You gents better not stop producing this show in 2023. Better than Netflix, sizzling hot, love the banter, great insight, eyeballs on the tradition and the future, 11 out of 10. High five from Los Angeles ☑️
Breitling Cosmonaut, Sinn 140 for those who like space connection. But Speedy was born as a racing chrono. So Heuer Carrera reissue with Lemania 1873, essentially the same movement as the Omega 861/1861 is another great alternative.
I think the Bulova is a clear choice, as it's the only other one that has actually been to the moon. History would have it, the original Speedmaster, actually failed because the crystal popped off while in space & the Lunar Pilot was the back up. 👍 Fortis is always on the table as well. 😎
What about Fortis? They have the Classic and Official cosmonauts chronographs. They've been there (in space, e.g. ISS and EVAs) for years and thousands of orbits already. The history and achievements are amazing, the current management is very passionate, and their projects are interesting (Mars related). Not even going to mention the movements, their technical construction, design, etc...
@@shipmate3577 The Official cosmonauts chrono (the one I mentioned) is 3170 euro on their website. On the box of my watch (from 2006) it was 2000 euro. I don't understand what you mean by Tudor prices, the black bay chrono is around 5500 while the Tudor black bay is 3800. Even the more recent chrono models are below 4000 (e.g. the titanium special one is 3800). What would it be then a good price for this Fortis cosmonauts chrono? 2000? 1500? in your opinion. And yes, you do get an original design and a very high quality (I own an almost 20 years old watch) which keeps time as well as my Tudor BB58 without any parts replaced. Actually.. nevermind.. with the current perception on watches, hypes, marketing.. it's fine. :)
Adrian is being unfair to the Lunar Pilot here. It’s a great looking watch with a killer movement, a fascinating story and it’s affordable to boot. There’s a smaller version coming out in January 2023 too, finally. I own both a Speedy and the Bulova and I think they’re both terrific.
Great comments! I love the Speedy and had been considering the Bulova LP for a few years now...I'm pulling the trigger! Amazon has it on a nato for $291! 53% off! Love what you guys are doing. Keep it up!
I find this probably the hardest to find a true alternative to, because while most icons become so for a combination of history and design, I feel the Speedy Pro became an icon almost entirely on the back of its "moonwatch" history. Which is why of these three I'd probably go with the Bulova, especially as it's a value alternative, because I generally feel that (unless you want something unobtainable, such as Rolex) if you're shopping for an alternative to an icon at the same price point, why not just get the original? That said, if you are looking for something close to Speedy Pro status at around Speedy prices, the Breitling Navitimer seems the obvious choice to me. It's admittedly quite different, but I'd probably consider it the third most iconic chronograph of all time behind the Speedmaster and Daytona, that thanks to its aviation history is a better Speedy alternative than the Daytona.
Nobody talks about the skyWalker . When Space X returned NASA astronauts to the International space station aboard an American made rocket Doug the commander wore one and a lot of the current and future crop of astronauts have and will wear one. I bet you it’ll be the first watch back on the moon and maybe the first watch on mars. So to me, wearing something the current generation of pioneers and the next generation of hero’s will wear is pretty cool.
For me, Nivada Chronomaster. The originals are so cool, and though weren’t watches that went to space, they went to (and did) everything else. I own one of the new releases and it’s an awesome watch and scratched the itch for the FOIS Speedy I wanted.
I think Adrian was a little disrespectful, if you ask me....the Lunar Pilot is a really good watch. And a lot easier to read than the Omega. I love Omegas. I own 3. But when I looked at the Speedy, I found it underwhelming. The Lunar Pilot was more affordable and easier to read. Andrew was spot on! Period!
I’m with Adrian. The Speedy is a better looking watch. But objectively, Omega is the first watch worn on the moon. Bulova can’t claim that. Plus, it was only worn as a second choice, apparently under sketchy circumstances? Ps: the internet is full of conspiracies 😂
@@frederikaaxman1582 new 43mm Bulova moonwwatch in January. Polished. Looks amazing. Check out watch Chris who had a global exclusive on it few months back
George I always love your enthusiasm but how can a gold Zenith that’s twice as much as a Speedmaster Moonwatch be it’s alternative?! My vote for a Speedy alternative would be a Tudor Heritage Chrono blue🤔
There's something I can't put my finger on about the SMP aesthetically, I really love it, it's got almost nothing to do with the moon only that it passed NASA's tests and is therefore a highly competent and dependable watch, the others are all ok, a Sinn would have impressed, but if you want a Speedmaster there's no alternative in my view.
There is a hidden (... also to me) story behind the Bulova that is very interesting: An astronaut smuggles a non permitted object (every gram of weight taken to the moon costs a lot of money) into the rocket. Bulova develops a one-of watch as design copy of the moon watch in order to facilitate the smuggling. On the moon surface the astronaut is losing "by accident" the hesalit crystal on his OMEGA giving him the chance to use his Bulova instead. Was it patriotism or simply well paid corruption, trying to break the - at the time already heavy - moon marketing of OMEGA for what was than an American watch producer? The fraud was made public only many years afterwards (avoiding consequences for the cheaters) and OMEGA had to change their ads from "the first and only watch worn on the moon" to "the first watch worn on the moon".
Three blokes avoid the obvious: Sinn, Fortis, Breitling. But in fairness, Adrian got it right - the moon shiz is the marketing; the popularity is due to the exceptional design. The Speedy is THE chrono, as the Sub is THE diver, the Calatrava is THE dress watch and the Oyster summat THE daily... Not to say these are the 'best,' just the most iconic.
Bulova is definitely using marketing to sell a watch that was not mass produced like the speedmaster in the 60’s and 70’s. The current offering has a movement that didn’t exist and was not part of the prototype. That being said, the price point at which the watch retails is a steal, the finish quality is top level, and the accuracy of the movement is far superior than the Bell & Ross and the Omega, and requires little to no service cost aside from a battery every 3 to 4 years.
20 Years ago I looked at buying a speedy and instead opted for a Seamaster 300 Pierce Brosnan era because I felt it was better value (no regrets! I still have it). Yesterday I walked into an Omega AD and had a good close look at the new 3861 and again, I felt it was not THAT great of a watch (for the enormous asking price). This time they have fixed many issues I had with such as Chronometer, 2 marks between each second, bracelet and clasp to name a few (yes, yes, it is not true to the original bla bla I am ready to be flamed by purists, to whome I would say *cough* 321) but I feel as modern day watch costing >AU$10,000 (which in itself is a homage to the original “Moon Watch” strictly speaking) it has to have no flaws and I walked away from it thinking it is still a flawed watch (no quick adjustment on clasp) and there are still MUCH BETTER value watches out there for less than this money on my list of wants so I passed on it (even though the wife was there and actually said OK to the purchase!!). Yeah yeah so it went to the moon, big deal, a Tesla went to space, I wont want one of those either…
Nice guys. Just leave the talking to the blondines and let Adrien make shots of the watches (he does that well) and be silent. It would lift the channel to another level
Its just not an alternative! No way. The speedy is a stainless tool watch, that Zenith is gorgeous but gold and blingy; like comparing a 911 with a Veyron. There is no comparison! period. The speedmaster is the one but the Bell & Ross is a nice watch alternative for this who cant afford the 911, get a boxster!
What? An alternative is a watch that's never been to the moon? I guess zenith sponsored this video lol. There are hundreds of pictures of NASA astronauts wearing g shocks. In fact, at least two models are officially approved for space flight by NASA. This happened because the astronauts themselves petitioned NASA admin. Yes, they prefer the accuracy and functions of digital watches. Imagine that.
Go jump Captain EXTREMELY Boring! 🥱🖕🏻🤣 The Bulova is a stunning watch & that quartz movement, albeit a quartz is second to none in its accuracy! As I’d stated previously the Bulova is a great stepping stone to the Speedy. My Lunar Pilot sits proudly alongside my Omega Moon watch. Love the Zenith but the “AliExpress” Bell & Ross you can keep.😵💫
I have an intense and unique hatred for Bell&Ross. My least favorite brand of ALL TIME! Their only original idea was, "Square not circle". And since then, it's just one homage after another. People treat them like they're a legitimate brand, but everything sucks. Overpriced bullshit.
I don’t like the speed master…don’t care for the look. I do love the history of it and the story but I won’t pay that kinda money for a story. I just don’t think the speed master is good looking. My opinion….I’m prepared for the hate mail 😂
