DC Made Batman A Black Man...

Future State introduced the concept of an alternate DC Comics timeline where key members of the Justice League, such as Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, and Green Lantern, are replaced by a new generation of heroes. The new trinity consisted of Jonathan Kent as Superman, Yara Flor as Wonder Woman, and, most notably, Tim/Jace Fox as Batman. Jace Fox taking up the mantle of Batman caused some controversy due to the absence of other Bat-Family characters like Nightwing, Red Hood, Tim Drake, or Damian Wayne taking over after Bruce Wayne. DC 5G was an initiative to have newly established characters become the central focus of the DCU, putting the original heroes to the side.

@BrandontheAwesome Miles kinda makes more sense given that Peter has always felt that there could be multiple people with the mantle. Not only that, but Stan Lee's entire idea of Spiderman is that anyone can be behind that mask.
Miles is a Spiderman, however it works better because he has a similar power set to Peter.
@@shirothr5384 Wrong, wrong, wrong.
Peter has never felt that there could be multiple people with the mantle. Quite the opposite, in fact.
Misconception. That is taken out of context. Stan was talking about the brilliance of Spider-Man's costume, how it covers every inch of his body so any kid could easily see themselves as Spider-Man.
Miles is not a Spider-Man, he's a ripoff. It does not work better because he is a carbon copy of Peter, minus anything that made Peter interesting and likable.
Hand over your fan status. You're done.
@BrandontheAwesome my god you sound like a dork. Peter literally gave up being spidey to give it to Ben, let Kaine run rampant, didn't press Spider Girl ( Anya ) or Ghost Spider. How is Miles a " copy " of Peter lmao. Diff costume, diff powers, different relationship to his supporting cast

I've always thought that changing an existing character's color or sex is just a cheap excuse to not make or use original characters of that color or sex, the worst thing is that these characters can work well but they only choose to squeeze the baticow to get a little more money out of it
But they didn't change his color. They had someone else take the role. Changing the color or sex would be making BRUCE black or a female.
@@TheShockVox It's still absurd, if you want a Batman that is colored and isn't Bruce you have Batwing out there, it's not exactly the same but you can give it its own relevance and history, in addition to hanging on to the fame of a well-known superhero in a more discreet way
It's not that bad, but it's still garbage
Yeah the total laziness of not just making new characters is shameful or would be if these people had any shame.
The only thing nearly as lazy is bringing back the multiverse and just using it to make dozens of different versions of the same characters who happen to be different genders and races.

Duke is right there! He was trained by Batman and is part of the Bat family. If you showed a future version of Batman and he's black because Duke took up the mantle, people would be like "yeah that makes sense". They could have easily have it written that most of the Bat family was arrested and Duke was the only one who remained.

When the rumor that the Batman for 5G was going to be a black guy, I said, “No way, it’s gonna be Luke Fox! That should be dope!” And my mind ran through a bunch of ideas of how they could have Tim be his Robin, and Barbara as his Batgirl/Oracle, and have the three of them working together as a much more tech-based Bat trio, while also using Wayne Enterprises to help Gotham. It sounded good to me, and you could explain it by saying Bruce took Damian to go travel abroad and train for a bit, and that’s why Luke took over as Batman, and Tim became Robin again. I still think Luke as a superhero should go by the name Gargoyle, but maybe one day. Either way… they greatly shit the bed with that one.

I think Jace could work better if he was INSPIRED by Batman and decides to be his own hero, with no Bat theming at all, in Brooklyn and be its protector. Also personally I think the title of Batman successor belongs to Terry, but Damian, Tim, or Cass can be good alternatives.
@@woodman3926 If you ask me, no one should take up the mantle of Batman, due to the pain, suffering, and tragedy one endures when wearing the cowl.
Batman was born from tragedy, and while he rose and helped others, he denied himself happiness and help himself.

@@BrandontheAwesome Well nobody asked
@@BrandontheAwesomeThis is why Cass is my favorite pick for a successor- In her original Batgirl run, she redefines Batman as an ideal to strive for. Damian may want to be Batman unlike Dick, but he wants it because it’s his “birthright.” Cass wants it because of what it represents.
@@ellieporter3270 I can see that. But the way I see it, Batman wouldn't want anyone to be his successor. He wouldn't want someone to go through the same torture and torment that he did. Batman is the result of an act of violence, of a tragedy. Bruce denies himself happiness not because he wants to, but because deep down he knows that a happy life isn't that likely for him. The constant worrying if one of his villains uses his loved one against him, the burden that loved one would have to carry knowing that he most likely won't come back one night, deep down he denies himself happiness so that others can be happy. Batman should forever be 35 years old.
Oh, I thought this video was going to be about that short-lived comic series that Stan Lee wrote for DC called "Just Imagine," where he did make Batman a black guy. Granted, that was decades ago...
I honestly don’t know why DC keep on doing things like this. It’s either they race swap the characters or they replace the characters randomly that feels forced. They already made good black characters like Jon Stewart Green Lantern, Vixen, Steel, Bronze Tiger, Static Shock yet they underutilize them and choose a more lazy and controversial route. It’s baffling honesty.
I can't think of many other race swaps that DC has done but I'm not surprised about the mantle changes its sort of their bread and butter and they've done it to huge success with characters like Wally West, Kyle Rayner and Jamie Reyes. The only problem is that once these characters are fully established and loved as the premier versions of the character DC almost immediately side line them and bring back their predecessors.

Not to say it hasn't worked before. Miles Morales is essentially a black version of Peter Parker, but he was different in a enough in a way that made him a unique character that made him stand out against Peter, but still made him a great Spider-Man. But he's the exception, not the rule.

@@huntertezz my point is that had nothing to do with Jace. Jon was already aged up and no longer a Super Son before Jace was even a concept. The two had nothing to do with on another. And yes Jace and Jon were going to be on the new version of the Justice League but they were pushing Yara and Jon as a duo, not Jace and Jon.
@@marvelprince No the age up didn't change his superson status.
Jace was replacement for Damian who then originally wanted to be the big villain for their league
@@huntertezz you keep repeating yourself without addressing the facts I’m presenting you with. It’s literally right there on google. Jon got aged up in Bendis’s Superman, THEN Supersons ended. Tomasi had already gone on record to say Super Sons was done cause Bendis wanted to do something different with Jon (which was to make him Superman of the Legion). You can literally google why did Super Sons end and it will tell you it was cause of Bendis’s plans for Jon. Jace wasn’t created till months after and was never paired with Jon. They literally had one interaction in Dark Crisis. During Future State Jace and Jon never even had a one on one team up, that was always Jon and Yara. The only thing right you said was that Damian was intended to be the big bad of Future State. It’s weird how you’re so intent to hate this character for something that didn’t involve him to the point that you’re willingly ignoring the timeline and author statements.

So a push for Fox being Batman would be a stretch and unnecessary to me. Crazy part is i dont read Batman and realized this😅
For anyone who read about Dan Didio about wokeness in comics may I add that he was apart of the problem with DC. Not to mention he hired people like Tom King and Bendis who started to run DC to the ground with their political BS.

Why not make Jace a new version of “Bloodsport.” But instead of being evil, make him an anti-hero like Jason Todd. Have Batman team him up with Todd to mentor or watch over him. That dynamic would be dope.
Creo que bloodsport es más un antihéroe
Because...Bloodsport is a Superman villain who (at the time Jace was created (both in his original appearance in 1979 and his appearance as Batman in 2021) no one gaf about. ALSO: A character being a different race than their predecessor doesn't mean they can't share the same mantle, goofballs.

@@mohamedaljassmy Same with a lot of other heroes.

They don't get that. Bruce Wayne is Batman because the deaths of his parents triggered a response unusual to any other person. He lived and trained abroad for a decade, is a genius polymath, and has an unforeseen level of willpower. You can't copy and paste that
Jace Fox works just fine if he's from an alternative earth *coughMrRadtastics'sEarth23cough* but as far as someone taking up the mantle, it's like you said: That only works if Bruce is MIA, dead, or physically unable to do it anymore. Dick, Damian, Cassandra, Tim, and Terry are all viable choices. Although, it never seems to end well for Tim when he puts on the cowl, so maybe just go with Terry.
Years ago they had a Batwoman comic that was good and she was not tied to the family.

I actually love the idea of several Batmen being active at once, but after Bruce's retirement. Obviously, Cassandra is the only one who could be the main Batman in Gotham after Bruce stops, but I actually love Jace as Batman in New York (or just another city, like Blüdhaven), and then Dick would be Batman on the Justice League, and Damian could be an international Batman who travels around the world in a Batman Incorporated-style manner. But I agree that it's kind of weird to have Jace be Batman at the same time as Bruce, especially when he's the only other Batman.

I can at least say that suit is lookin drippy..
I can't stand the blatant pandering from dc and marvel. Like we want black characters in comics but we don't need a black batman. It feels so forced and the only thing it does is put a bigger target on black people's back.
Honestly, I like the faceplate look on the Batman suit. Never made sense to be how Bruce covered everything but his mouth. I hope the Jace Fox Batsuit will be in a future Batman game. That suit would've been hard asf in Arkham Knight.
Gotham crime skyrockets beyond usual metrics
I do remember reading a fanfic elseworld tale where the Wayne family were African American and, although it was very similar still to the original, was actually written well and makes his race an interesting change storywise. Just shows this could work if they didn't try to replace the trinity.
Idk why’d they choose fox over Damien. Like Damien is the sole future Batman aside from terry. Jace could become kind of like dc daredevil or something like that
That bit about “why would you have this dude take the name of Batman while Batman is still around? It’s dumb to have 2 Batmen” really made me think… this whole thing is to make DC have a Miles Morales.
Miles and Peter co-existing is becoming more normalized, Spiderverse animated movies are great, DC Executives want a piece of that, so they’re dipping their toes in the water too.
It’s not like Miles was a close friend of Peter’s before he took the name up either anyway, so they saw no problem with it..
I think they tried something similar to Miles Morales where two people use name Spider-man. And Sam Wilson Captain America, Kitana Daredevil, Kate Bishop Hawkeye.
The one positive I will give to Jace Fox is at least they put him in a different city with a chance of getting his own villains. Cause that’s the problem with every hero you listed, they occupy the same city as the hero their named after or are on the same team, and fight the same villains as their original which just adds more to them feeling like knockoffs rather than their own character
And Laura Wolverine.
There is no problem with Batman being black. But why Jace? Why use this random gang member from Pre-Crisis comics. Luke Fox is right there and would be a better choice (y'know, if they gave Luke any actually important stories). Future State in general is weird to me because the whole idea was setting up the new generation of Justice Leaguers with the bulk of the story taking place 5 to 20 years into the future of DC Comics. The problem comes in due to them blatantly ignoring other characters that are commonly ignored. You want a Batman from 20 years in the future? How about bringing back Helena Wayne. You want a Wonder Woman from 20 years in the future? How about bringing back a version of Lyta, maybe have it be Ares and Circe's daughter. You want a Flash from 20 years in the future? Irey West. There's all these characters you don't use, at least not often but instead you create entirely new ones?
I also think the Batman Future State comic had some good ideas, taking place in a dystopic cyberpunk techno-cityscape version of Gotham City, similar in some ways to Batman Beyond. But the city has also been turned into a police state which feels so fitting for a place like Gotham. Seeing a new Batman navigate this type of dystopian future for Gotham, equally trying to stop the crime in Gotham and the corrupt system would be really cool and I think there's some cool stuff already in the comic, but them using a completely separate character in a family of heroes so large people have literally complained about how large it is just feels weird to me.
I also don't think it's wrong that none of the Robins become Batman. Dick never wanted to be Batman, he became Batman after realizing Gotham needed a Batman, but he never wanted that mantle. Jason isn't Batman, he's trying to be the Batman he believes Bruce should've been which means not being Batman. Tim doesn't want to be Batman, especially after seeing so many alternate future versions of him turn evil. Finally, Damian does actually want to be Batman, but I feel like it makes more sense for his character to become more of his own thing instead of being Batman. Honestly, if anyone is going to be Future Batman, it would be Cassandra Cain or Helena Wayne. Cassandra wants to be Batman, that has been what motivated her throughout a ton of her series, that want to be like Batman. Helena Wayne already was Batman in the Earth 2 comics and it fits her perfectly as the daughter of Bruce and Selina. Of course, there's also Terry McGinnis who is cool but I don't think he should ever be the future Batman in mainline comics, he should stay in his own alternate timeline.
iirc Jace was brought in to screw over the writers/whatever for Luke because he wanted Jace entirely to be his own project/creation or something along those lines.
I tried finding the original source again but mostly all that comes up is character wikis. It was over something petty though like not wanting to give over rights or using someone else's character, etc
The irony that they can't stop adding memebers to the Batfamily, in the comics and the live action movies don't add any. It's always just lone wolf Batman.

since I'm first lemme jus say i love yo vids twin keep up da grind!
Honestly I see the fun in the idea it’s creative route that many may not like but is also interesting to see play out
Na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-BLACKMAN!
I actually dont mind them changing batman, i feel like eventually we have to push these things forward. I think fans need to let things evolve. If DC gon do it they need to just do it all the way
I am vengeance, I am the night, I am Batnigga
...Is that Avatar Roku as Alfred!?
There was no point in introducing another black superhero when they could have focused on any number of black heroes they already had at DC comics.
This is what happened when Bruce Wayne took a vacation to Wakanda!!!
So what I'm gathering is, people wont accept Tim Fox until it's been 10-20 years, just like how Terry was a brand new character and people didnt ask for him... Odd.
Also another point is you forgot about Batman inc and how many Batmen there are across the world...
Nah I'm pretty sure Jace is just going to dissappear. Unlike Terry he really didn't catch on
Terry was only in the dcau as a cartoon, they didn't try to make him the main batman in the comics like they tried with jace.
@@sdcard7129alright then, name me an original hero from that organization then (cass and Jason don't count.)
@@abiodunsulaiman2297 Batman of China ( Jiro ), Black Mist, Blue Falcon, Chiefman, Dark Ranger, Gauncho, Halo, I could say more but you dont read those comics, do you?
I kinda like DC Future State but it mostly because of seeing my favorite characters ageing and progressing through life rather than any new characters.
Wasn't Jace also the product of Lucious having an affair with another woman?
There actually was a point to making Future State Batman Tim "Jace" Fox, someone no one knew anything about. Namely so that they could have Nightwing, Red Hood, etc. decide to go after him when he was framed for a crime. Obviously if they knew the new Batman they would be able to find out if he was innocent before things got out of hand.
Not arguing that this was a good creative decision or not. It's honestly been a trend with DC since they've hired Geoff Johns. Let's take this old character everyone forgot about, bring him back so much edgier that he's unrecognizable, and have the characters who've stuck around utterly confused about what the hell happened while they weren't looking. But good or bad, there was a rationality behind it.
Ah, the old Miles Morales treatment. As if that ever works... oh wait, it doesn't.
Another failed attempt to replace what already works.
what are you talking about?
I'll give them a teeny tiny amount of credit though, at least there wasn't anything quite as bad as "BY ODIN'S FADE!"
My guy, Morales fanboys are coming😂
@@tone2812 You know damn well what I'm talking about.
@@kielbasamage I dunno, I can think of few...
So this video was made by either Frieza, Uncle Ruckus, or Geto huh
