    Final Fantasy Tactics is an absolute masterpiece.....every aspect of this game is truly art.
    I cannot emphasize enough how much I believe FFT to be the perfect example of RPG greatness.

      Some slight balancing issues aside, the only thing it needs is full voice acting instead of only in cut scenes, and a fix to the framerates, plus online multiplayer. It would be absolutely perfect then, but it's darn close already.

      I agree. Tactics Ogre and Final Fantasy Tactics are for me in my top 10 games ever made, and I tend to favor Western CRPGs over JRPGs. They are among the ultra rare category of video games that I consider to be works of high art, in the same narrative and audiovisual category as Dark Souls, and Wizardry 7. The stories of Ramza and of Denam are unforgettable and had major influences on me as a teenager when they were new on the first Playstation. My feelings go back and forth over the years about which of the two I think is the best, but ultimately I think I would say Tactics Ogre is my favorite, because unlike most other games that have multiple endings, that game has multiple narrative paths with a remarkable amount of exclusive content. The PSP remake of it is the only game I ever played for which I actually maintained multiple spreadsheets throughout my playthrough and ensured that I got every secret unlocked, every unique drop, every recruitable character (even resorting to the infamous "death march" to get Cressida), etc. But when I think of the ending scene of Final Fantasy Tactics, or the things Ramza witnesses as he goes through the story, it makes it very difficult to pick one!

      @@VulpasIt doesn't really need voices but of course that would be a nice addition, for such a recent remaster/remake that is being done in a time when it's a trend to add voices to games that didn't have any voices originally.

    To this day Final Fantasy Tactics still is one of my favorite games ever made. The politic intricacies and more somber narrative is signature of Matsuno's style; he really injected a lot of that "humans are the real monsters" narrative that Tactics Ogre is known for, and did so masterfully. Everything he learned in the Ogre series was translated exceptionally well to Tactics, which still has, to this day, my favorite Job System in the franchise. And Akihiko Yoshida providing the character designs truly cemented Final Fantasy Tactics as a truly unique game.

      So many people seem to hate the PSP translation, so it makes me happy to know that others appreciated it! I've heard complaints about it, such as "people don't talk like that in real life", which to me is astonishing. The game is from the outset portrayed as being told from the perspective of a written work of narrative history, one that is based on an earlier and long-lost manuscript, reflecting such instances as in the style of a medieval epic like Le Morte d'Arthur, Parzival or Orlando Furioso each of which is based on unfinished or earlier versions, themselves based on much older lyrical and oral history. The PSP version translation lends the game a Shakespearian quality that greatly enhances the experience of the narrative in my opinion.

    Final Fantasy Tactics is a game that I used to play through every year. I wish I could have the same passion for the Tactics Advance games, but they just play way too slowly just due to how they were optimized and developed for their platform. Final Fantasy Tactics always felt snappy and responsive in it's controls and menus, and as an adult I can't be having time leached away from me like this every time I open a menu.
    I'm still playing Tactics Ogre Reborn in the end game fusing relics and thinking out good Cursed weapons, beating the super bosses, etc. So I'm hoping Tactics Remastered will be something special, hopefully with more content and rebalancing, and not just a slightly touched up War of the Lions. I'm taking the radio silence as them keeping their nose down and focusing on their game.

      I wish so badly that TO and FFT were able to become true franchises. That was attempted in the GBA gen but the plan didn't go far, and it was abandoned. Then both games just got PSP versions and that's it. I don't mean direction continuation of the stories but different stories, like it's common in the whole genre.
      To me that's among of the biggest tragedies in jrpg history, because no other subgenre got through a similar situation. TO is the most revolutionary srpg. (Since to me it makes no sense saying it's Fire Emblem, that is the origin of the subgenre) TO in the snes completely surpassed the standards set by early FE and derivative rivals like Shining Force. Yet FE became a success in Japan since the snes, and global since the gba... and got than 10 games not counting remakes. But TO never took off despite the fame and influence.
      And the tragic plot only escalated as the famous srpgs that shaped the image of the genre in the 90s in Japan started dieing or decaying over the 00s... Shining Force, Front Mission, TO and FFT. And that was happening at the same period of FE's global breakthrough, which got even stronger in the 3ds gen. And none of that managed to encourage Sega and Square to change their minds and try their srpgs again. They gave up too fast and too easily, though they have gems in their hands.
      So nowadays the genre is solely carried by FE in terms of classic franchises. And the fact is that all those other glorious classic franchises could totally still be around. Their companies never closed or something, they just refuse to work on them again. And personally I don't think the current initiative of remakes/remasters of FM, TO and FFT changes the situation dramatically... because it's just the same old games. Only FE keeps on going with sequels and all.

      3d has important advantages for FFT, because the maps have many obstacles to our view, sometimes in many angles... unlike games like Fire Emblem. Also I imagine that the old maps in modern 3d graphics would make the objects of those complex maps stand out even more, resulting in more problems of blocking our view. Especially natural space: trees, bushes, branches, etc. So if the game is fully 3d it's possible to add more options of rotation and zoom, that fixes those viewing problems.

    • @carlosaugusto9821
      @carlosaugusto9821 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@trymv1578I wonder if it's taking too long to even announce because it's going to be a full graphics remake. Like the stages in modern "cartoony" 3d quality, with more options of rotation and zooming, and the characters in 3d to finally move properly with the stage. Today it's possible to make 3d models look close to sprites. And I can imagine that Matsuno is demanding on the visual quality. Since all story cutscenes happen in "gameplay" graphics, sometimes exclusive backgrounds, I can imagine it takes some time to make, even if its not a very high standards (AAA) project.
      Edit: I just remembered to mention two things: first the 3d cutscenes. Maybe there will be a few more 3d cutscenes in the same style of those of the PSP version? That can add a bit more of workload. And secondly: voice acting, that the TO remaster had. Maybe the game will be fully voiced? That also can add a little bit to workload, and can explain the total lack of news about a "simple" new version of a PS1 trpg.

    Back in the days of Final Fantasy Tactics, the Math Skill Holy emerged as an overwhelmingly overpowered force on my screen. The strategic finesse of deploying five adept female wizards, boosted by MATK UP and concealed in Chameleon Robes, resulted in a game-altering imbalance that diminished the challenges, leaving me somewhat disgruntled with the lack of difficulty.

    Tactics was hands-down my favorite Final Fantasy. Ive gone back to play the other Final Fantasy's many times, but not nearly as much as Tactics. I go back to it at least every 2 years now since its release. The gameplay, plots, and lore behind it all was impeccably brilliant. I cant give it the justice it deserves in words. The story swept me away when I first played and I love going back for replays (which it has tons of replay value as well. Something other Final Fantasy's have as well but Tactics has on a much larger scale.) Just because its not a numbered Final Fantasy I feel like sometimes it is overshadowed as a spin off title. But it holds a grand tale that rivals that of any Final Fantasy, in my opinion. If you have never played it, I envy you because it is such a treat to experience it for the first time. If they remade it I would play the hell out of it.

      War of the Lions really was great upgrade to the original, but I did not enjoy playing it on PSP. I didn't find the system comfortable to handle as handhelds go, and of course you have to deal with glare on a tiny screen. Worst of all, the load times were unbearable. The game would have to load every time you cast a freaking SPELL! Ridiculous. The game deserves better. 100% will rebuy War of the Lions if they port it to PC. In the meantime, uh... I guess I can use my PC to emulate the PSP version? Not really the ideal outcome, but it works better than anything Square Enix is currently willing to sell me.

      The problem is that it's feels too late now to take it further. Square completely lacked vision to turn FFT into a long and profilic franchise. And it totally had the potential for that. After all a FFT franchise doesn't need to be locked to the actual game's plot, just like most rpg franchises don't revolve around a single plot and a single world, but in fact tend to refresh the plot and even the world in most sequels. And direct sequels or prequels are the exception.
      Now Matsuno is old and probably even more depressed than he already was in the 90s... and to be honest I even wonder if he has the drive and ambition to write completely fresh stories that have a similar power to that of FFT.
      This is what we are talking about: making new things that remind of the energy of FFT. Otherwise, making simple things just as an excuse to keep using the tactics gameplay in new games was already tried before, in the Advance games, which didn't get far. So that's why I think It's too late unfortunately. Trying to match such a masterpiece is extremely challenging.
      After FFT and maybe FF12 (it isn't totally his game though) Matsuno stopped pushing himself like other great geniuses of gaming but who managed whole franchises and kept growing with it. So I get the feeling that he isn't in a good shape creatively now, because of the lack of the stimulation of ambitious projects. Square just never realized how to use his abilities the best way possible after FFT. But I believe he could totally have been like the Hideo Kojima of srpgs, and made FFT the icon franchise of the genre instead of Fire Emblem (that I don't hate but don't think it deserves its existing status).

      I wish so badly that Square that the vision to turn FFT in a true franchise. Of course not being a story continuation of FFT but completely different plots, like it's common in the genre. Matsuno made a tremendous revolution in srpg history with Tactics Ogre and FFT, and its very sad the company didn't realize a direction to take after that. FFT, if it was a successful franchise with great sequels in the same quality of the first one, was the deserving franchise to lead the srpg genre, and not Fire Emblem imo.
      Even though the FFTA games failed to be worthy successors, the company could continue trying. That is just another case of those tragic misunderstandings in gaming history where a company makes an "odd" or straight up weird sequel to a successful game, and it gets naturally criticised, and then the company brilliantly concludes that people don't like the game anymore and just bury it. Instead of trying another concept for a sequel.

    6:10 That's a gross understatement. War of the Lions's frame rate would slow to a horrific crawl the moment any foreground effect (read: used for virtually all spells and most abilities) was rendered. We're talking drops into single digit frame rates at the worst of it, with most of the Summoner job's spells practically creating an impromptu bathroom break every time they were cast.

    There are quite a few things I want from a FFT remaster, but I think the most important changes I'd want to see is the game receiving the same treatment given to Tactics Ogre (updated sprites, voice acting, additional post-game events) and online multiplayer.
    It'd be nice to see some class restructuring (like skill changes for archer and Dragoon) as well but I'm fine with the final product meeting the minimum criteria of a "remaster"

    • @SolstaceWinters
      @SolstaceWinters ปีที่แล้ว

      Online multiplayer is a MUST, or I riot. Having access to FFT again is a godsend, but it would DEFINITELY be soured if we could do Rendezvous mode... I never even got to do it the first time around on the PSP version. Heard about it, read about it, was _sad_ about it - because I never got to do it with anyone.

    • @carlosaugusto9821
      @carlosaugusto9821 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      About core gameplay, for this scope of project that doesn't seem to be as simple as the PSP versions (simply because it should have been already done if it was the case) I think the devs should be more serious with the balance of abilities, in parameters and points, and maybe add new abilities for the lacking jobs. Also I think the random battles should have a bigger variety because they are boring. Also I wish there is more weather variation and evening and night battles.
      About minor elements, I think it would be nice to add more equipment (not a lot but still more), rework the pub side missions to make them more interesting, and add new side quests. And maybe tone down the Wiegraf battles and the Elmdor battles (not their Lucavi forms).

    • @carlosaugusto9821
      @carlosaugusto9821 ปีที่แล้ว

      And about quality of life features, I think the game could get an easy and two harder difficulties. And speed up abilities animations with a button. And rework the interfaces of party editing and battle, so they are more practical and accessible to a newbie. And add a visual icon to show zodiac compatibility in the battle window (like Fire Emblem shows the effective weapon in the battle window). And lastly totally rework the tutorial (that is even joked about) so it's more efficient and effective to teach a newbie. Maybe the current old Matsuno has a new mindset and can be more considerate to the newbie.
      About purely graphical aspects, I've been wondering if it would be nice if abilities leave a temporary effect on the stages. Like if the Monk's Earth Slash is used, it leaves a temporary mark on the ground that slowly disappear after a few turns. And explosions, fire, etc make temporary marks on the ground the same way.

    • @omegaXjammur
      @omegaXjammur ปีที่แล้ว

      @@carlosaugusto9821 A few of the QoL features you mentioned were given to Tactics Ogre last year, so I would hope FFT gets treated the same way. Visual changes to the battlefield after using certain skills does sound dope though. I just don't know if the devs would willing to work that feature in (w/o causing bugs and/or adding a new mechanic).
      As far as difficulty goes, I think there should be an easy mode and a normal mode with level scaling/locking. Maybe a hard mode where reinforcements come in mid-battle. As long as I don't have to 1v1 Weigraf in chapter 1.

    • @omegaXjammur

    Ever since I learned of the project I started thinking about it, being a huge fan, but I never made up my mind about whether it should keep sprites and only update the stages graphics, or make everything 3d... and ideally use a cel shading tech to imitate the sprites look.
    On one hand the sprites are still excellent to today standard (no nostalgia bias at all, if you think hard and coldly about it) and would make the project less costly there's a lot of cutscenes using those sprites. And on the other hand, well done 3d can look good today and it would make the characters move correctly according to the stage rotation, zooms, etc. If it's 3d that would also give it a chance of gaining new options of zoom and rotation. The maps have some issues with objects blocking your view, sometimes even in different angles.

    I also don't really think Cid is that unbalanced. I did a playthrough last year and found that just using regular classes still feels broken without too much effort (I had a team of like two ninjas, a knight, a calculator, and a dark knight).
