AI is not the reason for the majority of these tech layoffs. High interest rates and over-hiring post covid are some important factors.

AI is not the major reason, but AI is also one of the reasons.
      Other reasons are:
      1. High interest rates
      2. Investments in robotics
      3. Economy downfall
      4. Huge debt
      5. USA is more focused on manufacturing!

    Long comment ahead:
I came to the US in 2021, finished an MS degree in ECE by specialising in HCI from the university of Washington in the June of 2023. I'm back in India since Dec'23 and I wasn't too sure about it initially but the struggle I went through with the job hunting, countless interviews, being ghosted, offer being rescinded, getting rejected because of being on a visa, roles getting cancelled were just a few things that ruined my sanity.
The only good side that i can think of the degree are:
    1. I got to sponsor my parents for their first ever international trip when they came to meet me for graduation even though i didn't have a job by the time of graduation.
    2. The degree being fully funded with a stipend so i didnt have to take a loan, and the savings from the stipend helped me sponsor the trip for my parents and also stay in the US for as much as i could after graduation.
    3. The actual degree ofc. Helped me get a job back in Bangalore when i moved back. The amount of things i learned in the field of HCI and research.
I'm probably the only one from my university in my batch across departments who actually came back to their home country because many are doing odd jobs or unpaid jobs to keep their work Authorization valid but tbh, I didn't think it was worth it. So it's a very probable situation about coming back to your home country and it isnt like how it was in 2015-2019.

True Parth, I have been in the US for 3 years now and feel the same way. Also, beyond just layoffs, the screwed up H1B program that jeopardizes one's future along with deterioration of law and order resulting in safety concerns in some american cities are big problems too. Having said that, I would rate US as "runway" that you can use to take off your career and finances (if things play out right) rather than the promised land it once used to be.

Parth brings up some good points. The job market in US especially tech is very volatile. Just last week Tesla laid off 20% of their work force. In the retail sector there is cost cutting. Its even diffcult to find legal part time jobs (in campus) since there are so many students competing for it. Many of my friends who went for masters in US are nearing their final semester and still couldnt land any internships. It's a shitshow for sure.

Hi Parth, I recently attended a career fair at my college where more than 250 companies participated. However, I found that only about 10 of these were software-related. Unfortunately, none of these software companies were offering internships. The majority of the companies present were from the civil, electrical, and management sectors. As someone aspiring to work in the data science field, I found it challenging to find relevant internship opportunities. It seems like finding an internship in the data science field is quite tough at the moment.

Hi, the comments seem pretty much considering the Computer Science field. Can you discuss about other fields of engineering? Maybe even areas except engineering. What I see from a lot of education abroad channels like yours or maybe Yudi J is that most of the content in videos is leaned towards Computer Science and coding etc. That is important considering the huge inflow of people and somewhat saturation in this field. So I would like if you could make dedicated videos to other fields of engineering as well like Electronics, Civil, Mechanical, Architectural etc. because a lot of people come for that as well and there is simply not enough "good" content for that. Thank you.

Guys can we just start looking at things as they’re, look US economy is struggling rn, even US citizens are paying extra bucks to get essentials because of the inflation. The Feds are no where close to another interest rate cut(only 1 this year). So the chances of job creation by tech companies are very low, as they will avoid big ventures, projects etc because of difficult loans.
Over that lakhs of foreign students entering the tech market, making the competition even intense. Now what makes you stand out in a crowd. “Skills”, but now instead of 100s, 1000s are competing for the few jobs in market.
In the end it’s you who can work on your Skills, no university big or small is going to do it for you, all the they get is 30k-50k from lakhs of students and fill their pockets.
And don’t you think there are enough resources online to learn, network?
Please stop falling for motivational speeches, saying “Your hard work is what matters in situations like these, things will fall in place” bro like for real? Consider other factors like the economy, market situation.

    As per my experience:
    - Even if you apply over 500- 1000 jobs, companies won't simply give you a call. The IT market is oversaturated. This will continue for the next few years at least.
    - Learing basic german is not enough, you would need C1, which becomes impossible for a 30+ Y.O individual.

The probability of not getting an H1B in all your three attempts (assuming you have 3 shots) is roughly 55 percent (based on the number of unique applicants this year). You spend over $100k on a degree that wont hold much value, while you could use that money to invest in real estate for a start, which could generate comparable returns and allow you to start leveraging your investments. I’m sorry, but it’s just not worth it. I say this as someone who has earned three degrees in Electrical and Computer Science from American universities, spending over $250k over 10 years. Especially with the upcoming AI era, I hope you won’t waste your money. If you think universities teach valuable skills, they don’t-at least not in engineering fields; I can’t speak for other disciplines. I learned almost everything from books, tinkering and the internet.

The major reason for layoffs are high interest rates. When interest rates are high companies don't take on new project and government policies also shift toward slowing economy. Interest rates will start falling in 2025 and market will most likely start getting much better.

This is like the most realistic video about the situation in the US. What you’re implying is like comparing oranges to apples! Dude, you are not competing with anybody in the US. People who came before you already have a seniority and can apply for senior roles because of the number of years in experience. Talent is important but experience is key. And layoffs are not based off of talent (which is the most ironic part because you could be a stellar performer and still be let go). He is really trying to help you out, buddy.
And IDK Parth has always been a genuine TH-camr from his time at Purdue (I went to Purdue too, Boiler up!), so I guess it’s like your choice now 😊

A small house in the outskirts of Toronto is costing around 1M which is insane. So buying a home is tuff ,
You get inhand of around 6 K after tax , give away 3 K to rent , Groceries and Car insurance and all other stuff takes out 1K. You end up with 2 K in account. That is no good for anything
