So the one thing you did not talk about that had me curious, the job advancement quest/bahamut's rat tail quest. How do the new jobs factor in there? do they all have advanced versions now? Lancer = drg? Blue mage = blue wizard?
FF1 and Dragon Warrior 4 were my first RPGs ever (played both around the same time with my father), as in I learned to read playing these when I was about 5 or 6 with my Dad. FF1 is my favorite in the series for this, and I am stoked to give this a try as I love how they brought in most of the FF14 jobs into the game. (Come on Gunbreaker and Viper!)
When I heard of it, it was what I was doing for the next week! First team was Dark Knight, Green Mage, Time Mage, and Caller, and the Time Mage was just ridiculously fun XD
Looks interesting. However before i play it I want to finish going through the Pixel Remasters and try out a few more parties in one or more of the official versions. (While I love FF1, I've only played through it a few times.)
1:15 could you explain this, I cannot find it on steam and the official website has no info about steam. If your just talking about adding it to steam as a non-steam game that's different then adding it to your steam account as you suggest.
Man, crazy that I found this channel, we are like doppelgangers of each other, my name is also David, I am about the same age as you, I also love old school RPGs, especially of the final fantasy variety, I am definitely going to check this out, thanks!
I initially played it on my laptop for two weeks because it was too good to put down long enough to figure out how to get in working on the Steam Deck. Now that I have it on the Steam Deck I won't go back! It's great!
This is interesting and it's my first time hearing about it, although I'm on the fence with including the Blue Mage in my party if I play this after seeing this video, as you pointed out that he basically only casts variations of fire and ice spells. I'm thinking I'll go Dark Knight, Thief (for his new abilities), one of the magi, and Bard if I end up playing this. Also, I was around the same age when FF came out. In 1990 I would have been turning 9 at some point that year. Dragon Warrior was my first RPG but I loved FF just as much.
I'm playing through this for the 3rd time and it's amazing. I'm in the same boat, I was turning 10 in 1990 and have played this since it came out andso many times with so many parties over the years. I played all the remakes and they were generally too easy due to the changes and I always just wanted a bug fixed version, but to get one with new jobs.......I'd have never dared to hope for something like that.
I have put so much time in this. I had to back up saves to make additional parties and the new jobs are excellent. I expected them to be half baked but they're really good. I'm looking forward to see what additional jobs he adds in future releases.
You mentioned there were some bugfixes, but didn't mention what kind of bugfixes in the video. I'd just like to know if the Intelligence stat and running away actually works like it was supposed to in this game now.
Yes and Lock and Crits and I forget all what all else off the top of my head at the moment, basically everything that was bugged in the original, works as originally intended, enemies have different classes and related weaknesses to weapons.
I’ve only played the FF origins and Pixel Remaster version of I. This looks amazing for someone like myself who wants that classic NES charm with some modern changes
Just discovered your channel. Watched a few videos. Subbing. Good stuff. Looks like we are around the same age, so have the same history with FF games.
Just an FYI, while talking about the bard, your vid showed the red mage info. No biggie! My buddy has been playing this and he told me each character has special abilities if you make them your main avatar. For example, the thief can locate secret hidden treasure chests in towns and dungeons by walking over certain squares. I think the dark knight (batman) can eat special bats in certain dungeons to boost his power.
I wonder if anyone can revive aside from white wizard still. One of the most annoying things is getting hit with an instant death attack, then having to scramble out of the dungeon to get a revive in the nearest town, or having to finish the dungeon with 3 or 2 members. It would be nice to have more options for dealing with that without having to have a white mage only.
That looks sweet as hell! I especially like that, going by appearances, they kept the spell charge system. Every version of FF1 with an MP system is stupidly easy.
David, do you remember in the mid 2000s, some fans worked on Chrono Resurrection and got a long ways into it before Square sent them a cease and desist letter?
Thank you for sharing! Final Fantasy is a comfort game for me just like Dragon Quest, Super Mario RPG and Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure. I´ll try this, looks promising.

Why do people keep saying "they should hire him" everytime something like this comes out? They won't. Not only are they not legally able to solict jobs from fans, but it's very clear Japanese companies do not respect fan-games, mods, hacks or any of that scene. They think of them exclusively as thieves and people breaking the law by stealing their IP, and more than that, they feel that their own handpicked teams within the industry are more than sufficient. And, many of the creators in the industry do respect the fan communities even if they have no control over what the corporate side of things chooses to do. No matter what the laws may say, corporations aren't people, but the individual people in the companies still are people, and sometimes they do get a say that translates to hiring on fans (I mean, if hiring fans was literally illegal like you infer, the companies would just die as the original creators do... plenty of people involved in making modern Final Fantasy weren't even born when the first one came out). But, yeah, no, I really do NOT want the creator of Final Fantasy Renaissance to be hired by SquareEnix. I have much more interest in seeing what he does as an indie dev working on his own original projects going forward. His interest in retro video gaming would be wasted on the modern AAA landscape. He's already shown he can blow Final Fantasy 1's Pixel Remaster out of the water.

Okay, I thought there was some accidental gaslighting there. Never really paid attention to distribution by location in my playthrough (or I did but have forgotten it, since it was my first run nearly a year ago), but given that "finding the dimensional rifts in towns" was mentioned in this video, I guess that means there's one town and one dungeon rift per spell level, and Davidvinc's run just never had the Evoker in the lead during dungeon exploration?
The Evoker is able to get 2 summon spells per each line, besides that great review, I made 4 saves to try every configuration, when you beat the game, there is a New Game +
1:30 thanks for bringing this up- I tried downloading without going to discord and it just sat frozen on the loading screen for twenty minutes before I eventually gave up. I’ll try this!
Even when installed properly it does take a good while to load (one might think something is wrong). However, I gather this is just how Unity works (the entire game has to load up front). Now, it doesn't take more than a minute or two, but it took long enough for me to wonder if I did something wrong. @davidvinc I'm sorry, I left the comment before I watched the video! I saw someone else mention this game and as a huge Final Fantasy 1-9 fan, I'd really like to play it
@@ralphiecifaretto8961 you can download it and then hook it into your Steam. That’s what I did. I hope you enjoy it!
@davidvinc Thanks man! I appreciate your enthusiasm for old school RPGs! I'm going to carve out time for this in the near future, that's for sure!
Bro where did you get your shirt!?!?!? I need one!
They should make it multi player and continually add to the story line.
Now that would be awsome.
I feel like I could take on the entire game with a party consisting of 4 shredded Davids wearing Final Fantasy tanks.
So...do none of the new job classes evolve like the original 6?
The new classes promote like the original classes do (after the same quest/event).
@@roberth1723 Cool! Where can I find a list of what they promote to?
