What causes some of them to have a bit of a 'buzzy' quality, where the others are so smooth? Like the Ascension Series' E Flat Major side is so smooth; but the Helios 2.0 C Minor HiJaz seems to be a bit like a gong (with a tiny background 'clang'), or maybe best described as 'buzzing' a bit on that side. Maybe it's the way it was struck, or a defect, or something else causing it?
That is a great question. I had to listen to the recording a few times to hear what you were talking about because in person they all sound so great. Each model has it's own sound quality. These twi models sound so different because of the material that is used to make them. The Ascension series is a thicker metal and the Helios is much thinner which changes the way the sound is created and resonates in the chamber. Also the shape affects the resonance. Unfortunately, the microphone can pick up only some of the tones. The Helios as a lot of resonance going on and it can sound a bit muddy on the recording, but in person it is stunning. Hi David. Thank you for the compliment about our video and our tongue drums. Our website is www.niagarasingingbowls.com At the present time we have only three drums in stock but I have several more arriving in the next few weeks.
@@davids7639 We can custom order if they have shells in stock. They do come in purple, orange, green, blue and forged. It will take a few months to get it in stock though. I have a Hyperion Kurd in D- and Hijaz in E-, both with a forge finish on order right now. These should arrive in a few weeks. If you would like a special order, please call me tomorrow and we will see what we can do for you. My phone number is on the website.
Sadly, we can no longer get these drums. Kindred Spirit is only selling retail now instead of selling to stores. Please visit his site if you are interested in them. I will be adding new drums from a different artist onto our website in a few weeks.
Hi Erin, Almost any one is good for a beginner. They all have a very intuitive scale that you can play so it really is up to you, which scale you like best. Sadly, we can no longer get these drums. They are now only being sold directly from Kindred Spirit Steel Drums. If you want one of these, I am sure Brynn would be happy to help you out. We will be selling a new line of drums from a different maker and should have them online sometime in June 2022.
I know what you mean Angela. I wanted one and now we have a store full of them. Here is a link to see what we have in stock right now.niagarasingingbowls.com/collections/tongue-drums
I would't say playing with the hands is better, it is just a different way of playing. Neither one way is better than the other, just different, both can create beautiful tones. It is about what resonates with the player and the listeners, what is your preference. For beginners, the mallets help create a nice tone while they are learning how to get that clear bright tone with their hands.
Amazing like a museum collection, such a beautiful instrument
Thanks you so much all of them are amazing my favorites are Architech D Minor and F pigmy primordial series and the seed series. Well done!
What a lovely video, I learned a lot. Thank you
Glad you enjoyed it!
Awesome!!
Amazing how each is so different. I would love to have one as I’m needing to sell my baby grand.
That helios 2.0 sounded amazing
I agree. Brynn from Kindred Spirit drums has done a really nice job creating these. I love the resonance in them.

nice looking lady, and nice sounding drums.
its much better to play these drums with just your hands instead of using mallets .

I definitely prefer mallets!
