reliability of the GX4 is easily satisfactory.

    Being a CNC machine programmer. Since the 1970s Gun makers have been ripping you off. Machining a part in the 60s would take 10 man hours to complete a CNC with 5 axes machine can do it in one hour that's why Taurus sell you a good gun that is very economical and the others won't follow through they just want the profit
    Why they used 416 Stainless steel it's the easiest to machine high strength and good wear ability

    • @Preacher357
      @Preacher357  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There is truth to that, but there is more than just greed involved. Marketing plays a role as well. Companies have to find out what the optimum market price is for their product. If they price it too high, no one will buy it because they will think it is too expensive. If they price it too low, no one will buy it because they will assume it is junk. Each brand sort of has their own niche in the market.

    • @Preacher357
      @Preacher357  ปีที่แล้ว

      That isn't the problem here. Changing the sights wouldn't cause me to "slap" the trigger and shoot low left when I was shooting dead on with the original sights on this gun. I put some Glock nights sights on the gun to see if the Taurus was compatible. They fit, but they were way off. I had adjusted the windage in the previous range session, but I changed ammo for this video, which apparently altered the point of impact.

      I had just shot it the day before and it was as zeroed as I could get it because the Glock sights I had put on were way off on the elevation. Unfortunately, I also changed ammunition from the previous day as well. I was still using 115 grain hard ball, so I didn't think it would make much of a difference, but it did. The windage changed quite a bit. I thought about not publishing the video and putting the original sights back on, but the whole point of this video was about the durability and reliability of the gun after 1000 rounds, not how accurate it was with aftermarket sights. I had already shown in the original video that I posted with the gun that it was extremely accurate with the original sights; so I decided just to put it up anyway.

    You are trying to make it a range gun when it is a self defence gun made for 10 yards or less where most self defence situations occur. Quit shooting crappy reloads and your reliability problems will go away!

    • @Preacher357
      @Preacher357  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      As far as I am concerned every gun is a range gun. Even if it is for self defense you have to still practice with it at the range. I shoot all of my guns at these same distances, so my opinions of each gun are based on essentially identical shooting conditions. If I can shoot one gun of the same size very well but not another then that is basically an apples to apples comparison. Also, if a gun can be shot accurately at 20 or 35 yards then it most certainly can be at 7. I don't usually use reloads for my videos, but I do use them some for extended testing just for the sake of cost. I have reloaded for years and I can guarantee you I don't produce "crappy reloads". I tend to be fairly meticulous. However, with all that said, I think you missed the fact that I gave this gun rave reviews. The only issue I had was once the gun was very dirty, and once I cleaned it it started running flawlessly again. This was one of the most accurate small guns that I have fired. The only reason I struggled in this video was because of the aftermarket sights that I had just put on it that were not shooting anywhere close to point of aim.
